Shoes! Books! Movies!
August 3rd, 2006
i didnt mean to :( but it happened again.

i was telling myself, okay, focus - you’re just going to go to the cinema, get the tickets and LEAVE. DONT SPEND. YOU DONT HAVE MONEY.
but there were just SO many people in vincci and i just had to go take a quick look and urhghghghgh. bloody sales!!!
i met up with hock chuan after that to go … bookshopping! hehe this was FREE cos i’ve still got all these MPH gift vouchers left over as a parting gift from the ex-high-school. in retrospect, it was actually very generous of them. bought 3 books - Harmony Silk Factory, We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver and finally The Child In Time by Ian McEwan, whom i totally love and want to marry and wanna start a family with :D

(because i’ve never had a bagel in my life!)
the above pic was taken before the bookstore’s salespeople came over and gave us the overused ’sorry no photos allowed’ reprimand. damn irritating ok. later on we wanted to take pics with Room’s ‘Caution - Sale Ahead!’ sign, but were stopped as well. grrrrrrr. what is the LOGIC behind this??? if we wanted to steal whatever brilliant ideas/concepts you have, there’s so many ways we can do it besides with photos! and it’s not like your place is an airport or a train station that we can blow to smithereens -_- seriously, why do all establishments jump on this no-photos-policy bandwagon when they have absolutely no reason to?!
hey i want to read chick lit! there’s so much new chick lit out but i barely had the time to skim through all of them. so do recommend me some titles! i would be very grateful.
oh and hock chuan and i went to catch The Lake House. it is a beautiful movie, and everybody should go watch it. the end.
wait wait! keanu reeves is hot. sandra bullock is hot. the real end.

cake!

2. pinkpau | August 3rd, 2006 at 2:18 am
hehe but i can make so much money as a co-hare!!

I saw the Lake House, not too bad. Speaking of that no photos allowed thing, that really gets to me. I’m the type of person who likes to take pictures of my surrounding. I do get that alot, esp since I’m Indian and that most of the time I haven’t shaven so I look like trouble. Blah. I was kicked out of the local mall once beecause of my camera. Oh well.
4. nina | August 3rd, 2006 at 3:10 am
FOUR new pairs?! *faints*
For click lit, I highly recommend Meg Cabot, though not necessarily her Princess Diaries series. Jemima J by Jane Green is also good.
5. pinkpau | August 3rd, 2006 at 3:42 am
jay : lake house is GOOD! i am so in love with it! really wanna catch Il Mare now, i’m embarassed i havent watched it. bout the camera thing, man that sucks. majorly! =(
nina : i just had to :( they were so cheap! and i’ve read the first two of the Princess Diaries, but the series seemed to get worse so i didnt finish the 3rd. i’ve read the one thats called All American Girl or something like that, that was just ok. did Jane Green write The Ex Files and The Other Woman? haha i liked those two! i’ll pick up Jemima J soon :D thanks for the recommendation!
6. Jay | August 3rd, 2006 at 3:55 am
Yea, I haven’t seen Il Mare as well. No place around me has it. Oh well.
7. Ah Jin | August 3rd, 2006 at 5:05 am
Hi pinkpau, yeah…it is really irritating not allowed to take photographs at places you wish you could. The reason for such rules cos there’s some idiots out there who conveniently snapped recipe books (as told in “World is Flat” by Thomas L. Friedman) using hp camera etc.
Besides, some people do get pics-phobia, especially if someone you don’t know try to secretly take their pic(s).

oops, i mean

Ooh, try Every Boy’s Got One, also by Meg Cabot. Also My Man Pendleton by Elizabeth Bevarly :)
10. nina | August 3rd, 2006 at 5:16 am
And lastly, the original Il Mare is a very beautiful movie.

There isn’t a solution to irritating salespeople telling you off for taking pictures except just doing it. Just take the picture and you WIN regardless of whether they tell you off or not. If they insist on you deleting the pics, apologize and walk away/run.

Chic-lit … Something that I hardly read but I have read several good ones.
You can try The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger . This book is simply amazing. Read it like last year and I could not stop laughin’ … Hehe.
And another one would be Lipstick Jungle by Candace Bushnell (the writer for Sex and the City). Well, this is a good chic-lit too. I’ve a page in my site about the books that I have read, check it out if you wanna know more.
Heehee. I love your shoes!
(:

