Blog Pencemar Budaya
May 8th, 2006
the other day i was in the elevator on the way up to my place. at the 3rd floor, a Malay kid walked in, and as he was walking into the elevator, i was unwrapping my last stick of gum and popping it in my mouth. so this kid says, “eh. nak satu. bagi!” (hey, i want one. gimme.) mildly shocked at his rudeness, i said that the one i just ate was my last, sorry that there’s no more to give to him. after that, he didnt say anything.
but then when i reached my floor, the fucker gave me the finger as i was exiting the elevator, and said, “babi orang cina, apa benda pun tak mau kasi orang melayu. baik jangan masuk negara orang melayu!” (chinese pig who doesnt want to share with malays, you shouldnt come live in a malay country)
oversensitive much? i got another story.
if you come to this blog regularly (or read the below post), you’d know that my site got hacked into a couple of days ago and was replaced by some political website with Jawi writing and stuff. some bloggers linked my blog in their posts about the sudden spate of hacked sites, and since this was after quaintly.net was revived, i got a number of new visitors who never saw the arabic website that wiped mine out over the weekend.
one of those new visitors is this utter fool who started a thread on a local forum, saying my blog was ‘kurang ajar’ cos i posted :
“if one more person texts me to say ‘assalamualaikum’, i swear i’m going to bitchsmack that person in the face.”
so this fool, he’s malay, and he’s insulted because i said i wanted to smack the next person who texts me this islamic greeting.
this idiot, he has no idea that my blog was hacked into, has completely no idea that it was replaced with an arabic website, and is totally clueless about the fact that i was inundated with ‘assalamualaikums’ on my mobile and MSN and email by my cheekier friends when i woke up on Sunday morning. so this fucker, being completely oversensitive and jumping to conclusions, started that dumb thread, plainly assuming that the sole reason i said that was because i was being racist. as a malay, he said he was “tak puas hati”.
(oh what else is new)
the even more incredulous part was that people responded to his thread saying things like, “she’s crazy” and “and it’s not even a melayu blog”. SO? you’re trying to tell me that if i were Malay and just so happened to insult the entire malay race on my blog, it’s completely fucking okay because i’m Malay?!?! THAT opinion of yours, bitches, is more racist and more STUPID than anything i could ever muster up with all my strength to say.
so, the point being, this thread-starter just waltzed into my blog from goodness knows where, saw ‘assalamualaikum’ on first glance, and proceeded to go bazookers because, oh you know, it’s an islam word on a non-islam blog, nevermind the context, it’s DEFINITELY a racist comment! so he becomes “tak puas”, starts a thread about it, and rallies for people to go against me.
… when i wasnt even being racist in the first place.
shit, i dont think i’ve EVER even been racist in my entire life.
this is so insanely oversensitive that i dont know whether to laugh and say, ’so the world is right’, or to be completely appalled and laugh and say ‘oh so the world is right’.

heya. i’ve been a silent reader all along. :) you’re a great writer. i missed the blog-hack, but when i came here yesterday, all i got was a blank page with ultrunix.net on it.
about this post…wah. the boy is really rude…damn daring somemore. i hate to say this, but i feel he is so deluded about the whole “bumiputera” status that he thinks he can demand anything he wants, it seems.
this post is just so ironic on so many levels :P

It’s alright la. Just forget about it. Perhaps it was just a slight misunderstanding and after all, you have justified all you have to say and you do not owe anybody any explaination anymore.
haha..that’s a lot of ANY. Anyhow, just remember not to disclose any personal information. That will keep you safe.hehe. Racist or not, up to them la. It’s not like we can do anything to change their stiff neck mentality.
and I wanna read your Dublin essay thingy. pls..with a cherry on top and chocolate coated strawberries too:D

“assalamualaikum” is NOT an “islamic greeting”.Non-muslim arab christians also, greet this way. Its like saying “hey, how are you?”.
11. mob1900 | May 9th, 2006 at 2:12 am
Welcome abroad, you will be pushed into being a Racist like myself. Yes, I am a Racist because my own country treats me like one. The so-called Bumiputeras has rob the real Bumiputeras(Orang Asli) of their land and resource and put themselves as Bumis instead. I’m of the 3rd generations of Chinese immigrants who tolled and bloodied for this country yet, we’re being rob daily to feed these Bumis from our Tax under pretense of NEP and ‘Malaysian’ plans. In future, I will expect my children to kowtow to these parasites whom does nothing but making up numbers to vote against non-muslims.
