Three Things To Talk About
March 19th, 2008
i am currently back at Martian’s apartment, where there are simply not enough snacks or tissue paper. sometimes i don’t know how he exists in such impoverished conditions. i got so fidgety that i couldn’t stand it and went to the supermarket this afternoon to buy some Hello Panda biscuits and tissue boxes back -____- oh and i also found PODS!!! did you guys know that Singapore now has PODS!!! i am munchin’ away with much joy.
i’m eating and sleeping properly again, as i always do when i am back in the care of Martian, and it feels good. the other day i woke up feeling faint and i only realized a while later that it was because that i hadn’t eaten for 2 whole days. i was so busy and stressed out with the pajama party and the public speaking competition (more on this soon) that i simply forgot to eat. incredulous. i think i need to take better care of myself :\
there are so many things i wanna blog about, i don’t know where to start.
okay first topic: advertorials! i saw Michbaby’s post about people who complain about advertorials, and she really hit the nail on the head when she said it is irrelevant whether or not a blogger is being paid to write a post. i cant agree more, and really and do not see why there are people who insist it is only ‘right’ that bloggers write ‘THIS IS AN ADVERTORIAL’ at the top of each sponsored post.
alrighty, i can’t speak for other bloggers, but i will only write about products that i actually use and like, or if i think this is a product that i want to tell people about. every word that i write in my advertorials is purely the truth of what i think of the product; clients CANNOT tell us to write good things about the product if we don’t actually like it in the first place. take my LipIce post for instance - i mentioned that i love the product and i have been using it since i was young, which is the truth. does putting that stupid ‘THIS IS AN ADVERTORIAL’ sentence at the top of the post change anything or lend some kind of validity to my opinion of the product?
some girl mentioned somewhere that i should ‘give room for readers to make judgment based on the fact that part of the reason i am writing about this is that i am being paid for it’. aiyah what is this overreaction lah. yes, we write about certain things cos the brands pay us for the post, but seriously, what is the relevance here if the sole purpose of following a blog is to read the blogger’s opinion? so you’re getting the opinion wat! -___- and you are being exposed to a good product that the blogger genuinely likes and wants to write about, why are you complaining!
look back on all my food posts and restaurant reviews- would it have mattered whether or not i was paid for it, if at the end of the day people who read the post got to know about this certain restaurant and its services, and became more aware about KL’s food scene? same thing, yes? just like i choose to blog only about restaurants i LIKE, i also choose to blog only about products i LIKE.
and it’s not like the brands give us a whole press release that we merely copy and paste onto our blog. we actually take the effort to explore and write about the products creatively and truthfully, as per our own opinion. so i dont see why there should be a credibility issue.
at the end of the day right… this issue of ‘THIS IS AN ADVERTORIAL’ is such a small and itty-bitty thing that i don’t understand why people wanna throw a big fuss here and there. i think there are bigger things to worry about in our world, rather than ‘why is this blogger getting paid for a post but then no disclaimer!!!11′. sigh damn petty lah.
second topic: Malaysian Dreamgirl! i’ve been following all the 4 episodes, and here are my favourites so far:

this is Fiqa, a Malay-mixed-Chinese girl with really stunning features and a quiet confidence. i was very impressed by how articulate she was in her audition, and i really like her type of look - intense, cool, with a little bit of androgyny thrown in. i warmed up to her even more when i saw in Episode 4 how she told her aunt not to let her mother watch an upcoming episode where she would be dressed in really tight shorts. so sweet :)

Valerie, who came onto the show with this really big frizzy ‘fro and with all this PERSONALITY :) from the episodes i’ve watched, she’s very bubbly and likable, and very unique. definitely the kind of girl who’s special without even trying, and the sort whom everyone wants to get to know. for her makeover, she got her big hair cut off, and she’s got this sleek slightly-pixie cut now that really complements her eyes and facial features. it’s great!

Jean, my favourite from the very beginning. not only is she so cute, she’s also smart. she’s studying pharmacy in IMU, and from the way she talks, you can tell this girl has substance. i immediately sit up when the camera is on her and she’s giving her opinions, because i know it’s going to be a good answer - no waffling or ‘dont know lah..’ kinda answers, but strong and spot-on opinions, but never aggressive. i love how she can look both cute and hot - she looks so adorable in the sportswear shoot, and then how stunning is that B&W picture? so yes, you can imagine how disappointed i was when she announced that she pulled out of the show. yes, Jean pulled out. my favourite pulled out. i can’t believe this T____T it’s really a great loss to the show. you can read her note on her withdrawal here.
some other random commentary: i actually like the camerawork on the show! it’s pretty good, especially the editing. but there are some parts that gets draggy and a little bit filler-ish, like the part where the girls went to Bar Savanh and there was like a good 1 minute of them doing nothing but dancing. and the judges can be a little bit long-winded sometimes. also, where is Sazzy Falak!!
okay who’s everybody’s favourites!!! faster say!!
third topic: Martian and i are going somewhere cool (literally) today.. :) hehe. our plane leaves at 7 a.m, and i’m supposed to wake Martian up in about an hour. i’m very excited cos i haven’t been to this country in a very very long time, nor have i been to this part of it. actually i didn’t even know that part of the country existed until Martian booked the flights on a whim. ahhh i can’t wait!!!
eh actually i was given the task of researching the trip but i haven’t done it. shit shit shit see lah shouldn’t have spent so much time eating Pods today :\

