All These Unexpected Things
March 9th, 2008
i spent the afternoon at the police station making a police report, because my bag just got snatched today.
yes, it finally happened to me :\ Martian, my parents and my friends always nag me about my safety because i spend so much time outdoors, taking cabs alone and trawling the streets of Kuala Lumpur (haha), plus these snatch theft cases happen to just about everyone these days. it’s like every other week you hear of someone you know getting robbed. well, i guess this week it’s me.
among other things, my wallet, camera and mobile phone were in my bag. i’m trying to keep happy by telling myself that it could have been worse – my laptop could have been taken instead! if that happened i would have just died. but i can’t help feeling upset about all the phone numbers i lost. and a lot of the things in my bag had sentimental value – my wallet was a gift from Azlan, my mobile phone from Martian, and the bag itself a birthday gift from my best friends.
sigh.
my whole family spent the afternoon separately at two different police stations – my dad was with me, while my mom was at a different station with my brothers lodging another report because… my younger brother’s phone was snatched two days ago. yup, two snatch thefts in my family within the weekend. my brother’s case was scarier than mine though; two guys actually grabbed hold of his arms while another snatched his phone from his hand. and this happened outside his school (my former high school), so all Sri Gardeners, please be careful from now on ok?
the fact that such rampant crime exists in our country is testament to how much our government needs to step up and shape up. Barisan Nasional, you have a responsibility to keep your citizens safe and well. i hope the loss of your two-thirds majority yesterday is a wake-up call strong enough to make you finally see that the rakyat were not content with your leadership and governance, and that we know we deserve better. you have a new mandate – please don’t exploit this again.
congratulations to the Opposition, especially PKR who jumped from only 1 seat in Parliament last term to an AMAZING 31 seats this term. you all have worked so hard and braved all odds; you truly deserve all the 82 seats won. but the Opposition has a lot to prove now. i hope you can all work together well and deliver all the promises you made to the country. please don’t let us down :)
to all voters and all Malaysians, i can’t even begin to articulate how proud i am of you and the country. when i woke up this morning, i thought i’d dreamed up all of yesterday. wasn’t it such an emotional night yesterday as the elections results trickled in slowly? did you whoop for joy at 4 a.m when it was confirmed that Barisan Nasional had lost their 2/3 majority in parliament? change is coming, fellow Malaysians :) and we were all part of it in some way or another. i can’t wait to see what is in store for the nation; here’s to a good, safe, healthy, happy future for all of us :)

ohh, take care nowadays the security in m’sia is getting worse.
i’m in kedah which is now PAS’s leader is becoming the new MB.
I can’t say I’m happy, because I do not know what will happen to Kedah and the non bumis. I hope they will be positive changes, not negative ones. And those BN start to do sth and be aware.
But yea, I’m quite happy BN lost their 2/3 majority in parliament. And it shows that Malaysian do have their choice to determined what’s good for the country.
2. george | March 9th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
second!
sorry to hear that happened to you, but yeah, things could’ve been worse
/hugs
3. Lalita | March 9th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Hey, sorry to hear about your bag. But at least YOU are safe, right? I hate thiefs – go out and work for your own money to buy your own bag and phone lah! Aiyah, seriously man.
Anyway, where can I go to get non-biased election news? I am SO happy with the results. It’s the start of a new era I hope. Serves all those bigwigs who lost their seats right. Don’t take voters for granted.
4. Rita | March 9th, 2008 at 9:03 pm