The kid and the blog-terrorist said is a glimpse of what this ‘Master-race’ can do, nuisance and more nuisance.
Come out from your shell and embrace reality before these Putras stank the whole country with their Moped exhaust!
12. tze | May 9th, 2006 at 2:26 am
these people got nothing better to do with their time. but then again it could just all be a hugggeee misunderstanding la. if they still want to behave like that after you cleared things up (you don’t have to anyways its your blog even if you are racist its none of their business) then they really got something coming on to them. haha.
13. Lalita | May 9th, 2006 at 2:47 am
I don’t know whether to laugh or to cry after reading this post! Same ol’ same ol’ … I see I haven’t missed much in the tanahair.
Anyway, just beware of all the psychos out there. With some people, you can explain till you’re blue in the face, but their mindset cannot be changed. That f*cking jerk sounds like one of those. I don’t care what he thinks (and jerk opinions don’t count for ANYTHING!), I LIKE your blog! =) And I am sure a lot of people would agree … SO THERE!
14. kristof | May 9th, 2006 at 3:16 am
well, you cant deny racism. take two people with similar qualifications and different religions, who will you hire?
anyway, ignorant fucks…
15. lingghezhi | May 9th, 2006 at 4:22 am
super lucky,i must say..
get hacked..
get ur blog ‘translated’ to jawi…
get to post bout it…
get net hate for it..
and now even ur chewing gum is threatened..
16. hanna | May 9th, 2006 at 5:02 am
aiyah. that’s the problem with these people. i’ve been called a traitor to my race/religion before for the most ridiculous reasons - hanging out with chinese more than malays, for one thing. they never want to see things beyond their narrow scope, and hey, if they feel better by putting you in a box, it’s their loss for never being able to know what a great writer you really are. ;)
17. hanna | May 9th, 2006 at 7:25 am
oh, and by the way, congrats on being shortlisted for impac! i experienced it back when it was first introduced, and it opens up a lot of great opportunities. :)
18. ianfluenza | May 9th, 2006 at 7:59 am
I concur with cK and mob1900…
Every single one who lived in Malaysia since when it was still called Malaya contributed to shape the country we all live in now. Those who worked hard to build the country in the social and economic aspect gave momentum to the country’s growth in the global sense, while those who did not manage to contribute enough forgone the opportunities to make our Tanah Air an even better place.
There is no point staring at a piece of untilised farm, hoping for it to grow magic pumpkins, while fending off others who tries to plant something to be shared with you eventually. And I am not generalising, mind you.
19. Colin Charles | May 9th, 2006 at 9:05 am
Eventually, we all become racist, or end up leaving the country. I think this is still why Malaysia doesn’t recognise dual citizenships…
But that doesn’t stop the flock of permanent residents, greencard holders, and ex-Malaysians from being created…
The next time you see the rude kid, give him a little gum… the one that came outta yer mouth.
20. John Doe | May 9th, 2006 at 11:10 am
Do as Colin Charles said.
21. foreverjas | May 9th, 2006 at 12:00 pm
yea.colin charles~ hahax.
22. vvens | May 9th, 2006 at 12:13 pm
the little kid was indeed rude.
you should gave him the gum you were chewing. ;p
he was racist, not you.
and for the rest of the story…
i think they are over sensitive.!
they like to make the thing sounded serious
and make it look as it it was all your fault..
grrr. rational bit lar..
23. pinkpau | May 9th, 2006 at 12:17 pm
entwined : really? i got the arabic website all the way up till the last second :( and the kid, it’s just very very bad parenting. i bet his parents must have said stuff like that around him, hence his absorption of the words. i still cant believe children can say things like that.
artificially : TIRAMISU!
foreverjas : my room is just one big pile of clothes and junk ..!
samantha : aww thanks :D that is so sweet of you to say.
cK : well, he was just a kid. i think he was just parroting the words of someone else, which is quite sad, really. about personal info, if you meant the guy who started the forum thread, i think he’s harmless. lol, very harmless in fact. all talk no action.
nina : hahhaa oooh XX..! going around saying certain races should be banned from areas in singapore .. i dont know if that’s being civic minded or racist..!
reallybites : thats right, i should channel all my energy towards watching you on webcam. heehee!
kawa : *big hugs!*
waifon : haha oh well. you’re right, i’ve said what i had to say. and how come everybody knows about my dublin essay thing?! @_@;;;
yong : HEY that’s news to me .. haha dude! thanks for the info!
