Coup D’etat in Pad Thai Land

September 20th, 2006

so Thailand’s armed forces have declared martial law upon their country in an attempt to remove the Thai prime minister, Thaksin, from government. it all sounds very scary, what with army tanks moving in and being positioned around the city of Bangkok, and the military shutting down news broadcast channels like CNN and CNBC. last i heard, there’s an imposed 10pm curfew tonight.

and that they’re shutting down all phone lines as well as Internet access in Thailand.

soooo, imagine my surprise (and concern! concern! i luv my friends okay!) when i saw Gook on MSN!

».¸.·* pinkpau says:
eh but i thought they were going to shut down ur phone lines and internet

».¸.·* pinkpau says:
so how come ur still here

Gook says:
not yet

Gook says:
mahai cut down my internet i gonna kill them

Gook says:
they can take my pride and my tax money
but not my DOTA!!!

-__- wtf.

people in thailand, take care :( i really hope there’s not gonna be any bloodshed. and that they dont cut off your internet access.

Its nothing serious in terms of potential for violence… there are tourists and many people posing and taking pictures with the soldiers there. Anti-Thaksin mechandise being sold as well (such as colourful pants). I think its taken as a welcome relief by many.

At least the thais have the guts to do what’s needed for their nation. notethat one of the generals in charge of the coup is not a buddhist. but he still does what is needed for a change for the better for their country. unlike malaysians. something like that would never happen.

not only can i read your blog for places to eat but for news updates!!
my nose has pretty much been stuck to the books with exam day drawing closer and closer that i choose not to read the news nowadays
i never thought it would escalate to this level but the ppl of thailand have been wanting to get rid of thaksin for quite a while,
he is popular among the ppl of the rural areas as he passes them gifts (cows, food, etc)
one women quoted “i love thaksin, i wish that he will always remain as prime minister”
too bad the population doesn’t agree
    (article from TIME ,last year)