do you read sophie kinsella ? she’s so funny. i really want to read undomestic goddess. if you really want a really sweet heartwarming author you should read cecilia ahern. her book ps i love you will leave you bawling your eyes out.
btw, i really like the shoes !
14. pinkpau | August 3rd, 2006 at 11:38 am
jay : if i come visit you in NY, i’ll bring il mare! :D and windstruck. and my sassy girl. and sets and sets of boxed corean dramas!!!
ah jin : i would prefer if they kept a look out for people who snapped pix of books and then kicked them out instead of us poor folks who just want to camwhore in funky environments -_-
nina : elizabeth bevarly! have never heard of her. will definitely check her out then :D bout il mare, i knowwww!! everyone keeps SAYING :(
will : haha thats what i usually do in restaurants .. just take the pix anyway. they dont usually stop us a 2nd time. lol ur such a seasoned photographer! :D
kyels : there’s this book thats like something Lipstick as well .. i think its Lipstick Chronicles? i heard that was a rubbish read. but i cant really remember the title, so i’ve just been avoiding all the titles that have Lipstick in it, hahaha. but ok, will check out candace bushnell!
turqoise : yea i’ve read a few of her books but i’m not a hardcore fan. undomestic goddess was actually pretty good, along with can u keep a secret. the rest were crap. i didnt like the shopaholic series at all. and i’ve read PS I Love You .. it was touching at the start but then got a bit redundant!
15. Waifon | August 3rd, 2006 at 11:43 am
omg… have you ever done a shoe count before? KLCC don’t allow cameras. That’s all i know but it’s old news la. Those Gurkha guards will come and reprimand you okay. So memalukan.
Anybow, do read Sophie Kinsella’s books. Really funny. I just ordered a book from Amazon.com and someone’s gonna send to me on US, arriving this Friday. It’s pretty good it seems but not chic lit la.
Diary: A novel by Chuck Palahniuk. His book entitled Fight Club and Choke is brilliant too.
What about alex Haley’s Roots and Queen? About slavery and all that. oh yeah, nice shoes!hahha:D
16. Joshua | August 3rd, 2006 at 12:15 pm
Bagels… hmm… there’s a bagel place at avenue K. Nearby Burger King…

18. Waifon | August 3rd, 2006 at 3:51 pm
Pinks, are you watching Engame or watched? I’m trying to get Sunday’s tickets but sold out. and I’m not free on weekdays and m gonna catch Shelley Leong on Saturday at Mont Kiara. how? You know anybody who has tickets but can’t make it or has extra tickets cos I really want it :(
19. pinkpau | August 3rd, 2006 at 4:39 pm
waifon : sophie kinsella, but not chick lit?? u mean she can actually write other stuff?! :P lemme know how it goes. hey chuck palahniuk isnt chick lit..! is alex haley chick lit also?
joshua : WHAT REALLY?!??!
ront : okay this whole technicality with defining shoes is getting irritating..
waifon : i’m going to watch it tonight! sundays tickets from what i hear has been all bought out by the embassy of ireland. u may want to give them a ring and ask them whether u can buy off them! cos i remember when i went to watch Happy Days they bought out a few rows but not all of them were full. the number is 03-2161 2963. hey lucky u get to watch shelley leong and cosmic funk e :( i’m not going to be able to make it.
20. george | August 3rd, 2006 at 5:05 pm
haha..your tongue looks disconnected from your face :p
21. lips | August 3rd, 2006 at 5:06 pm
ooooooooh you have il mare?!! no way! where’d you find it? i read the summary on wikipedia and it sounds better than Lake House. i still loved Lake House though. and i agree with you about the music haha. beautiful!
22. ront | August 3rd, 2006 at 5:31 pm
ooops…has someone mentioned it already? sorry abt that.
23. jennie | August 3rd, 2006 at 5:45 pm
oo u shoudl read cecilia ahern’s books :) starting from PS i love u till the latest one, if you could see me now.. yup its chic lit alrite… he he *wow* ha ha, now i feel like shopping for shoes!
24. ria | August 3rd, 2006 at 5:55 pm
when i said in the days to come i didn’t mean in the same week! :P but i guess, a bargain’s a bargain.. i like the pink strappy one this time. hehe.
25. steph | August 3rd, 2006 at 6:30 pm
not sure if you’d classify jodi picoult as chick lit.. but i do recommend her. pretty awesome read. ‘empress orchid’ by anchee min and ‘or give me death’ by ann rinaldi.
ooh. and even though its a play.. but the best ever if you havent yet had the chance to read it ‘the importance of being ernest’- oscar wilde. gay men make excellent playwrights. plus its a quick read for some british wit.
have a good weekend =P
26. Waifon | August 3rd, 2006 at 6:33 pm
I don’t think I’m going to watch it then. Called KLPac. tak jadi wei :( no no. Sophie Kinsella’s are all chick lits but the book I ordered from US is not chick lit, yet it’s still good. That’s what I meant.
Good books but not chick lit would be Chuck Palaniuk and Alex Haley’s. Haha..what la.
No, I’m not catching CFE’s last gig. Can’t make it either cos I have stuff to do. Crossing my fingers that I’ll be able to make it on Saturday then. Oh if you’re going tonight, you might bumped into Albert from glaringnotebook.com. Really nice dude. Have fun kay? Tell me how it goes. Emo :(
27. tze | August 3rd, 2006 at 7:00 pm
how cheap is cheap? *salivates
28. lishun | August 3rd, 2006 at 7:44 pm
bah. am going s’pore tonight. or else would be at endgame too! be sure to do a review ya?
29. Samantha | August 3rd, 2006 at 7:53 pm