6. cindy | March 9th, 2008 at 9:20 pm

7. cyan | March 9th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Hmmm, seems like all this cases getting more and more now, sigh. Hope that it change soon.
Maybe you should burn some firecrackers to celebrate but then again celebrate modestly and ask I recalled isnt it burning firecracker is illegal in Malaysia?
8. scott | March 9th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Oh that sucks, Su Ann. Did someone just grab it off your arm and run?
9. Capablanca | March 9th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
I stay up until 4 last night just to hear that BN was denied 2/3 majority. ^______^ But because of that, I woke up late and all the newspapers were sold out by then.
10. clem | March 9th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
that’s awfully scary when you hear so many.. thefts and robberies occurring in a span of 2 weeks. my dad was recently robbed at parang-point, and another friend had an unfortunate run-in with snatch thieves.
it’s so common that it’s really scary.
sorry for your loss su ann.. i know if i were to lose my stuffs to thieves/robbers, i’d mope around for a few days.
11. Emily | March 9th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
Hmm.i ALMOST experienced that too when i was walking down Jalan Batai near HELP coll.
too bad(luckily) the snatch thief wasn’t hard/strong/fast enough to grab my bag :P
12. chm | March 9th, 2008 at 9:54 pm

13. eunice | March 9th, 2008 at 10:10 pm

I’m glad nothing happen to you during the incident.
19. Leonidas | March 9th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
Madness?! This is MALAYSIAN ELECTIONS 2008!
sad to hear you becoming a victim of snatch theft. At least they let u off. Once outside my house in SPARTA, a motorcyclist clonked a woman with his helmet and took her stuff. She was bleeding profusely and my mom and I had to take her to the hospital. Should learn from that gutsy grandma who beat the crap out of the snatch theft few days ago. That’s a real Spartan there.
20. tuansiew | March 9th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Careful dear, remember to keep your cash separately in case anything happen again. Sigh~
21. Leonidas | March 9th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
typo: snatch thief*. Here’s the link http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/3/6/nation/20554434&sec=nation
Ok flexing time.
22. wa | March 9th, 2008 at 11:27 pm

