What??
March 23rd, 2006
“why so long never blog”
“i died already, remember??? damien rice and i are not meant to be! how can you expect me to accept the brutality of that fact and go. on. living?!”
i’m just crossing my fingers hoping that JT wins the ebay auction for me. will find out in 2 days if i got the ticket. augh two days is like, forever, man. siiiiiiiiiiigh. self, take this as a lesson to never again procrastinate, EVER. or at least, until college starts.
SPEAKING OF COLLEGE. every time people ask “so, what’s your plan now?” i’ll just go, “oh, ADP Taylors in May. either a mass comm major or a psychology major, not sure yet. no rush anyway!” but the more i parrot off this sentence, the more rushed i feel. march is ending in a bit, and then it’s April, and i’ll be a month away from college. nooooooooo. where did my 3 months of fun go?! i love my life right now. it’s the fucking bomb. i dont want it to ever end!
which is precisely the reason why i’m thinking of waiting till January next year to start college. or even better yet, apply rightaway for the Spring intake in US schools. i could fill up the next 9 months easy - there seem to be a couple of student exchanges (Switzerland, Budapest) open for applications at the moment, as well as this charity programme where young people travel to a rural area and help out with stuff there. this year’s destination is Borneo, and they leave in June if i’m not wrong. it all sounds very fun, but i’m just so torn between the whole education slash doingmyownthing dilemma.
and my dream (well, a newfound one) of attending an ivy league uni has just been slashed to bits and pieces! from what i hear, transfer students arent very readily accepted there, even if you have SATs qualifs. dude. no way on earth will i do A-levels. that and mass comm courses are quite unheard of in the Ivies? so i guess settling for a non-ivy will have to do. (hey smartypants, does U of Penn accept transfer students?)
i’ve been in an odd state lately. it’s not a bad state, but it’s not GOOD either? it’s just very strange, and very alien. though i suspect i’m beginning to quite like it. perhaps i’ll blog more about this when some strange dude isnt trying to read over my shoulder, and then y’all can help me figure out what the heck is going on in the shadowed alcoves of my mind!
Things that i’m re-doing :
1) re-reading the Da Vinci Code. borrowed the illustrated version from Aira, and it kicks ass. to staunch Christians who are ready to spear me for even picking up the book (COUGHMISSMABILCOUGH), please, save it for someone whose faith isnt going to be shaken by a mere fictitious book. i’m not afraid. and you shouldnt be, either.
2) re-playing Final Fantasy 8. HAHA i love this game! i’m currently on the way to Timber to meet Rinoa, who at this point is a sleepy moody ‘Princess’ who makes ugly train carriages.
oh and after ignoring 4 seasons of American Idol, i’ve finally got hooked on it. i havent watched today’s elimination so i have no idea who got kicked out, but judging from the performances yesterday, it has to be Bucky. i am totally rooting for Chris Daughtry as this season’s winner, i LOVE him. and no matter how much people hate Kevin Covais, he will always have a special spot in my heart! so utterly precious!
recently uncovered my camera from the abyss of the black hole that is my room, so expect some photos coming up soon! :D

I AM THE FIRST TO COMMENT! WAHHAHAHAHA
whats wrong with the da vinci code? i haven’t read it. =(
ivy league schools are extremely hard to get into. then again, you’re smart, and if you submit a super long essay with super chunted english with super everything, u might just get in. and buy tons of guccis for me. =)
2. alvin | March 23rd, 2006 at 10:18 pm
hon, i dont think US Universities use A levels in the screening process.
As for the Ivies thingie, of course they accept foreign transfer student. Universities here in US are constantly in a state where
a.) they need more talented/good result people to boost their research funding and grant/donation drive.
b.) more students = more money although Ivies do more quality control here.