…but i will only write about products that i actually use and like, or if i think this is a product that i want to tell people about.
but most people, even regular readers, don’t know that. Every blogger has his/her own reason for writing a product review and we can’t assume everyone writes for the same reason, which is why a disclaimer helps clarify things. It might be a petty issue but when you really think about it, your blog credibility is somewhat affected by this (i mean we all get worked up when the media says blogs are not real journalism).
Now that we know pinkpau ‘won’t review something unless she actually likes it’, it helps to clear the air. But we can’t carry the same assumption to other blogs. Which is why it’s more of a blogger courtesy to put forth such words when reviewing products :).
3. kennysia | March 19th, 2008 at 4:35 am
Why you put Elisha Cuthbert on your header? How much did Elisha Cuthbert pay you wtf.
Why you put the photo of yourself eating Maggi Cup noodle? How much did Maggi Cup noodle pay you wtf.
And most importantly…
Why you keep writing about the OPPOSITION!??!?! HOW MUCH DID DAP PAY YOU!?!?!? HAR? HAR? HAR? HAR?
(Funny that when I did an interview with a BN rep, everyone asked me how much they paid me. And when I published my interview with a DAP rep, everyone goes “Hidup DAP!”)
4. pinksterz | March 19th, 2008 at 4:57 am
hahaha wtf kenny’s comment!
hurm when i first realised you were writing about the mudah website i also began to think the same way as those people but then in the end i don’t care! it is the blogger’s right to blog what they want (albeit got some limit lah). at least you make effort to make sure your advertorials are not boring :D
and i have no fave on msian dreamgirls so far.
5. WP | March 19th, 2008 at 5:35 am
hehe, I wouldn’t like to have “THIS IS AN ADVERTORIAL” on top of each sponsored post (that might put me off reading it :P), but I think a small line at the bottom of the post might not be amiss. Just so that your readers know you didn’t just leap up and decide to write a post about that.
I like Fiqa as well! So she’s Malay-Chinese? But I’ve only watched some snippets of the episodes…I find the girls’ reactions a little “fake” (choreographed?) sometimes (in fact I even wrote up a rant about that)
6. tara | March 19th, 2008 at 5:43 am
found you!!
hope the saturday went well :)
7. carol | March 19th, 2008 at 5:44 am
thoroughly agree about the advertorials - who cares? Your blog, your right. If people are influenced to buy it because you said you like it, good la - and besides, it’s not like you forced them to like it or anything equally ridiculous.
haha i’ve been following MDG too.. I guess my favourites are Jean (too bad she pulled out), Natasha (can anyone tell me what mixed ethnicity is she of? Natasha Rose Boudville or something like that - sounds a bit french, Valerie (so cute gosh) and Ringo (because I’m a cheeserland follower haha and because I think she really does model well)
Must say I am not very fond of Hanis (whiny, whimpery) and Cindy (too eager to be hiaw) heh.
But that’s just me :)
8. carol | March 19th, 2008 at 5:45 am
and pau, how in the world do you actually.. FORGET to eat?
The very concept is foreign to me.
9. Cher Wee | March 19th, 2008 at 8:58 am
This YOUR blog, you have the RIGHT to write everything you like, you feel about.
Enjoy your trip.
10. Sandra | March 19th, 2008 at 9:03 am
….your advertorials don’t even sound like advertorials sometimes… and its fun to read anyways dunno why so many people are complaining…
and gosh.. how cna you forget to eat!?!?!
11. KY | March 19th, 2008 at 9:34 am
Su Ann you lied to me again!!!!
You said you were going to write 1 paragraph on the advertorial thingy only!!!
I feel so cheated! :P
12. Sharon | March 19th, 2008 at 9:35 am
i’m rooting for Valerie all the way, she’s unique, and i think she doesn’t need to try to hard to look great in pictures. way to go Valerie!