mob1900 : wow. very harsh. i cannot say that i share your viewpoint. and no, this incident is not going to turn me racist .. i believe it’s going to take quite a lot of effort before something like that happens :)
tze : some of them have apologized, so oh well! :)
lalita : yes, same old same old .. who knows what 2020 will bring! hehe i’m glad you like my blog :D it’s always nice to know that.
kristof : that’s terpulang kepada individu ..! i wouldnt hire someone based on race.
lingghezhi : it’s not as bad as you make it sound .. haha
hanna : ooh some of my friends get that too - that hanging out with chinese more than malays persecution thing. it’s quite sad, really. ohh no i’m not that great a writer :) i only wish. and thanks for the congrats, i so wasnt expecting to be shortlisted at all! (btw it’s so weird that you should comment, i went to sleep yesterday thinking how you were, since i havent seen you online in a bit! how’s the internship going?!)
ianfluenza : hahha hey i love your handle! ianfluenza .. how clever! and i do agree that everyone who has been in the country since then has helped form Malaysia as we know it today, no matter what race he or she belongs to. that’s precisely why i get really upset when we’re told to “get out of a malay country”. i mean, come on.
colin charles : yea the number of our students leaving to work overseas after graduation just seems to climb and climb. it’s very sad. i think if the govt doesnt take steps to keep our intelligence within the country, we’re in for deep shit come the next decade. and lol about the gum .. but i cant do that .. :) i think it’d make things worse. the kid was just that .. a kid.
john doe : like i replied to colin’s comment, that wouldnt be a very nice thing to do!
vvens : yeah they were SUPER oversensitive .. i’m talking about something completely different, and here they are, assuming i’m insulting them @_@
24. meanoldman | May 9th, 2006 at 12:46 pm
ur not a racist but u’ve been super mean to me. that makes you some kind of ist or other. so i decided to pitch you against terrorists by hacking your site over the weekend, and in the process make money by going long on oil futures. but alas oil prices have declined since The Great Quaintly Restoration of 2006. can u find some conscience in you to loan me some money?
25. beefstew | May 9th, 2006 at 1:43 pm
Well, when Jackie Chan call an African American What’s Up My Nigga with a smiley face he got attacked (Movie: Rush Hour)
But take a listen to any Snoop Dogg and Dre’s album, the word nigga appeared nine out of ten words he uttered referring to his own homeboys. So…. well….
26. Alia | May 9th, 2006 at 1:54 pm
Hey there Su Ann :)
I’m one of your silent readers as well (as per 1st comment) but I finally found the right post to come out of the unknowns. Haha :P
Every race has it’s black sheeps; sorry you had to encounter TWO in such a short period of time. I guess the thing with them is that they just jump up at any chance they get to bang on the Chinese - likewise really for some kiam sap Chinese buggers.
But DO know that some of us Malay readers KNOW that it was sarcasm (at its finest at that) and we don’t take it as an insult. Heck, you got HACKED for pete’s sake! Sheesh.
DO keep blogging yea? I really enjoy reading ur posts. Especially the ‘deeper’ ones. You’ve got a nice writing style. No surprise you got shortlisted for that Dublin award ;) Good luck!
27. Bunni3 | May 9th, 2006 at 3:01 pm
ZomG.. I think it is the funniest thing with our dearest beloved bumiputerans think that you’re racist. All I can say is, from all that I’ve read of your blog.. you’ve never attacked anything that didn’t attack you. LOL!
For that kid to even had ask you for your chewing gum is like being a complete dickhead. Which mother thought her kid to ‘rudely’ beg for candy or in this case, chewing gum? Then, have the nerve to make a rude comment about you… Lol, if I were you, that kid would have never been able to speak again after that comment he make. It’s kinda funny considering that without the ‘orang cina’, there would not really have been a Malaysia.. think about who brought in the trades when Malacca started the country?
Don’t get me wrong though, not all Malays are like that. There are heaps here in NZ where the Unis are. I was pretty shock to see them here but they seem more ‘civillised’ which is something that I respect. Meh, racism has like no end of an argument. It goes in a circle which is currently giving me a headache.
I say screw them to the core! Not literally.
28. Liz | May 9th, 2006 at 3:53 pm
that kid is RUDE. tsk. well there ARE a lot of racist people around, oversensitive ones too … =( but what can we do?
tsk. but still, that kid is damn kurang ajar man.