23. entwined | March 9th, 2008 at 11:33 pm

24. tom | March 9th, 2008 at 11:34 pm

25. martian | March 9th, 2008 at 11:43 pm

26. huiting | March 9th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
my mom got snatched the day before Vday right outside of my house… =( But she got her wallet back but the bag gone… :( Asn the polices were standing looking for “targets” alongside of the road few days ago -__- they can at least do something to track down the robbers… *so geram ok…
27. flizzardo | March 9th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
aww that is unforunate for you but this is what happen if the opposition wins big
crime rate goes up and chaos everywhere. I believe all those who did not vote for BN have regretted with their action but the damage has been done and we all know what to do in the next 4 years.
28. nyrac | March 10th, 2008 at 12:03 am
well i guess we can be thankful that they didn’t cut you or something. take care pinkpau =) and since you didn’t blog about it in geram-ness i guess the police did handle your case fairly well ^^
29. kimberlycun | March 10th, 2008 at 12:16 am
thank goodness you’re alright. yeah it was a great night.
30. lynndhia | March 10th, 2008 at 12:19 am
geez
babe, thank god you’re not physically hurt, just do take care.
It’s so frustrating how we have to watch our backs wherever we go, the government should not even allow their citizens to live in fear in the first damn place.
well hopefully the new ruling party will make a change. we voted for a change, we made it happen, now we wait to see what happens
31. reallybites | March 10th, 2008 at 12:30 am
are there any home made videos in your phone?!?! :P
how did it happen? glad you’re alright =)
32. sweatlee | March 10th, 2008 at 12:34 am
omg i hope you’re ok baby! i don’t want to go back msia la damn scared! scared kena raped scared bag kena snatched scared ppl hijack my car when i’m driving scared i get fat haih live in fear forever
33. sheon | March 10th, 2008 at 1:11 am
i’m just glad you are alright from the horrible incident….however, frankly…dont put your hopes too high on our ever efficient uniformed units………..just try to be extra careful next time….
i want to send my love and appreciation to you, and all other bloggers and netizens in making this epic battle against the tyranny of bn a success. i am sure, the cyberspace has made all the differences.
i woke up 9th march…….with a new hope,…..the kind of hope that is foreign to me…….and now….this hope is in all of us. for once, i feel ……like a full fledged citizen of malaysia……… thanks to the overwhelming success of the peoples’ power. despite all odds.
we showed all that we, people from all races and religions…can unite as one to bring down ‘evil’.
congratulations malaysia………..a new hope for all of us.
34. pegsywegsy | March 10th, 2008 at 1:25 am
good to hear that you are alright!
do take care and sometimes its ok to be a bit paranoid instead of being a victim. ive learn to never take it for granted. and no i havent been a victim of snatch thefts but all these reports are scaring the hell out of me.
hopefully with new political ruling means better security and of course a brighter future for malaysia :)
35. alea | March 10th, 2008 at 1:28 am
T________T
how did it happened? a motorcycle/perosn just came to you and snatched? omg at least you’re okay.
My mom too nearly had snatch thief incident before. He was on a motorcycle and the person managed to grab my mom’s bag but thank god the car door was opened so his hand hit the door causing him to let go of the bag T-T
36. Tricia | March 10th, 2008 at 1:52 am
Pinkpau, I am sorry to hear that happened to you and your bro…Few months back, my mom’s handbag was snatched too..so i know how was it feel like..Thank God they did not injure you..
37. hui wen | March 10th, 2008 at 2:51 am
Haha, my sister commented what I wanted to say– my mom got snatched right outside of my house recently. The most infuriating and disturbing thing is that it happened RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. I hate the fact that I can’t even feel safe in my own home now. Which is why, I am the happiest thing ever with the election results! The feeling of Malaysians coming together, it’s just heart-warming! :)
And oh ya, I was one of those refreshing and refreshing, and let out whoop of joy at 4am when it was confirmed that BN was denied their 2/3 majority! :P
38. Simon Seow | March 10th, 2008 at 3:27 am
So sorry to hear that. I thought the security is better now in SSG?
Yupe. A New Dawn awaits us tomorrow. Let’s us observe whether the Barisan Rakyat will deliver their promises or not in the coming 4-5 years.
39. pinkpau | March 10th, 2008 at 4:01 am
grace : all the best to you and kedah :) i really do hope the opposition will keep and deliver on all the promises
george : yeah, i coulda had an autographed Secondhand Serenade CD in there :\
lalita : malaysiakini.com, my dear :) but you need to pay an annual fee for that one. quite a small fee with conversion :)
rita : no i dont!! O___O have we met! please tell me who you are!
skyler : yeah i’m so paranoid now =(
cindy : yes it didnt sink in until much later that i should be thankful for being unharmed :P my first thought was just to .. cry. hahaha. yes wasnt it a wonderful morning!
cyan : yes must celebrate modestly lor :)
scott : yup, but they get away on motorbikes. happens all the time here in Malaysia :\
capablanca : oh how unfortunate!! my boyfriend was saying how he never enjoyed reading the newspapers as much as he did today. haha.
clem : omg your poor dad :( :( thank you for your well wishes clem :) i’m surprisingly unbitter about the loss of my stuff.. i guess optimism works well sometimes!
emily : you are like SO lucky!
chm : you live near sri garden? seriously?! hahaha that’s like our ‘hood!
eunice : i REALLY wish i had thought of that paper thing…. :( why do you not like PKR? mm the public will probably take some time to warm up to them. but you must admit that jumping from 1 seat to 29 is VERY VERY impressive :)
tze : Make Chinese Angry hehehehe
suanie : thank you :( eh actually what is the right response to ’sorry to hear’? thank you sounds weird
gnomefan : thank you :) hit you back i shall
michael : boo snatch thieves!!!
KY : that was seriously the last thought on my mind. all i wanted to do was cry. then was thankful that they didnt take my laptop. then bemoan the loss of my stuff :\
leonidas : i bet that grandma has dined in hell a few times
tuansiew : it’s not the cash it’s the phoneeeeee and the wallettttt and the bagggggg and the cameraaaa :( sentimental value!!
wa : let’s all hope so :)
entwined : yes :((( /emo
tom : whee, malaysia! :)
martian : yes together with a dog named Nemo and nice kacang ^___^
huiting : oh noes your poor mom :( eh at least the cops in your neighbourhood are doing SOMETHING! most dont even care!
flizzardo : mm a little quick to judge, aren’t we? :) it was only 12 hours from the great BN loss. let’s wait a couple of months and we’ll see, yes!
nyrac : ya i should be very thankful that i wasn’t harmed. i know someone who got slashed during a snatch theft :\ the police were very cavalier about it. a little bit slow, but efficient nonetheless :)
kimberlycun : w00t w00t celebrate celebrate
lynndhia : yeah more police presence would be great.. and by that i mean police who actually do their jobs and not leer at women’s legs :\
reallybites : tell you on msn hahaha. normal snatch theft ler.. they just grabbed and took off on the motorbike
sweatlee : okay baby when you come back i will protect you!!!! *BRAVE
sheon : haha sheon you’re just as emo as i am about the victory!!!
pegsywegsy : it’s so true what you say that it’s better to be paranoid than to be a victim. before this snatch theft, i’m probably like the least paranoid person about my belongings. i always leave my stuff unattended :\ well. never again!!! am clutching my bags closer to me from now on
alea : eh your mom is so lucky! ya mine was exactly like that. very expertly done
tricia : oh noes i hope your mom is alright too :(
hui wen : mine was outside my house too so i totally know how you feel :( damn scary right :( you cant even feel safe outside your own home and you dont even know if they’re going to start targeting your house from now on
simon seow : ya but this happened outside the school gate :\ no security around. yup, i’m anxiously waiting to see if both the BN and the opposition delivers on their election promises
40. Farah | March 10th, 2008 at 6:04 am
Stop me if I’m starting to sound like Yoda but finally there’s balance in the force.
41. sheon | March 10th, 2008 at 9:59 am
pinks :)
i am emo becoz i understand what are at stakes (so do many of us…).
if the bn still won by a landslide despite facing the strongest challenge from the rakyat+opposition coalition…..then…..no amount of dissent will change the racist government forever. then i see no hope for our generation in this country. mca? mic?…hahaha…..pets on leash trained to bite their own kind, but fed with nothing but leftovers and spit.
my decision was to leave the country IF bn won by a landslide. now….i wanna stay and help mend the country. and hey, maybe i’ll run for a state seat next polls. wtf? my offer to be your aide still stands however……….should you run for office. :)
42. pinkshirtz | March 10th, 2008 at 10:05 am
bwahaha … it was a crazy night at sri petaling .. with BN supporters crowding around mamak stalls armed with their BN lance! And with signs saying … honk if you loove BN … and plenty of response came back … but in the end they didn’t make it …
you’re right .. i’m glad things happened the way it happened .. hopefully there’ll be a change … especially in terms of education … sighz … how about a 700K subsidy for studies! groans!
43. Az1 | March 10th, 2008 at 10:15 am
Oh my god. Take care of your things next time kay? And yourself too.
44. Jeff from LA | March 10th, 2008 at 10:52 am
I’m very sorry to hear that you had your bag snatched. That must be quite a frightening experience.
I’m very happy, however, to hear that the opposition in Malaysia managed to get more than one-third of the seats. Hopefully, they’ll be able to work together to fight the corruption in the current regime.
45. benjamin lee meng chuin | March 10th, 2008 at 11:32 am
glad to know that you are safe sound
we wouldnt want anything bad to happen
to our lovely cute girl….
46. Adrian C | March 10th, 2008 at 11:45 am
the rakyat has prevailed.
i was at two opposition rallies. we were all standing together. you should have seen it … Malaysians out in force. old people were sitting on the roadside with their bangkus (stools) and citizensfrom all walks of life with their umbrellas braving the rain together. it was … beautiful.
it was an honour to be a part of history and i will cherish this experience for as long as i live.
47. suanie | March 10th, 2008 at 11:53 am
can be either ‘thanks’ or ‘thank you’ or ‘cheers’ or just ignore lmao
48. Yappy | March 10th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Goodness! I’m sorry to hear abt the lost of your bag. Glad to hear you are ok. Take care k…
On the other hand, I’m so happy to hear that BN lost 2/3 of the seats. :) I’m abit disappointed that I’m not in Malaysia to be part of this historic event. But I look forward to the next election when I will be back in Malaysia and eligible to vote too! (I’m under 21 this year). Power to the people! :))

