with the new year just hours away (cue exclamations like, “oh, where did the year go?”), i thought i’d put up this New Year’s meme survey thingamijig that i posted on my blog last new year’s eve as well. it’s funny to see how different your answers are after one year, and it’s funny how some things dont change.

Glad to see 2006 go? :
it was a year so pregnant with possibilities and opportunities, but i let so much slip through my fingers. i would redo 2006 if i could. but the most i can do is wish it lasted longer.

18

Did you change your hair in 2006? How?:
nothing major- got bangs earlier this year, then chopped off my layers mid-year, and recently got highlights and lowlights that may as well have been nolights because they washed right off the moment i got in the shower -___-

The best part of 2006? :
bangkok the first time around, malacca first time around, getting SPM results, meeting vicnan, solitary swims at Raintree, email closure, metaphor night.

The worst part of 2006? :
one particular HK trip. penang. getting a B+ for English 101, gawd.

Any new crushes in 2006? Who? :
only one, but neither of us did anything about it. apparently cold hands and beer arent enough sometimes

Who will you never forget? :
the handicapped kids at Bethany Home, my Pump instructor, the old lady who offered me her seat on the train

Who did you wish you did not meet? :
the cabbie who sent me home on Christmas eve

Did you have a boyfriend in 2006? :
yup

Did you fall in love in 2006? :
yup

Did you catch someone in a lie in 2006? :
i’m sure i have. people lie too much.

Did you call them out? :
same answer as last year- no i didnt. i just pretended i didnt find out. not surprisingly, it’s the same person, different lie. but then again, i dont care.

Did you get caught in a lie? What was it? :
i’m sure i have been, but didnt know it. they probably pretended they didnt find out either.. :)

Funniest moment of 2006? :
that Hanoi moment when i opened the hotel door with nothing but a small tshirt on, to set the room service tray outside the door. and of course, the guy in the opposite room just HAS TO come out at that exact moment, even though it’s like 3 in the frickin’ morning. oh, the look on his face! he was so shocked he didnt even move. all i could do was laugh, remembering a bit too late that my cooch and butt were exposed. Martian was not happy :P

Most embarrassing moment of 2006? :
eh i cant think of any. either i have selective memory loss or i am just too muka tembok to feel embarassed. friends who have witnessed any of my embarassing moments this year, please do *not* feel free to leave them in the comments box. selective memory loss exists for a reason.

Did you take any vacations in 2006? Where? :
singapore, bangkok, hong kong, sri lanka, vietnam, and just got home from bali. local vacations- penang, malacca, kuantan, kuching.

Any new hobbies of 2006? :
fucking with people’s minds and patience with games like Black Magic and Magic Numbers! camwhoring on top of cars! pole dancing with the poles you find on trains!

Did you get a new job in 2006? :
hahaha YES I DID. bet you didnt know that!

Did you lose a job in 2006? :
once again, YES I DID! but i wasnt fired, like everyone thought i would be. i QUIT. *smug* but after, like, one day of work. haha.

Did you host a party in 2006? :
does my birthday thingy count?

Where did most of your money go? :
my answer last year says that three or four gourmet coffees daily was what broke my piggy bank. thankfully this year, i only need three or four gourmet coffees whenever the semester exams rolls around, which is only once every few months or so. God bless college. okay wait i’m not answering the question. i guess this year i spent most of my money on taxi fare as usual, and shoes. not my fault, because my mother keeps borrowing my shoes and ruining them. so this only means that i need more new shoes, right??? you think shoes cheap ah!

What song will always remind you of 2006? :
Dani California by RHCP and Fergilicious by Fergie, only because they are so overplayed that they ring in my ears even when i’m brushing my teeth. actually no lah, the real song of 2006 for me is The Fray - Look After You.

What do you wish you’d done more of? :
stayed home more. and dangerous things.

What do you wish you’d done less of? :
getting angry over things i cannot change

Biggest achievement in 2006? :
all those writing competitions, debates and public speaking thingies, i guess. didnt do as much stuff as i’d like, though.