29. KY | May 9th, 2006 at 4:24 pm
There are always fools among us regardless of our racial origins. Lets deal the individual and not bring this up to the level that is both unncessary and inappropriate.
I consider myself a Malaysian.
30. pinkpau | May 9th, 2006 at 4:33 pm
meanoldman : shush and go back to work!
beefstew : ooh, the ubiquituous nigga issue .. :)
alia : hey thanks for dropping a comment :D glad to know you like my supposedly deeper posts .. i’m guessing you mean the sappy emo ones that are addressed to nameless people? haha i so love it when people tell me they like to read those posts, cos some of my friends hate em. they tell me they dont get the vibe of those posts :( oh and about this whole oversensitive issue, i wasnt being sarcastic..! just being mock-angry at some cheeky friends :P
bunnie : actually i was so STUNNED that i couldnt even form a reply before the elevator doors closed. so he stood there smiling smugly at me while i was like OMG.
liz : yes, very rude..! it’s one thing to directly and impolitely ask a stranger for something, and it’s totally something else to assume the reason they didnt want to give it to you was cos they are of a different race.
ky : i’m sorry, but i’m dealing with this in my own way, in the way that i know best :) i fail to see how this is unnecessary or inappropriate, seeing as i am not The Star or a widely-read publication. and i quite applaud your allegation of nationality. i’m sure a lot of us feel the same way.
31. ria | May 9th, 2006 at 5:45 pm
hey, i’ve been completely out of the loop lately, what with all the changes happening in my life right now.. so sorry to hear that you have to deal with that. *hugs* hope the hack won’t happen again and that jerks would stay far far away.

apples : HAHA OMG no way..!!!
jimmy : that wasnt racist :) that was anything but.
ewe : yea i hear that was after the arabic page was taken down .. oddly i had to put up with the arabic page from beginning till end :(

haha, if the kids say this to me, i swear i’ll smack that boy or sue him….
42. shu | May 10th, 2006 at 1:20 pm
well.. life’s like that, living a multicultural country like Malaysia, we’re sure bound to have some sort of ‘racial tension’ ‘cos it’s a fact that all races are indeed ‘different’ from one another. then again, i won’t let my personal oponions mix into this as some way or another it’ll then be misconstrued and point to me as being biased or worst ‘racist’, anyway, boy did i get a laugh when i visited the forum.. damn funny lar those people, pinky :)
btw, good way to garner in more traffic eh.. cheerios!

LASKAR CINTA
wahai,
jiwa jiwa yg tenang..
berhati-hatilah dirimu..
kepada..
Hati hati yang penuh dengan..
kebencian yang dalam
karena,
sesungguhnya iblis..
ada dan bersemayam..
Di hati yang penuh..
Dengan benci…
dihati..
Yang penuh..
Dengan prasangka
LASKAR CINTA..
SEBARKANLAH BENIH BENIH CINTA..
MUSNAHKANLAH VIRUS VIRUS BENCI..
VIRUS YANG BISA RUSAKKAN JIWA..
DAN BUSUKKAN HATI..
LASKAR CINTA..
AJARKANLAH ILMU TENTANG CINTA..
KARENA CINTA ADALAH HAKIKAT
DAN JALAN YANG TERANG BAGI SEMUA MANUSIA
jika..
kebencian meracunimu..
Kepada manusia lainnya…
maka sesungguhnya iblis…
sudah berkuasa atas dirimu
maka..
jangan pernah berharap..
aku akan mengasihi..
menyayangi..
Manusia manusia..
yang penuh benci..
seperti kamu.
Wahai jiwa-jiwa yang tenang..
jangan sekalikali kamu..
Mencoba jadi Tuhan
dengan mengadili dan mengahakimi
Bahwasanya kamu
memang tak punya daya dan upaya.
Serta kekuatan
untuk menentukan kebenaran yg sejati..
Bukankah kita
memang tercipta laki laki & wanita
dan menjadi suku suku bangsa..
yang pasti berbeda
bukankah kita
harus saling mengenal dan menghormati
Bukan untuk
saling bercerai berai dan
berperang angkat senjata
peace be upon you (assalamualaikum)…
dont let your hatred to one person, became a tumor and cause you to hate everybody else…please, no racism…i my self hate those racist…let us be friends…
Im sorry for the kid too…because he “kurang ajar”…