tze : haha nothing is wrong with DVC! i like it :D and yea i know ivies are sooo very hard to get in. but no harm trying :D i’m not that super underqualified ….. i hope .. and eh why you want gucci! if i go to states i ship back a truckload of Coach stuff for u. extremely cheap there i hear.
alvin : hehe no i meant transfer like credit transfer .. :D from what i’ve been told, they usually dont recognize ADP and its credits. :(
4. booha | March 23rd, 2006 at 11:12 pm
la la la la.haha.yep,ivy leagues usually dont recognize ADP.either A level or IB (international baca something =p,french pre uni i think).
go straight to US next spring la!!
and spend the rest of the year urhm travelling.
5. pinkpau | March 23rd, 2006 at 11:29 pm
international baccalaurate? yerghghghhg why lah. ADP is like, so ME!!! alvls is not me at ALL. grr.
yeah seriously considering the Spring idea. but i think .. i donno .. maybe it wouldnt be the wisest of choices. i tell ppl i’m taking a half year off, and they’re like ‘wtf?!’ already. :(
6. waifon | March 24th, 2006 at 12:09 am
That was a loooooonnngggg break pinkpau. I kept tapping on the F5 key and nothing happened. Anyhow, if you want to do IB, you can try ISKL. They offer IB programmes and I supposed it’s quite a boast over there. How I wish I could spend the entire year travelling or going on a student exchange trip. AFS is fun.yea.
And I absolutely love DVC. I started reading and didnt wanna put it down. The suspense kept me going. Though part of the facts in the story were absolutely preposterous and full of contradictions, still, it was a good read. and i remember Silas. Scary dude. Angels and demons is good. So is the other 2.
If only I have the time, i will seriously consider reading it again. Memoirs of a Geisha too. So long okayyy..too bad the movie was a total screw up. Nothing but a huge rotten disappointment.

BTW..good luck in getting those tickets. I mean THE ticket. You seemed extremely upset and desperate too. Chill la wei..*gives pinkpau a comforting friendly pat on the back* :D
8. kawa | March 24th, 2006 at 12:38 am
Aahh, life of not having any shit to worryt, wake up at noon, sleep at 4am…. good times.
Heh, re-doing stuff? How about listening to Asian Kung Fu Generation? IMO, one of the best Jrock band.
9. ArtificiallyVerbose | March 24th, 2006 at 1:18 am
hmmm… the pressure of getting those tix… i think i’ll watch the auction close just to be safe :)
just wondering, what strikes u so much about the american system? i’ve got some ‘American MBA System’ (adapted from Wharton biz skool, U of Penn incidentally) used in my uni and it’s really a shit load of stress and then some. good for me i’m a masochistic stress absorber :D
10. Jay | March 24th, 2006 at 1:55 am
Now your looking to non-ivy US schools huh? Well…if you lean towards pysch, look into Binghamtom University in New York. It’s cheap, but the education is worth than the money you pay. Most students rejected from an ivy (mainly cornell) end up in Bing. (Sadly, I’m one of them =()
As for the tickets, all I can say is, I know how you feel. Your D.Rice is Derren Brown to me!
11. Chin Kian | March 24th, 2006 at 2:15 am
ivy leagues? expensive gila man. come texas A&M! cheap! hehe
does’t have to be ivy leagues, even the really good univs do not accept credit tranfers from anywhere. They want you to start off as a freshman.
I got to watch american idol live every week! bucky, lisa and kevin were the lowest three….i won’t spoil the results for you :)
12. Lalita | March 24th, 2006 at 6:03 am
Su Ann, just a suggestion if I may. You could always speak to the ADP people at Taylor’s and at other colleges as well to give you an idea about credits, transfers and unis.
There’s a lady who used to work at Inti College Malaysia’s AUP (American Uni Prog) centre when I worked there. She might still be there although mind you I left in 2001 - her name is Zaleha. You could always give her a ring as a “prospective” student even if you are not going to attend ICM. Alternatively, they have a campus in SJ.
Just a thought le … it’s just that having worked in the British Degree Prog, I know these things can be really intricate, complicated and confusing!