51. sieutheng | March 10th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
which bag?! was it the one we got for u?!!?
52. violet the witch | March 10th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
i can’t believe PAS is in Shah Alam. Sure, it won’t affect the Chinese and the rest, but goddamn it us poor Malays. First Nik Aziz bloody blames the women for getting raped and says that pretty women shouldn’t work… what next? Declare an Islamic state in Shah Alam? I don’t want that crap la. Like we need more self righteous fanatics telling us what to do and how to do it in the name of religion.
NOW i wanna leave this country. I fucking hate PAS.
53. Adrian | March 10th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
hey sorry about ur phone,, and wallet etc. I nearly got robbed 2 weeks ago..
54. Not Waffle | March 10th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
Did you get the mcycle number? We should implement just a subset of hudud laws so we can chop the hands off snatch thieves.
55. sheon | March 10th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
violet the bitch: cool down first……. listen, for PAS to actually impose strict islamic law on selangor, it has to first go thru the state government. PAS has absolute control over kelantan just like how BN used to in parliament. but, rest assured PAS dont have that kinda control in selangor, because the representation of DAP and PKR are stronger in numbers. Mentri Besar is PKR not PAS. And and and……..if Anwar really really wants to challenge the prime-ministership in the coming election…..he MUST MUST MUST deliver his promises. otherwise he stands absolutely no chance to gather the kinda support we saw over the last couple of weeks. if he wants to challenge umno to the helm of premiership….he’d have to do MORE than what he did last 2 weeks!!
lets just wait and see what happens over the next couple of weeks, after everything settles in. ok?…….if we dont like, we can always vote them out next election…….ok?…. take it easy now.
56. Emilyc | March 10th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Oh my god, the most painful part is lost all the things that given by your friends and family. And of course all the phone numbers saved inside your phone. You need to start reply some sms by asking who are they already. btw where did this thing happened?

