RAWR
greetings from Dimsumland!!!
tis gonna be a short one cos after i post them i’m going to go back to bed and mope. and mope and mope some more. why, you ask?
COS I’M SICK AS A DOG AND HAVE BEEN SINCE THE MOMENT I TOUCHED DOWN IN HK!!!
it started off with sniffles and a very red nose. fine, that i can take, seeing how the weather here is like 11 degrees anyway. so a runny nose should totally be expected. i accept that. i’ve got tissues. no problem.
but then i had to get a fever. a high one.
and then i had to get an eye infection!!!!! which hurts me like crazy everytime i blink. (tze ching, it’s exactly the same problem you had the last time!!! what did you do to cure it?! got 24hr cure or not!?) grr. my right eye is stinging like mad even as i write this now, but i will go on bullying it with the laptop’s flourescent screen because i am one vindictive bitch.
oh wait who said i was done. did i mention the fact that i speak very lousy cantonese with an accent that used to make my grandmother cringe in her sleep?? well yes, the situation has completely worsened (or improved by leaps and bounds, if you’re my grandmamma), cos now i cant speak cantonese at all. I LOST MY FREAKIN’ VOICE!!!!!!
(i absolutely hate losing my voice. i’m now completely disarmed in a world that is too highly dependant on verbal communication. people either think i’m a man or i’ve got the bird flu. and the crowning complaint is that all forms of my favourite comfort food are complete no-no’s. ice cream, chocolate, yuk gorn, deep-fried anything, candy … shit i think i just inflicted the worst of self-torture upon myself.)
*rant rant rant mumble grumble scream argh*
my 2nd day in HK is ending soon and i must say the past 48 hrs have been most unproductive, with almost 3 quarters of it being spent in bed with eye drops, vita C, cough syrup and panadol as bedpartners. am most upset about it. i am inconsolable. dont stop me now.
siiiiigh. not only is losing my voice and having gila headaches a deterrent to Mad Fun In Hong Kong, it’s also a major obstacle in the path of public speaking, or practising for it. so i’m pulling out of that darn competition because there’s no way i can pull myself together (or a 2nd speech out of my ass, for that matter) in time for the 11th of march. bah. English Speaking Union of Malaysia, perhaps next year. this year just aint our year….!
hong kong (or what little i’ve seen of it) so far has been great though. there have been a few major screw-ups in terms of difference in msian/hk rhetorical cantonese, but nothing too drastic.
oh and HK has the cutest guys!!!!! hot dudes on every corner, man.
