These Things In Point-Form
January 28th, 2008
at the Youth 08 q&a the other day, us 4 bloggers were asked among other questions how we find so much stuff to blog about. my answer was that there is so much going on in our world and within yourself that it’s impossible not to find inspiration everywhere you go. if i had all the time in the world, i’d probably be blogging every few hours (which i used to do, if anyone remembers my pinkskyes blog from the 2001-2005 days!). but alas there are time constraints :) yet there truly is so much to blog about and share.
some things in point form:
- i find that in all 19 years and 3 months of my life, i tend to do ridiculously stupid things when i am in sleepy stupor. this month seems to be exceptionally pregnant with such stupid things. a lot of the time and when already knee-deep in aforementioned things, i get this naggy feeling at the back of my mind going, ’stop it! stop it! sleep on this before you do anything!!’, but in the fire and zeal of sleepiness, anger and any other peripheral emotion i am feeling, i always forge ahead and do it, bravely telling myself that the courageous and principled don’t sleep on their next step of action. apparently neither do the foolish. siiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. lesson learned. next time i’m going to allow myself 12 hours of defusing time or sleep before i do anything this reckless.
- there was a bus crash last Friday. it was KL-bound from Penang, and driven by YET ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE MONSTERS who have scores of summons against them but still want to drive buses and put the lives of so many people in danger. apparently this particular bus driver was speeding and SMSing in the heavy rain. SMSing!!! this crash is hitting a little bit closer to home because Jolene’s friend was one of the 3 who passed away, and Waffle’s cousin was very badly injured. this is so unbelievable. why don’t these people learn? did last year’s slew of bus crashes not teach anyone anything? resign if you’re not doing your job right. your carelessness has cost lives. i saw the facebook group dedicated to Jolene’s friend Nian Ning - she sounds like an absolutely amazing girl. straight a’s for UPSR, PMR, SPM, was in medical school, a debater and public speaker, gorgeous. and so very young. everything seems so small when you think about how a young life has just been taken away and the kind of grief her friends, family and boyfriend must be going through. Jolene’s call of action against the bus company Konsortium and the bus driver can be found here.
- i went back to my high school today for yet another round of the filling-out of college application forms. my counselor wasn’t in her office, so i let myself in. there were two little girls in there, and i asked one of them if she was my counselor’s daughter. she said yes. so i asked the other girl if they were sisters, and she piped up with, ‘No, we are best friends!’. so simple and so innocently straightforward. i used to say things like that when i was a kid. it was so nice being a kid.. ignorance really is bliss sometimes. nowadays i say things and wonder a few hours later if what i said was the right thing. and then i obsess about it. and then i get stressed and emo to wong wenqi wtf.
- Sweeney Todd is an amazing movie. bring a paper bag with you when watching Cloverfield. i cant wait for The Lovely Bones and The Time Traveler’s Wife to be out!!!
- i got google searches for romantic Vday restaurants as early as December :P so if you have yet to pick a restaurant for your Valentine’s Day dinner, i’ve got a review list of 10 restaurants that i wrote last year, that you can choose from. Part 1, Part 2. i’ve got another 5 cozy and romantic restaurants that i may write about sometime soon if i feel like it :)
- aira was telling me the other day how a young biology teacher that we had in high school used to talk to her about me. she told aira that i reminded her of herself during her younger troublemaker days, but the difference was that i had friends and she didnt. sigh i really am very lucky to have my friends, because they are the coolest and best friends you will ever find. high school was what it was because of them. even to this day, they empathize with everything that i feel and never once tell me that the problems i face are small and petty. and they help me through these things so diligently and kindly. sigh. sometimes i dont know how i deserve the friends that i have. /emo. jovann stop watching tv and come and hang out with us sometimes!!!
- i will find it in myself to not be so angry. i will find it in myself to not be so sulky. i will find it in myself to not worry so much. i will find it in myself to be hopeful, optimistic, forgiving and happy. and i will find it in myself to sleep on things before i take drastic actions. and most of all, i will find it in myself to not regret the things i do, and to learn from them.
- God is good.
- AND!!! the notorious Part 3 of the Lingam Video is out!!! mosey over here for the video and the transcript of the conversation :P

Nian Ning has friends everywhere, it seems. I personally know two of them here - and both have grieved over the terrible murders. I won’t call it an accident.
I did always wonder how people can complain about having nothing to write about. They probably aren’t looking hard enough. Or maybe, have not tried living enough.

