2006 In A Meme Nutshell

with the new year just hours away (cue exclamations like, “oh, where did the year go?”), i thought i’d put up this New Year’s meme survey thingamijig that i posted on my blog last new year’s eve as well. it’s funny to see how different your answers are after one year, and it’s funny how some things dont change.

Two Nights In Malacca

it was a mad mix of everything. the best moment was when i fell sick and jovann fed me medicine. and playing Black Magic till we couldnt keep our eyes open anymore. and eating all that chocolate Lynn brought back from Australia. hah! i have now tried the Cookie Dough Kit Kat! and just about everything else on Australian candy bar shelves, thanks to Lynn and her Humongous Bottomless Bag of Chocolate.

pictures!

okay no more. no lah actually got some more pics but i am late for my lunch app with Kevin the Beaver (i dont know why he is Kevin the Beaver, i just need a new nickname for him because half the world is called Kevin. correct or not, i bet you, yes you, know at least 5 Kevins off the top of your head. Kevin Low, change your name can ah. if not then i will call you Kevin the Beaver.) so i must stop here, shut down my laptop, and go shower. byebye!

Lesson Learnt

this has been the most depressing christmas eve ever. i’m doing this all wrong. it’s not too late to fix things but i just cant help feeling shitty about being so careless. allowing the most beautiful time of the year to be screwed up because of inconsistency. confusion. perfectionist attitudes. too much thinking.

christmas used to be so easy. i’ve deviated from what matters most.

A-Z of Camp

Assignments - eye-openers

Bota - a demon that eats/catches kids who dont wear pants

Crying - some of this on the 2nd last night
Carpenters, The - what we sang to distract us from the heat and boredom
Carols - what we sang at the top of our lungs at night on the street
Chan Lee - diam diam ubi berisi

Disgusting - the only word to describe the huge tortoise tank that we had to clean. picture lots of muck and slime and decomposed bananas and tortoise excrement. then picture yourself wading through and picking that goop up with your bare hands.
Durian - a mountain of which we had to finish in order not to incur wrath of superiors

Environmental - the opposite of which this camp was. entirely too much plastic and styrofoam being used. tsk tsk.

Fingernails - to be kept for Christmas parties

Games - headache-inducing shit like Magic Numbers, Johnny Whoops, Bang Bang, How Many Horses Are There, Black Magic, Beyond The Obvious, Grandma Likes. arhghghghghghgh. i feel stupid.

Heartbreaking - what Bethany Home was
Hose - what we had to use to shower… in toilet stalls
Holes - 4 feet deep ones. argh!
Hot Stuff - the name of my team!

Ipoh - first destinatioon
Internet - what i was clawing the floors for by the end of camp
Indignance - and some anger
Ilias - little monster with a big heart

J.W.W Birch - bet you dont know what the W.W stands for. yeah. we didnt either.
Jirwan - who came to visit us bearing chee cheong fun! and he piggybacked me too.

Jonathan - Buaya of the Camp. at least he listens to good music
Journal - an insight into the camp’s participants. some brief, some 8 pages long with a sajak at the end

Kam - brothers who are the two of the coolest adults ever
Khong - chi chung and amanda, siblings whom i thought were a couple at the start of camp
Kids - the cutest ever at the Parit orphanage

Leak - what our tent experienced in the middle of the night when it started raining. juuuuust greeeeeeeat!
Leong - big friendly bear who gives us food
Logo - what we had to quickly cover up in panic

Mural - what we painted at Bethany Home

Madeliene - whom i sat beside on the bus, and originally thought was so quiet. OH MY GOD i
have never been wronger about anything in my life.

Meals - too many of these!!!!!!

Notebooks - with bittersweet messages

Opposites - attract
Oreos - our motivator in times of need. okay lah maybe just mine.

Parit - 2nd destination, land of Rumah John Kam
Playground - what we built for the orphans at Parit

Period - what i unexpectedly got. hello, twice in two weeks??? i only have so much blood to give!
Paris Hilton - we had our own at this camp!
Pasir Salak - 3rd destination, heaven because there were proper showers and beds

Quiz - we didnt kick that much ass after all

Rafting - down Sungai Perak in the scorching heat for hours on end

Roommates - best companions in the middle of the night out on wooden porches, gossiping and spying on lovebirds
Rain - what we had to keep building the playground in

Redoxon - what i look forward to in the morning

Sultan Muzaffar Shah I - who?
Stench - what we emanated after all that sweating and toiling
Supplies - MY JOKE

Toilet Paper - what Jue Liene has a steady supply of. also what i forgot to bring
Teamwork - of utmost importance

Tanlines - all in the wrong places
Teluk Intan - 4th and final destination, land of chee cheong fun

Used Sanitary Pads - what clogged up the ladies loo at Bota Kanan
Underwear - cleans ones of which i ran out of

Vanity - no place for this
Voon - who should have been here

Water - definitely a shortage of in Perak

Xylophone - not that there were any at camp.. i just dont know what to write for X

Yun Ni - who entertained us with all her strange campsongs

Zeek - counting his calories for him, talking about lurveeee, camwhoring, telling lame jokes. camp wouldnt have been the same without him.

i remember how on the morning of the camp, i was sitting on my suitcase deciding if i should just not go. i flipped a coin and it said dont go, but i went anyway. and i have absolutely no regrets. it was one of those life-changing things. i feel sad, guilty, frustrated.. but above all, i feel like i’ve learnt something important. it’s like the magic numbers game - sometimes it can be all about angles. and like the johnny whoops game - sometimes the small details distract us from what we really need to see, which is the bigger picture.

I’m pathetic with titles

My report card for cool is out. It doesn’t look good. I considered many times bribing the person doing my assessment (myself) but I was at the same time too fierce and too timid to accept and give bribes respectively. Needless to say, I didn’t get very good grades and it’s official that I’m not cool. It’s hard to be cool with someone like her.

I’m a hirsute lion king in my territory on the grassy Savannah plains; female lionesses scattered all around for my mating disposal. I would stand tall and give occasional sturdy growls when warranted to calm the situation. And the lionesses would go back to their hunting and gossiping, er chatting, and the cubs their playing. But I get scratched by playful cubs. And I start crying. Tears slowly form a creek down my cheeks and tributaries in my oh-so-manly mane and my whiskers start to wilt from the weight of dewlike droplets. They’re all giving me the kind of nonplused look that only beasts of the wild can give. Do you blame them – who the fuck has seen a lion cry?

Ok the visualisation is stupid but we’re allowed to be once in a while .

Su Ann says a BIG hello to everyone. Her return tomorrow will put things back to normal  We will return to our usual long conversations again (free of those wicked secret agents) where she at once brews curiosity, anxiety and wonderment in me. And she ALWAYS remembers to give tender moments. In a few days I would lock my fingers in hers. And you would have back your regular refrain of cutes. This experience has been nothing less than surrealistic for me…to be blogging in a house of pink.
