Hamsapness and Halloween
November 1st, 2007
i hope everyone had a good Halloween! i spent mine doing absolutely nothing related to pumpkins or black cats - in other words, giving a talk to high school students on the pursuit of an American college education in the morning, and then studying for my own pursuit of said American college education later on in the evening. no costume parties or dressing up for dinner this year unlike the last; just a lot of coffee and agitation and trigonometry. the only remotely celebratory thing i did was buy myself a cone of strawberry cheesecake ice cream, but even that was eaten in much haste because i felt guilty for spending 10 minutes not studying =(
damn stress lah i really hate trigonometry.
nevertheless, i had a little bit of pseudo-Halloweenity sometime last week during the HAMSAP party @ Palate Palette. the theme was Naughty or Nice But Nothing In Between. haha! i wanted to go as a Barbie doll, but blonde wigs are just so ridiculously expensive. so i went as an angel. ya i know, ho hum. i’m using up all my angel wing credits, aren’t i!

i’ve actually got another chance at Halloweening this Saturday, what with another costume party up and all, but i’m just fresh out of things to wear. no same costume should be worn twice, and i already broke that rule with the angel outfit. sigh, looks like some employment of creativity is in order. but i still really want to go as a Barbie doll =(
oh and hello dad. stop reading my blog!!! there’s an unspoken rule that fathers shalt not trespass upon the writings and ramblings of their teenage daughters. seriously ah, dont make me post up all your embarrassing photos of your bellbottomed, fluffy-haired days -___-

Giving talks to HS students about your pursuit of an American education? I’m surprised they would have you speak before you actually had a chance to start your American education. But I’m guessing they only had you speak on the application process itself. I’m sure that process (of applying to study in the US) must be grueling and even more stressful.
You should do a post one day on what the process of applying to a US college is like.* I’ve always been interested in what it is like to apply to a foreign country for school, since it is so uncommon for US students to do it.
(Some people might wonder why I said college instead of “university.” It is because in the U.S., the two terms are interchangeable, and in fact, you should always use the term college instead (e.g. where did you go for college?). If you actually went to a 2-year college instead of a university, you would instead say that you went to a “community college” instead of “college.”)

just like you, your mummy was always more liberated than most young ladies of her time. it is all in the genes, bet you carry the same blueprint! now you know why mummy is ‘permissive’.=p btw, she was posing on the roof top of a double storey shop-house. she likes to spend a lot time walking & running nimbly on rooftops which gives her a sense of freedom and privacy! she doesn’t even need your pair of angel’s wings..hahahaha..can you top this? :)

UCLA????? No, I went to USC. (Warning: UCLA insults to follow) You shouldn’t go to a cheap state school like UCLA, you get what you pay for with UCLA. Also, you’re only a (UCLA) Bruin for 4 years, but you’re a (USC) Trojan for life.
I’m just joking around, but USC and UCLA have a heated rivalry going. We both insult the other school and its students as much as possible.
UCLA is a really good school though. However, if you’re talking about academic reputation, Berkeley is definitely better. If I were you, I’d definitely go to Berkeley over UCLA if I got into both.