Oh gosh..totally agree with you on the paper bag. Thank God I’m not the only one. My friend thought I was a total pansy for being carsick at the end of it

i mentioned the ignorance is bliss thing just the other day, but it was about the government.
i watched sweeney todd too! err… like an hour ago actually. im still digesting it. having mixed feelings rite now. but i just love johnny depp soooo much!
8. Tim | January 28th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
- Did you just use pregnant as an adjective. I haven’t heard that very often.
- I’ve been on enough bus trips to know the problem is prevalent throughout nearly all the bus companies. Change has to come from the top through enforcement, but first we need to make sure the top knows we’re f***ing pissed.

I have been a reader of quaintly.net for quite a while now, and never would i imagine having to read about Ning, passed away and crash all in the same sentence here.
We were college mates in Sunway College (Australian Matriculation) where we went for classes every morning together, spent our breaks together and became close friends.
She was determined to make it into a medical school in Australia as a government scholar and she worked HARD and got a spot in UNSW and i got a spot in a uni in Sydney as well. Sadly she only completed year One of medical school :(
A beautiful person inside and out, intelligent, talented, caring, kind, and i could go on.
RIP Ning, you will be sorely missed.

Sweeney Todd is so awesomely brilliant!!!
Johnny Depp’s singing voice just lulls you to…. places. mmm~
I do believe this is the first time I’m commenting, but I’ve been following your blog for quite some time now. A few months actually. I suppose I’ll take this opportunity to tell you how much I do enjoy your posts, ramblings, musings, college application whines too.. :P, political rants, FOOD REVIEWS, photos.. everything you post really!
A blogger will never stop blogging.
Because bloggers are writers, and writers never stop finding inspiration even in the darkest places.
So thank you for sharing. It’s always nice reading one of your posts and knowing that someone, being you, shares my (and I’m sure other readers’ too) thoughts. :)

Holly molly, they’re making “Time Traveler’s Wife” in movie??

18. pinkpau | January 29th, 2008 at 4:14 am
skyler : are you going to start bugging the nuffnang interns for ads now :(
cindyluv : oh. looks are very deceiving then :P hell hath no fury like pinkpau scorned hahaha
k0k : it’s still very shocking to me. i cant imagine what i’d feel if i lost a friend the way all these people lost nian ning. my heart goes out to them.
sarah : i puked :\
wenqi : tell firdauz dont always turn the aircon up so high!
amy : several parts of sweeney todd would have been very awkward if the movie starred anyone but johnny depp and helena bonham carter :) they make a beautifully eccentric pair. very believable for this sort of movie. i hope to see tim burton helm a harry potter movie one day
tim : waffle you dont take buses down to kl anymore okay. drive down with stewie or something
pinkshirtz : i love your comments cos they say that you love my posts :D
eley : YES THEY ARE :) with my all time favourite girl Rachel Mcadams playing Clare. Eric Bana playing Henry was a bit unexpected but i’m very excited to see what he will bring to the table
reallybites : hahaha what lah you. ya nian ning seems like a very popular girl; everyone seems connected to her in some way. it’s damn sad that someone who’s touched so many lives had to pass away just because some disgusting bus driver couldnt do his job properly
k0k : twas an edit :) yes i cant wait to watch juno. dont know if it will show in KL tho
snape : you just what? :P
malvin : thank you for this insight on nian ning. i am so sorry for your loss. she sounds like a beautiful girl both on the inside and out. you are very lucky to have known her :)
LJY : and thank you for finally commenting :D yeah not many food reviews lately.. but there are a few coming up!! :P i’ve just been too lazy to pick the pictures. i echo what you say about bloggers and writers :)
wan siong : yes :) it’s one of my favourite books of all time
therealanon : eh i nochet email you meh!!!

