All These Unexpected Things
i spent the afternoon at the police station making a police report, because my bag just got snatched today.
yes, it finally happened to me :\ Martian, my parents and my friends always nag me about my safety because i spend so much time outdoors, taking cabs alone and trawling the streets of Kuala Lumpur (haha), plus these snatch theft cases happen to just about everyone these days. it’s like every other week you hear of someone you know getting robbed. well, i guess this week it’s me.
among other things, my wallet, camera and mobile phone were in my bag. i’m trying to keep happy by telling myself that it could have been worse - my laptop could have been taken instead! if that happened i would have just died. but i can’t help feeling upset about all the phone numbers i lost. and a lot of the things in my bag had sentimental value - my wallet was a gift from Azlan, my mobile phone from Martian, and the bag itself a birthday gift from my best friends.
sigh.
my whole family spent the afternoon separately at two different police stations - my dad was with me, while my mom was at a different station with my brothers lodging another report because… my younger brother’s phone was snatched two days ago. yup, two snatch thefts in my family within the weekend. my brother’s case was scarier than mine though; two guys actually grabbed hold of his arms while another snatched his phone from his hand. and this happened outside his school (my former high school), so all Sri Gardeners, please be careful from now on ok?
the fact that such rampant crime exists in our country is testament to how much our government needs to step up and shape up. Barisan Nasional, you have a responsibility to keep your citizens safe and well. i hope the loss of your two-thirds majority yesterday is a wake-up call strong enough to make you finally see that the rakyat were not content with your leadership and governance, and that we know we deserve better. you have a new mandate - please don’t exploit this again.
congratulations to the Opposition, especially PKR who jumped from only 1 seat in Parliament last term to an AMAZING 31 seats this term. you all have worked so hard and braved all odds; you truly deserve all the 82 seats won. but the Opposition has a lot to prove now. i hope you can all work together well and deliver all the promises you made to the country. please don’t let us down :)
to all voters and all Malaysians, i can’t even begin to articulate how proud i am of you and the country. when i woke up this morning, i thought i’d dreamed up all of yesterday. wasn’t it such an emotional night yesterday as the elections results trickled in slowly? did you whoop for joy at 4 a.m when it was confirmed that Barisan Nasional had lost their 2/3 majority in parliament? change is coming, fellow Malaysians :) and we were all part of it in some way or another. i can’t wait to see what is in store for the nation; here’s to a good, safe, healthy, happy future for all of us :)