13. jeremy | March 24th, 2006 at 10:37 am
if i got accepted, i’d still go - regardless if i don’t get credits transferred =) binghamton’s cool … but come stony brook- it’s much closer to nyc =P
14. Adrian Ng | March 24th, 2006 at 1:21 pm
Go for the student exchange.. i nearly went last yr.. but i lost my form.. start college next year.. there is absolutely no rush at all
15. expectation | March 24th, 2006 at 4:28 pm
i was planning to do ADP too cause im like 100% sure i want to go US for undergrad but after researching on loads of US colleges’ sites, figured out that only 1 out of 5 will accept international transfer students and not only that, they might not recognize credits from taylor’s.
i suggest you get serious and go to taylor’s to find out their list of affiliated schools and email whtever US schls to find out more.
u can find out abt upenn in their website. don’t expect much financial aid from there though.
16. pinkpau | March 24th, 2006 at 10:33 pm
waifon : i dont really know about IB .. i still think i’m better off sticking to ADP. but argh, i better do my research first before i decide for sure! oh yea DVC is good isnt it :D i absolutely cannot wait for the movie. bout the ticket, sigh! bidding is still ongoing. will know how it goes in about .. a day or so. *fingers crossed!
kawa : haha YES, it’s the life. only i dont sleep at 4am, i get to sleep WHENEVER i want. haha :D and i cant re-do Asian Kung Fu Gen, cos i’ve never heard it before ..! will check them out tho :)
artificially : please do! and about my fixation with the states, it’s partially the system and also partially the environment that i want to immerse myself in. i like that they encourage students to speak up and discuss in class, i like the whole GPA thing. also dont want to go to Australia, UK, or NZ or Canada .. so US it is :) well and a whole buncha other more personal reasons.
jay : yes you have sold binghamton to me .. :D bing is pretty high on my list of schools if i opt for the psych path :)
chin kian : they are generous with loans and financial aid so no prob about the moolah :) and argh i keep hearing this unreadiness to accept foreign transfer students … :( so scary. seriously considering applying as a freshie for Spring 2007 now. AND ARGH YES I FOUND OUT KEVIN GOT BOOTED. granted he’s the worst singer of the lot, but why kick him out this week!!!!! his rendition of When I Fall In Love was just beautiful. :( bucky shoulda gone.
lalita : i spoke to the ADP people at Taylors only, and they were very misleading. haha all they seemed to have in mind was “GET THE GIRL INTO TAYLORS!”. they told me a lot of things which kinda clashed with what former ADP students have told me .. so i dont really know what to believe :( i’ll be heading down to subang to check out the colleges sometime soon, so i will most definitely look up Zaleha at Inti! thanks so much lalita .. :D
jeremy : wait, i dont understand. you mean i can apply to ivies as a transfer student, and they will accept me even though i cant transfer my credits?!?! EXPLAIN!! my interest is piqued!
adrian : i want to, i want to!!! i’m just so pissed that i dont get to go to the States and all since i already graduated high school!!! budapest is like the best out of all the other programmes they offer for 18+ years, and i’m not even really sure i wanna go there.
expectation : issit?! i hear that u of penn is super generous?!
17. Chin Kian | March 25th, 2006 at 12:06 am
pink & expectation,
they hardly offer scholarships like univs in UK but once in a while I did hear ppl getting them, have no idea how.
How can they offer grants when President Bush is sucking more money from Univs? However, they have different kind of funds like department funds, state funds, etc etc. If you come here and do well, your department might give u scholarships like my uni here.
lmk if u guys wanna know more…
18. Chin Kian | March 25th, 2006 at 12:11 am
pink,
yes i wanted bucky to go out too but even if kevin made is this week, he wouldn’t be able to stay long
19. waifon | March 25th, 2006 at 1:20 am
I agree with Chin Kian. It will hurt even more to see him go further and get booted later when he’s only thissss close in becoming the next American Idol. That sounded so commercialised.haha.