Lol, Skyler, I hope you were making fun of all the commenters that go FIRST!!!11!!, otherwise you should be ashamed of yourself.
Pinkpau, the news of the SMS-ing bus driver causing an accident is so sad. I hope that lawsuit brings the bus company to its knees for allowing such rampant negligence in its drivers. Now I’m nervous about taking the buses in Malaysia if I ever visit.
Oh and Pinkpau, don’t be so sad/mad. You have great friends, a bf that adores you, and a devoted fanbase. You should take comfort in that.
20. sheon | January 29th, 2008 at 9:09 am
my heart sank when i saw the NN’s death on the papers. my deepest condolences. i personally lost a few friends over the years. their smiles are still in my heart until today.
sigh…gonna celebrate valentines alone for the fourth straight years……..and to make this extra special…gonna add 2 eggs and a sausage to my maggi mee this time.

Hello fellow angtsy person (as you have surpassed the teenage years). When you are feeling crappy think of bright skies and colourful flowers. :D
22. Michelle | January 29th, 2008 at 9:46 am
I used to say that ‘best friends’ word too, thinking that those who talk to me are my best friends.
But now, being eighteen, made me realise that I change and around me change. I barely can tell who is actually sincere.
*sigh*
23. Waifon | January 29th, 2008 at 11:29 am

25. iamthewitch | January 29th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
I’ve said this before and i’ll say it again… I’m impressed with the way you put thoughts into words. It is definitely a gift that not many people have. Continue doing the good job and I never doubt that you will ALWAYS have inspiration to write. :)
26. tom | January 29th, 2008 at 4:37 pm

28. foreverjas | January 29th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
how bad is cloverfield??? @.@
29. TheRealAnonymous | January 30th, 2008 at 1:18 am
no… you have not… and i have been waiting ever since… =(
*sob sob*
30. Jonathan | January 30th, 2008 at 8:43 am
foreverjas : i personally dont think cloverfield is bad, or does ann thinks that its bad, because the throwing up expression in this scenario doesn’t seem like a good analogy for a bad movie. It could just be the shaky camera technique they used, makes you feel nausea.
To learn in Australia that somehow the bus incident happened sickens almost all of us. Nian Ning’s boyfriend was a close friend of my friend, and knowing that chump, he’s got to be going through a tough time. Who wouldn’t, but some people have it more than others.
You can probably create a new label for all the things you do when sleepiness kicks in. It’ll be a good read, simple point form that wouldn’t take much of your time
BY the way, i just came back from Melbourne, to KL. I have a few tim tams and a packet of pods with me, are you lips drooling for them?
31. Jayelle | January 30th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
thank you Su Ann for putting it up.
everyone else: here’s the petition at buscrashnomore.blogspot.com
thanks everyone..

EEK! :)
33. pinkpau | January 30th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
jeff : actually, crashes like this happen all the time. late last year, such cases were particularly numerous. but i suppose the action taken isnt very effective because these accidents are still happening. oh and thank u for reminding me of what really matters :) sigh. i need a big smack on the head sometimes.
sheon : have you ever tried maggi with a slice of cheese plopped on top :P
michelle : and i will think of your cute pencil case too!
michelle : that’s true :\ but we also learn to suss out the sincere from the insincere as we grow :)
waifon : yes we have a history longer than with albert!!! :D hahaha yalar lingam.. hailat then hailat lah summore want to avoid! YES PLS I WANT JUNO!
iamthewitch : thank you for your kind praise :) i just write what i feel i need to.
tom : will write it if i have the time :) you can check out the other two for now!

therealanon : hahaha aiyo aiyo how could i be so bad! okay i send to you.. sooon… haha
jon : ya it was the nausea. but even sans nausea, i dont think it was that great a movie. hahaha NO i wouldnt embarrass myself by writing about the stupid things i do in sleepy stupor. YES I WOULD LOVE PODS :D
jayelle : you are most welcome :)
fuhan : eek what eek!
