Hanoi Part Hai – Sofitel Metropole Chocolate Buffet

October 25th, 2006

after consulting his travel Bible – which is the Luxe City Guide – Martian wanted to take me to the Sofitel Metropole for its famous Sunday brunch. ‘Sundays were made for the Sofitel Metropole’, a sign at the entrance boasts. but me being me refused to wake up that early, and so we missed the only chance we had to experience this existential validation of every Sunday we’ve ever had.

but then! we strolled past the Sofitel the next day and GUESS WHAT!

THEIR CHOCOLATE BUFFET IS ALL WEEK LONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

of course we went in!!! and i *DIED*. i swear i died. but here are some pictures to tempt your palate. mine was satisfied 50 times over that afternoon :P

clockwise from top – chocolate spring roll, royale chocolate cake which was @#$%(%*$ly awesome because of the peanut butter base at the bottom, chocolate croquant, chocolate mousse

the ubiquitous chocolate fountain that came with the ubiquitous marshmallows and fruits. this one had mango in the fruit selection. chocolate + mango = no

chocolate truffles

chocolate creme brulee!

little chocolate nems (spring rolls)! crispy flour skins that ooze out chocolate when you bite into them. yummmmyyyy.

butter biscuit tarts with chocolate filling. VERY good indeedy.

hard white chocolate sandwiched between dark chocolate pieces

marshmallows coated in chocolate, sprinkled with chopped pistachios

chocolate canneloni! sooo nice because there’s so much chocolate in each bite

chocolate cake in fondue and raisins

chocolate cookies, yum

NOISETTES MY ULTIMATE FAV TYPE OF CHOCOLATE EVARRRR

pralines. Martian loved them

last but not least, my fav – the Chocolate Bombe, which is a moussey icecreamy sort of cake topped with gooey chocolate sauce. each bite is like an express ticket to heaven.

siiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. and so much more. they had other stuff too- like chocolate ice cream, different types of chocolate ganache, chocolate mousse, milk and pieces of chocolate with diff cocoa concentration for you to make your own chocolate milk… and all for USD 8!!

it’s official – Sofitel Metropole’s Chocolate Buffet is what I came to Hanoi for.

    I don’t care…
I expect a box..no, make that a carton of GODIVA chocolates when you return!!!

  • 20. steph  |  October 26th, 2006 at 6:08 am

lol. all you kids above. you can experience a typically similar chocolate buffet at the HIlton back home (the one in KL sentral). the spread is the same, they have a chocolate fountain (larger too infact), and they make hot chocolate for you on the spot by melting the choccies of your choice in milk. its RM 30 for the buffet which is pretty close to the USD 8 su ann is paying.

you people who are wanting to go all the way to hanoi, look around in your own backyard first.

having said that, hope you’re having an enjoyable holiday su ann!

  • 24. pinkpau  |  October 26th, 2006 at 7:33 pm

hishy : hehe i live to torture you!

lalita : im pretty sure the buffet is here to stay.. :D

catchan : what is a moro gold bar? why does NZ have all these cool chocolates that msia doesnt?!

johann : well thats like the secondary reason :P

entwined : hey the truffles are very good :D

michellesy : you know what! i didnt buy an aodai :( im at the airport right now, so no chance now. sobs.

therealanonymous : ya ya so martian keeps reminding me.. :(

sweat : why luckily?!?! POOR YOU is more like it!!! you’re sooo missing out on one of the finer pleasures of life :O

kevin : hehe come hanoi lah, USD1 can buy you your noodles and drink already

nyrac : china and england? what about ROME???

    d : nope its always there :)

    flanegan : O_O i knowww

amanda : being at the buffet made my month :P

    lishun : siigh i know what u mean =(

stephanie : HEHE every girl’s dream, pms or not

tze : got wat! the post below

jimmy : why u wtfark me! show u nice pics also u like that =(

porcupine : canned curry chicken??? eewwww??! is it the one with potatoes inside? eh cannot i refuse to buy godiva.. you must have leonidas. that’s the good stuff. remember, it’s LEONIDAS you want!

steph : ahh im sure most ppl know about the choc buffet in hilton already :) size of chocolate fountain is overrated cos ultimately it’s not like the bigger the fountain is, the better the fondue becomes. though hilton’s chocolate fountain fondue IS better than the one in sofitel hanoi.

justanothertragedy : ya me too :P

    ria : visit malaysia first!!!!

  • 25. TheRealAnonymous  |  October 26th, 2006 at 10:24 pm

    dammit… I gotta get me some !!

  • 26. Porcupine  |  October 26th, 2006 at 11:06 pm

A Moro Gold bar is a round chocolate bar with mousse in the middle ( I think it’s a mousse, it’s not a nougat but I can’t quite remember what it is) and hokey-pokey bits around it. It’s quite nice. =^^=
