Turning 18
October 10th, 2006
i so loved my 18th birthday! *skips around happily* it started out wonderfully with ice cream, hock chuan, a lifetime supply of L’occitane soap, and lots and LOTS of birthday phonecalls and texts. then when i came home, i found birthday emails and a birthday thread for me in the RBJ boards celebrating my new legal status! haha. it so rocks to be 18.
in the evening, i had dinner with my best friends at sevenatenine’s upper floor before the actual party started. it was wonderful to finally have all 6 of us in the same place at the same time - we don’t meet up often enough! man, what i’d give to go back to high school days when i just had to turn around to see all of them sitting behind and beside me :(

we had to cut short our dinner and conversation coz the early birds were already coming in by 9pm. skipped dessert, we did :( later, more people arrived and claustrophobia started settling in at around 10pm. i instantly regretted not having booked more space, argh. but the upside to that was that it totally encouraged mingling. i was a bit worried at first that my friends from different circles wouldnt get along, but alcohol and shoulder-rubbing (literally) brings people together :D

for one night, all of my different worlds intersected, and it was so nice to have all my closest friends right there at the juncture with me. i was just running on an incredible high that night - i was surrounded by people i love, who love me back as well. there was no need for masks or deceptions or bad excuses. everyone was smiling, talking, laughing, dancing, fooling around.. it was just awesome.

the above three pics (and a few more in this post) were taken using Asyraf’s camera. i’m glad he brought his cam cos i barely took pictures that night. i made the mistake of giving Dexter my camera and telling him to take pics for me .. cos all he did was take pics of himself with different girls!! >:( argh!! anyway damn nice lah the quality of dslr pics. cis. i’m jealous now.

sevenatenine is a fantastic venue to hold an event. they were very efficient from beginning till end. even before the 6th, they were super diligent- calling me every once in a while to confirm my dinner reservation, the patio reservation, my menu, checking if i had any additional requests etc.
and they very graciously allowed me to bring in external catering! i completely forgot to inform them that i’d be having strawberries, marshmallows and chocolate fondue from Chocz, and i honestly thought that they wouldnt allow it cos of the extra work they had to put in .. but they totally gave me the green light! it was so funny, i actually told the waiters to just dump all the cookies in a huge bowl, the marshmallows in another, and so on .. but the food all came back arranged nicely in platters with toothpicks in them! i was so surprised when the waiters told me the chef insisted they be served like that. damn cool. i love you, chef of sevenatenine!
the waiters and staff assigned to my area were absolutely superb. there was some shit going on with the bills cos people were just ordering bottles and drinks and then putting it on my tab, that and there were some freeloaders from different tables whom i didnt even *know* - but the staff were just so extremely patient and efficient about everything. they moved very quickly, and actually checked with me whenever anyone ordered something. no complaints either when they had to accomodate over 70 guests instead of the 30 pax i originally booked for.
sevenatenine has always been one of my favourite places to chill out - the ambience and music is great, the food’s good, fantastic interior, the service is excellent .. what more could one ask for! now it’s my fav place to have a gathering. to heck with The Loft! and Passion! sevenatenine is where it’s at :D i’m already planning my next party there..

prior to the evening, i got all these “see u tonite!” texts and calls. the recurrent theme was “cant wait to finally meet Martian!”. i just laughed it off. BUT THEN. news started spreading that he was gonna be there, and barely an hour into the party, people were asking every 5 minutes “WHEN IS MARTIAN GOING TO GET HERE???”

but as jovann bluntly puts it, i wasnt the star that night. Martian was. :(
so the infamous Martian met my friends that night. yeah lah yeah lah. can i have my attention now please???

at around 1am, a bunch of us crashed at the Ascott. we just sat around talking and bitching and planning our december vacation … or rather, they did :P i was far away making out with Martian, hahaha. 4am saw all of us driving out to Jln Alor for supper, and when we came back we were all just high on lack of sleep. we did stupid things like sit on the floor of the elevator, laughing hysterically at things that weren’t even funny.
and while the guys slept in the next room, us girls sat in bed talking about who’s been baaaad. haha. good times, good times. wouldnt trade the day for anything in the world.