Try not to bring camera out when u are alone laaaa, normally u take photos outside only when u r with ur frens ma right? Anyhow, luckily u are still safe. Triple careful the next time!!

were you hurt?
my bag got snatched too, oct last year. both my phones – all my smses!!!, my fav calculator, wallet, house keys, other money-can’t-buy stuff also. luckily addy in ic and house keys don’t match. fell flat on the ground, bruised arm bleeding elbows and knees. mine happened near my housing area also. i phobia-ed and avoided that area for the next few months.
everytime i think about it, i keep telling myself that it could have been worse. thank God all my body parts are still intact!

O.O whats wrong with these snatch thieves!?
I hope you’re okay. You’re not hurt, are you?
This reminds me of an incident that happened to me and my mum. My mum’s bag was also snatched before. It happened years ago actually. We were just waiting for a taxi to pass by. At the same time, I noticed an ad about something (forgot what is it) on the tree and asked her to look at it. Unsuspectingly, a motorcycle past by and snatched her bag. Both of us fell to the ground; I fell down as well because she was holding me. As a result, her arm was sprained and she couldn’t work for 3 months. =S kinda feel bad about it. =( THANK GOD that she wasn’t like bleeding or something. There are stories about women whose heads were knocked or being dragged. eeeks! *shudders*
I wonder how come I didn’t notice this post? Am I blur? I read your other posts but didn’t see this one. hmm…. =/
