the sun is already out and exhaling its pink-tinged sighs all across the morning sky. it is too early for the sun, i think to myself as i pull the curtains aside to behold and admire. way too early; it is only about 5 in the morning, yet it is a peculiarity that i embrace. much as i bemoan the summer for its heat and entailing discomfort, sometimes i cannot help but be immensely thrilled by its silver lining of : girls in sundresses walking their dogs, a plausible excuse for ice cream, summer sales and of course, beautiful days, such as today where the sun is kind and watermelon and delightful in all of its gracious morningness.
we made a little trip out to Lamma Island today, the boy and i, and contentedly we took pleasure in the scenery, the seafood, chilled tau foo far, and the folds of each other’s company. a very quaint island village it turned out to be - many old people pottered around doing their frail thing whilst the seafood restaurants did brisk business dishing out overpriced fish to cap-wearing tourists. i must admit it wasnt the seafood (a notorious Lamma attraction) that engaged me into beseeching the boyfriend to take me there; the fancy was due to a TVB drama series (’Taste of Love’ starring Miriam Yeung and Lawrence Ng) i watched a long time ago that was filmed at Lamma Island. i had loved the series and was excited to see vestiges of this former 8pm Wah Lai Toi indulgence, but unfortunately our trip granted no familiar sights relative to the show. i wasnt disappointed however. chilled tau foo far and abundant kisses on the cheek seem to be particularly effective in taking all sad things away.
it is my last time in Hong Kong, or at least it will be for a long time to come. Martian is moving to Singapore, uprooting himself once again, and me along with him. i have but a full two days left here in this cantonese city of lilted speech and shirtless men forever fixing something, and honestly i am a bit nervous about how uneconomically i’m spending my remaining minutes here. so i took pictures of the Mid Levels escalator, a policeman, a fire hydrant, as well as a fleet of taxis waiting to pick up happy inebriated people at LKF, among many other scenes native to Hong Kong - for permanence lest my memory falters. and ordered a glass of tung lai cha just for good measure. i dont know what we are going to do today, but i hope it is something irrevocably and dreadfully local.
i sat on the ledge in the guestroom just now, that was where i admired the dawn before i came here to blog about aforementioned admired dawn. i remember a time when i sat there and he asked me, do you hear that sound? what sound, i asked. that dididididiiddid sound, he imitated. it is the sound of the traffic lights, he explained, the most ubiquitous sound in Hong Kong.
so today i sat there and listened to that most ubiqituous sound again, properly, on that ledge, in this apartment, as the love of my life slept peacefully in the next room. the telltale blue screen of an unfinished DVD flickered in the living room, patient and endearing. i wonder what the most ubiquitous sound in Singapore is.

Mmmm…
I decided to define ubiqituous on Google… yes, my vocabulary is extremely dense :P. Bah! I’m a mathematician, not a literacy professor.
Anyways, for everyone else confused about the meaning of this yet unpronounceable word (for me at least), Google gives the following:
define:ubiqituous
(Adj) “Anywhere at any time”
widely present.
omnipresent: being present everywhere at once
So I guess, being born in Singapore, I must say, the most ubiquitous sound is…. the traffic!! :D
Tho, that was 16 odd years ago… I haven’t been back for a long time!

I was busy trying to figure out earlier why your blog has become one of my favorite personal blogs. While thinking about it earlier, I really struggled to put down a reason as to what traits made your blog unique. However, this post cleared it up for me.
First, you’ve become one of my favorite bloggers because you are undoubtedly one of the most upbeat and sincere bloggers around. Its not that you don’t suffer from doubts and difficulties, but that you always have the most positive spin on everything.
Second, I love the fact that you are just as nostalgic about everything as I am. You have a great ability to realize change is coming and always remember to enjoy everything while it lasts. That is a lesson I wish more young people like us would learn.
Finally, you are really great at drawing the reader into your life. Your writing style allows readers to feel that they know you, that they understand what motivates you. As a reader, I can’t help but feel that if we ever met, you would be the type of person that I would like as a friend.
Keep it up Su Ann. You are more amazing then you know.

1. just when i congratulated u on ur new-found status as a 1-yr-old martienne, u’re gonna leave mars?? ah… but at least he’ll be nearer to home (and to u!) now :) even tho i didn’t stay for as long as i’d like to in hk, hk felt so much like home. funny how now tht i’m back in aus, i’m actually homesick– for hk! so i supposed u’d feel 100 times worse leaving hk, esp having to leave all the wonderful footprints of u and ur bf behind… i’m still blogging about hk now, so whenever u feel like a piece of hk, feel free to swing over to my site and grab any pics tht perhaps might bring back happy times for u :)
2. ditto to watever jeff from LA wrote *hats off to u*
3. u actually watch tvb series??!! hahaha u dun strike me as the kind of person who’d be into it! :>

I had a freaking weird dream about you last night, can’t really remember exactly how it goes but it went something like this
I think you were emoing or something and I invited you to sleep over at my place and you agreed and went to my room to rest but then I went to play dota or did something else and totally forgotten you were over at my place and slept off doing whatever I was doing.
Then I woke up in the morning, I was like shit! Su Ann is sleeping in my room and I’m like nooo I missed my chance to sleep with Ah Pau =( haha then I quickly went home and found you were gone and then I found a lot of voice messages that you left on my phone and the first one is like, when are you coming homeee, I waited for you for so long and then after each mssg it got more emo and emo till you were crying.
Sighh..Ah Pau, I know you need me, but you don’t have to cry for me to come to bed with you ahahaha
See ya when you’re back

I went to the University of Southern California for law school and I love their school spirit. The common saying is that “you’re a Trojan for life,” i.e. you always feel a bond with every other person that went to the school.
The university is pretty decently ranked in the US, 27th in the US and 54th in the world in the Shanghai Jiao Tong World Rankings. The school is particularly strong in the areas of law, architecture, cinema, communication, and business.
There are a lot of clubs, service groups, and other activities on campus. There is a significant percentage of Asians, and a very diverse student body. We have undergrad and grad students that come from over 100 nations.
Finally, LA is the place to be if you’re Asian. We have great weather, i.e. 80 degrees Fahrenheit all year round. We have great beaches, a diverse culture, and amazing restaurants with cuisine from many different countries.
Anyway, if you’re primarily considering schools based on prestige, the most authoritative source for college rankings is the U.S. News and World Report College Rankings.