30. JustAnotherTragedy | August 3rd, 2006 at 8:33 pm
Not fair. How come you guys in KL get to have mega sales and we don’t over here in Kch :(
31. entwined | August 3rd, 2006 at 9:34 pm
W.T.F. SEVEN PAIRS in a few days! I would really LOVE to be in your shoes right now! :/
btw, the bagel place is called “Bagel Station”. I like the bagels there, but they give soooo leeeetleee cream cheese! :( i think you can ask them to give extra cream cheese, heehee, cos the shop is VERY deserted :P
32. little.black.book | August 3rd, 2006 at 9:38 pm
love the tongue and the shuzs

33. entwined | August 3rd, 2006 at 10:40 pm
oh btw, Harmony Silk Factory is not bad. Usually, any sort of biographical book will bore the tears out of me, but Aw’s writing style is mesmerising. :) Still reading my copy though. The thing about not having a conventional storyline is that one doesn’t feel the need to rush through the entire book for the resolution.
34. nina | August 3rd, 2006 at 10:45 pm
Another book suggestion: the Undead series by MaryJanice Davidson. It’s a different kind of chick lit.. hehe. Hope you like it ^_^
35. Joshua | August 3rd, 2006 at 10:49 pm
Avenue K’s the mall! Yeap u heard it right
36. Esther | August 3rd, 2006 at 10:55 pm
i’m so jealous. shoe shopping, i mean. won’t be free till after next week before i could get any. i’m sure by the time, i’d only see leftovers. sigh.
i’ve got silk factory too, but haven;’t got the time to read it yet tho. for the chick lit, if it’s considered one, i suggest meg cabot’s size 12 is not fat. it’s good. witty. brainy.
and, keanu reeves is totally H-O-T! *drools*
37. pinkpau | August 3rd, 2006 at 11:32 pm
george : nooo gimme my tongue back
lips : yea i’ve got all these dvds that i bought but never watched. il mare’s one of them :P and yes the music in lake house is goooood
ront : yes someone has .. :) no worries.
jennie : yup i’ve read PS I Love You but wasnt terribly impressed so i never picked up any of her others. will look out for If You Could See Me Now tho! :D
ria : haha i couldnt help it!!! arhghghg stop me =(
steph : i’ve read Jodi Picoult - this one about a young teenage couple with a suicide pact? i was so intrigued by the plot but the quality of her writing just doesnt match up with her brilliant story ideas. it’s like she had such a good platform to work on but couldnt pen it all down well enough. that said tho, do recommend one of her books! like the one that you think is best! empress orchid is on my to-read list! will look up ann rinaldi :)
waifon : HEY you know what, i DID bump into him … hahaha its such a concidence that u mentioned him!!! jasiminne introduced us. very nice guy, yes :)
tze : haha u see that black slipper thingy at the top, its like rm20??? and the rest was about rm30+. but the ones from Tangs Studio that i got the day before was like rm20+. damnnnnnn cheap.
lishun : i know how u feel! was supposed to go abroad two days ago but then my trip was postponed :P hehe i was so glad cos that means i can watch endgame! no regrets, i really enjoyed it
samantha : the ones i got yesterday ranged from m20 to rm40!
justanothertragedy : what?? you dont?? isnt megasale like nationwide?!
entwined : hahaha love the pun. actually 9 pairs.. i put two more on hold in the klcc branch cos mid valley didnt carry my size.. :X oohhh i definitely have to check out the bagel place. nyehehehe
little black book : errrrr nice plug.
entwined : actually, harmony silk factory is not a book i would have usually picked up. but some of my friends think its suuuuuch a good book, so hmm! cant wait to get started on it
nina : haha nina! you are so full of book recommendations! gimme more, gimme more :D not just chick lit but anything!
joshua : OOH cant wait :D
esther : no worries, i think next week is still fine for shopping :) but of cos go during the weekdays! mm well definitely check out this meg cabot book. title sounds very interesting! and yes i want to marry keanu reeves..

There’s no such thing as enough shoes for girls..so don’t feel guilty !
39. MichelleSY | August 4th, 2006 at 12:12 am
LOL - seven pairs and counting! You are one lucky chica to be able to scoop up so many deals at such great prices :D
As for chick lit, well *glances around furtively and whispers in a hoarse undertone* - I can’t go past Jane Austen :p
Yeah, I know, I know, I am old-fashioned (and probably showing my age into the bargain), what can I say? :) But I also love (not necessarily chick lit per se): Pearl S. Buck, JD Robb and Laurell K. Hamilton (a bit too gory to be classified as chick lit, but hey *shrugs*)
Take care!
Cheers,
MichelleSY

42. ront | August 4th, 2006 at 3:04 pm

wish men’s footwear are just as affordable as ladies….
43. vvens | August 4th, 2006 at 6:02 pm
vincci’s sales was great!!!!!
i can’t control myself either! ;p
44. steph | August 4th, 2006 at 7:49 pm
lol. okies. yupz. i must admit the pact wasnt one of her better ones. my favourite will still have to be ‘my sister’s keeper’ if you havent already read that.
plus, just caught the lake house tonight. some bits dig drag out a little and the plot a little far-fetched.. was kinda expecting something like ‘the notebook’, but yea they were in different leagues anyways. it was awesome all the same. esp when seen with the appropriate company =P