I’m gonna miss kevin. He’s just so adorable and umm..fairrrrrr..
Chris is hot hot an nothing but major hotness. Bald guys are the pwn! yea man..
20. tze | March 25th, 2006 at 2:12 am
I HEARD THAT. TRUCKLOAD OF COACH STUFF OKAY? this blog serves as my witness.
21. jeremy | March 25th, 2006 at 4:27 am
there may always be a small chance they might transfer some of your credits from wherever it is you’re applying from. but if they don’t, they’ll start you of as a freshman. if i got accepted in harvard as a freshman even if i did two years in adp in help/taylors/whatever, i’d still go.
22. Lalita | March 25th, 2006 at 5:09 am
Su Ann, Zaleha used to work at the main campus (ICM) in Nilai but you can always ask and see if she works at the SJ branch anytime during the week (if she is still there). There was another girl who used to work at ICM - Diana. Again, don’t know if Diana is still there!
Yeah, I know what you mean about misleading students - to be honest, I think a lot of students get that. Some course counselors are SO crap and some are really good at what they do. Unfortunately, it is hard to know who’s what!!! And this isn’t something you want to be gambling on anyway.
I can well believe people will try to “sell” their college’s ADP! Just trying to increase their student population wan mah! I’ve seen some of them at their “charming” best. I am sure you will eventually suss out what’s what. Takes a lot of time with research and background work but you will get there eventually.
23. hanna | March 25th, 2006 at 9:48 am
talk to ms khor kheng leik at inti subang, or mr shannon ng, and tell them hanna said to talk to them. they will be VERY helpful. sure one.
and speaking as someone who thought they didn’t have a chance in hell with their uni, my advice is get kickass SAT scores, maintain an excellent cgpa in college, and write good essays and get good recommendations (i’m assuming none of that will be a problem). if you can prove that you’re a great student, talented and will be an asset to them, you also have one other thing in your favor - universities LOVE diversity. so you may think you don’t have a chance, like i did, but you actually could be that special thing they’re looking for.
…and also, i linked you. hope you don’t mind. :)
24. pinkpau | March 25th, 2006 at 4:02 pm
chinkian : i thought if they were to kick him out, it should have been last week. but not this week! based on performance, bucky did so badly compared to kevin. chris (much as i hate to admit it) wasnt that good either this week.
waifon : yes isnt chris the best .. :D
tze : haha DONE!
jeremy : so it’s possible to do ADP locally, finish my 2 years here, then apply to states as a freshman/junior?!?! which will they most probably put me in, 1st or 3rd year?
lalita : hahaha did you use to be a college counselor too?!
preved : eep, spam!!!!
hanna : will do, thanks so much :D and yes hopefully kicking SAT butt wont be too tough! regarding the link, how could i mind?! it’s an honour :)
25. Lalita | March 25th, 2006 at 5:56 pm
I wasn’t a college counsellor as such - I worked in the School of Business and Law at ICM as an Admin Officer doing all sorts of stuff - but mainly Dissertation Level students i.e. sorting out who’s doing what with which Supervisor and then preparing final grades for Exam Board - I used to have borderline OCD about checking it all like 10 times to make sure everything was okay! The whole shebang concerning Dissertation. (I tell you when I worked with these Dissertations, I had to be very careful. I had two or three cockroach climbing up my leg from behind a dissertation!!! Eeeeck! I HATE cockroaches. What can I say, that was a hazard of the job!)
Now I still work in Higher Education and part of my job does involve offering course advise but I would never say things that are not true to get someone to come and enrol - out of principle. I would have hated people doing that to me when I was at Uni.
PS - Sorry for the long, long comments I have left re : this subject!!!
26. kawa | March 26th, 2006 at 12:45 am
If you want, i can send you the mp3s.

27. jeremy | March 27th, 2006 at 3:11 am
yeah. if they accept transfers, then you might be able to get in junior. if not, freshman.
