what would you do with a million dollars?
i would spend it on my friends and family.
but because i’m so lazy, i’d buy all their stuff online and then get everything delivered right to their doorstep :P
i shamefully admit that i’ve never used eBay in my life and I don’t know how to :( but i do know how to use MUDAH.com.my because it’s damn easy!!! it’s like a Malaysian cyber marketplace where you can buy and sell stuff; very simple to use and extremely fuss-free. so forget hunting down people and beating traffic jams to get to the malls, MUDAH.com.my is where I’ll buy all my presents when I have a million dollars :P

for Martian, a healthy salad shop (RM 48,000)! there is no bigger health food lover than my boyfriend. sigh. maybe if i bought him a whole salad shop, he would get sick of the health food and then we can go out and eat PROPER FOOD! like McDonalds.

for myself, a Toy Poodle puppy!!! (RM 800) toy poodles are so cute *tears* I only wish Mudah.com.my had a Milo Dog for sale.
and for Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, a Mini Spy-Camera Detector!!! it blinks when there are recording devices around, so you will never be caught with your pants down again :P for only RM88!
MUDAH.com.my is seriously so freaking easy to use - i am very satisfied with my million dollar browsing! i may even consider selling some of my dresses and bags there one day. but for now, let’s all just wait for my RM 1 million to be earned so that I can buy everyone gifts :)
p/s: if anyone has cute mugs, vintage clothes or books in good condition, do put them up on Mudah.com.my!! i’m looking for stuff like that. am also looking for quirky decor items for my room at Martian’s. so go go go! do put up some of your stuff for sale, then let me know :)

Aiyah, the kari mee looks so delicious lah!!! SO-oooooo one of the things I miss about home. The food, glorious food. Nowhere beats Malaysian foodlah! Absolutely no-freaking-where!
Ppl, remember that when you consider moving away from home - the food seems like a minor thing, but it is a BIG adjustment to make.
PS - What IS a Milo Dog? Can you direct me to a picture of it? I am intrigued.

jeff from la : i think as long as you believe in the product and you can write about it in a way that is interesting, it’s a good thing. kenny’s advertorials are quite fun to read :) the bad advertorials are those that are written without any thought or substance, but just put up anyway for the sake of a quick buck. i know what over-commercialized is, and i also know how to avoid it :) but thank you for your concern jeff!

Cool. I agree that the key is moderation and keeping it interesting. Another alternative is to label your commercial posts (just like you label your emo posts) so that readers know how to differentiate the two. I’m glad you agree that over-commercialization is an issue and are willing to address it.
I also appreciate that you’re willing to address the concerns of your readers. That’s what separates you from all the other bloggers.
To be clear, the reason I brought up commercialization in posts is not because I am against commercialization per se. I believe you have every right to earn money from your intellectual property and your hard work posting for the blog, compiling your ideas, and sharing your personal experiences.
The problem with over-commercialization is that the main reason to read a personal blog is the feeling of a connection with the author of the blog, a belief that the blogger is willing to share his or her ideas, his or her genuine feelings and experiences with the reader. As the blogger begins to receive more and more opportunities to post on behalf of sponsors, the reader begins to wonder how genuine and open are the bloggers’ reactions to products or places or restaurants. It is at the moment that readers begin having to always guess when a post is solely from the blogger versus when it exists because of a sponsor’s input, then what was once a personal blog has become an impersonal and commercial blog, no different than any other commercial website.
Plus I didn’t really intend to single out Kenny, there are many other bloggers who are far more commercialized than him.

jeff : you can rest assured i dont take up advertorials unless i like the product :) as for that point about how you have to guess which posts are from the blogger and which are sponsored, i can tell you that every single post on my blog is straight from me; whether or not i am being paid for it is irrelevant because at the end of the day it is still my opinion and my words and my intellectual property. i am quite miffed that there are people who tell bloggers they are sellouts simply because they do advertorials. funny, i dont see them complaining when bloggers write good food reviews or suggest good products on their blog. i dont know what exactly is the basis behind their annoyance if the content of the blog is the same and these advertorials are essentially still product reviews like all the other unpaid product reviews that people love so to read. i dont have many advertorials on my blog and that is intentional - i am picky with my offers and for good reason. the ones i DO take are written 100% pinkpau style. i hope you respect that :)

Ok, Pinkpau, don’t be mad (even if I know that you should be mad at me). I believe you. You have always been honest and sincere and I know you know when to draw the line. I may not be your longest reader, but I have tried my best to be a loyal reader for as long as I have been following your blog.
Anyway, to address your points:
1. No, I wasn’t just randomly making up an abstract hypothetical problem. There are at least 4 or 5 Malay/Singapore blogs that I no longer read because they became over-commercialized. (I’m not going to mention their names because its probably unfair to single them out on a public forum but I could tell you them if you wanted.) Since I really really love reading your blog I was a bit nervous because I was a little nervous that it might happen to your blog as well.
2. Also, a product review by someone without a financial interest versus one with a financial interest is very different. Let’s say I told you I loved my Canon digital camera and told you why I loved the camera and you knew I wasn’t getting paid anything to say that. You would probably pay more attention to my praise of the camera than if you knew that Canon paid me to praise it or gave me the camera for free, right? That is true even if I liked the camera already before I got paid to review it, you would still treat the advice differently.
Anyway, I’ll stop bringing up further points now because I believe everything you said. I shouldn’t even have addressed those two, but I’m a lawyer, I’m sorry, I can’t help it. I’m terrible, I know. Oh well, if you ever need legal advice in America (such as if you start a business), I probably owe you some free advice, lol.
The most important thing is, this is your blog and despite any concerns I might have as a reader, you should feel free to do whatever you want with your blog. I’m just a beneficiary of your excellent writing and hard work.