Biggest failure in 2006 :
getting lead role in a play, but subsequently getting booted from the production after a month of rehearsals :(

In 2006, did you lie to miss a day of work / school? :
actually, this year has been a record year for me because i barely skipped school. i think i skipped less than 5 days in the 6 months i’ve been enrolled. very smart wan lah these college people, they take percentage off your final grade if you’re tardy or absent too often. fuckers.

Did you move in 2006? :
nope

Did you wish on a shooting star in 2006? :
didnt actually see any. i remember how i used to look at the stars all the time. nowadays i always forget to.

What was your greatest musical discovery? :
that i could play Mary Had A Little Lamb with an appetizer fork on my dining table settings

What was the best book you read? :
the one i just finished, I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell by Tucker Max. hahahaha funny shit.

What was your favourite movie of the year? :
The Prestige, Inside Man, Little Miss Sunshine. non-2006 movies that i watched this year that i really liked that i can remember that i liked : Thank You For Smoking, Serendipity, In The Mood For Love. no, i’m not going to say that i liked The Departed or The Da Vinci Code. -___-

What did you want in 2006 and got?
what Martian gave me for christmas.. hehehehe.

What did you want in 2006 but didn’t get?
a walk-in shoe closet. an awesome DSLR. a bangkok trip with the best friends. to see Damien Rice in concert.

Did you make-out in public in 2006? :
all the time. and then he will ask, is this legal? and in all my annoyance, i will then proceed to drip ice cream on his shoes.

What’s the ringer on your cellphone? :
same ol same ol Sony Ericsson default.

What kept you sane?
my pillows. no not those. the other ones.

Who did you miss?
azlan, kevin low, song jun. aira for the first half of the year cos she went to NS. jovann cos i never see him even though we’re in the same city. my boyfriend every 2 weeks. started missing robert a couple of days ago. kezanne. annjoe. jia jen. chew! and johanny, whom i still owe many, many snail mail cards.

Who was the best new person you met?
vicnan for sure. dennis. isa & sarv (you two are like one)! vin. kelvin. suet li. kiasu andrew. gary ooi! nick d.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
doing my SATs, getting my driver’s license, getting my diver’s license. this is all to be achieved within the next 6 months. er, hopefully.

nope

everything to do with DIGI. these people are smart, yo.

Something you couldn’t leave home without in 2006? :
nothing that’s different from previous years - wallet, mobile, keys, scrunchie.

How did you spend New Year’s 2006? :
you know, i swear i dont remember.

Valentines Day 2006? :
at KLCC with aira, jovann, sieutheng and ivan.. because for once, all of us were single on February 14! waimin should have been there- she was actually in between boyfriends but we didnt know!! we later got ourselves very sick with entirely too much chocolate-dipped strawberrays.

Easter 2006? :
at church!

Halloween 2006? :
took my bros out for dinner. i was a cavewoman, Tall Bro was a farmer, Short Bro was Mickey Mouse. we later proceeded to strip the entire restaurant of their Halloween decor cos they didnt mind giving it to me to use for this Halloween event i was doing at college. heehee.

Thanksgiving 2006? :
didnt have that one!

Christmas 2006? :
spent the eve of it with Martian’s friends, Martian, my family, and then his family, and then Martian again, in that order. woke up late on christmas morning, missing church and ffk-ing Jesus on his birthday big time :( went to watch Confessions of Pain at Times Sq with Martian. okay only lah, not Tony Leung’s best. Takeshi Kaneshiro was five star stellar, Shu Qi was forgettable.

Your birthday? :
the first few midnight minutes of it were spent with hock chuan, who got the waiter at Quan’s to put a birthday candle in my ice cream.. heehee! had dinner later on in the night with the best friends, drinks and partying later at 7ate9 with more friends, then went for supper at Jln Alor before crashing at the Ascott.

How do you plan to usher in the new year?
i’ve got dinner with Martian in a bit, then we’ll take it from there

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006 :
sometimes it’s better to be quiet, even if you have something to say. pride should not stand in the way of symbiosis. we should be reckless if fun is to be had. if you must trust with an open heart, dont hate yourself when things fuck up. always make time for yourself. and eat more chocolate.