Enjoy your trip! Will be waiting to read all about it :-D
14. Jessi | March 19th, 2008 at 9:47 am

15. kennysia | March 19th, 2008 at 9:58 am
Natasha is Eurasian Ah Lian.
On camera she doesn’t speak much one. Off camera…. Phwoar.
Worse than Adeline.
16. alvin | March 19th, 2008 at 10:45 am
now before all your fanboys go grab the pitchfork and scream ‘it’s your right’ with all caps and some snarky spices added into it, let me reiterate that such disclosure is a courtesy, not an obligation.
although i am slightly disappointed that pau doesnt see this issue in such black and white as I do. You accept money to write something, how can you not see such obvious conflict of interest? You know i believe you when you said you write with truth and passion in mind. But that’s like a menteri accepting money from a contractor and still insist that the tender will be open and fair to all bidders. Why waste so much effort trying to make us believe you will be fair when all you have to do is to show a bit more transparency.
I dont think i am overreacting (sadly) and i dont want to make too many assumptions about you on this issue because we havent really talk about it (of all the naughty things we chat about…. -_-). But i afraid principles and ethics are not something we can cherrypick on to suit our convenience. You brush this off in such nonchalant manner i afraid the next time you complain about nepotism and corruption in our society i will have a hard time finishing the entire entry. (of course, not that that should ever be your concern)
17. suanie | March 19th, 2008 at 11:06 am

20. mIcheLLe | March 19th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
I LIKE VALERIE TOO!!!!!
weird person, this alvin. But then again we are all entitled to our own opinion and who are we to complain that bloggers should do THIS and write THAT and add THIS.
it’s up to the blogger to state whether she.he wants to say if it’s an advertorial or not. because THE BLOG BELONGS TO HER/HIM. -__-
21. sm | March 19th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
could it be Mars Pods?
22. Chris | March 19th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Pods are, well, chocolate pods with different stuffings in them (love the one with peanut butter in it!), covered in half with a crunchy biscuit base. wish i can draw here like in MSN haha!
yeah, got some issue on the adverts thingie, sigh. ah well duwan to say anything la after i write whole stupid paragraph wtf la. whatever it is it’s gonna be there, read or don’t read it lor if ppl dun like.
and where are u going! aih this weekend is perfect timing to go holiday (holiday tomorrow, off friday, syok 5 days!) but unfortunately no one to bring :(
23. hui wen | March 19th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
HOW CAN PEOPLE NOT KNOW WHAT ARE PODS!!!
And how can you not eat for 2 days!! My stomach protests even if I go without one meal, heh.
Haha, why kennysia can bitch about the contestants wan. I LOVEEEE Fiqa’s new hair! Le sigh. But my fave is Valerie, ya la ya la I want short girls to win wtf.
24. Nicholas.C | March 19th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Well.. the separation of advertorials and non advertorials is generally deemed to be important because the fact that one is paid to write it is seen as an encroachment on ones.
In fact, the clear demarcation of advertisements is a common thread among standards of journalistic standards world wide.
Anyway, you may not agree with it and that is your prerogative as this is your platform, but to label people who point is out as being petty is a step down the slippery slope of corruption.
I remember you writing about change and wanting to see our society progress further. Remember that integrity starts with all of us and it really is about the little things we do.
25. alea | March 19th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
my friend said Fiqa looks like me.
O.O!!!
ya lah yalah everybody in the world looks like me wtf. i like Valerie, she has VERY unique looks and i loved her afro….. T____T
26. TheRealAnonymous | March 19th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
I’m with PinkPau on the whole advertorial issue. =p In the first place its none of the public’s business as to whether or not one gets paid to post to advertise… so its really up to the blogger to disclose that information or not. =p
I think what PinkPau was mainly trying to point out in her message is; YOU got YOUR way of doing things, SHE got HERs, why is it bothering YOU so much that SHE’s not doing things the same way as YOU do? =p Everyone thinks and acts differently. Its in this sense that she meant it to be very petty. Learn to live your OWN life, and not others for them. =p Technically, her personal choices shouldn’t affect u in any way.
Things like this don’t happen only in blogs lar. I for instance am quite involved in the whole “car modification” scenes, where i drive an ah beng loud car zooming here and there… and am quite known to give good advice in how to do up ur car, so yeah, many people do come to me for advice…
So what happens when u’re that known… you do get companies and workshops actually approaching you for sponsorship. Giving u sponsorship in terms of money, services or product to go out and help spread their name =p coz’ they know how influential you can be. You don’t see me driving around with my car full of stickers saying “i’m sponsored by so and so and so”. =p Only unless when I join races or lend my car as a demo for a roadshows, then yes, those are times when its full of stickers lar. =p Coz’ a lot of people will take photos wan ma. =p
I believe PinkPau and I think the same way, I would only take in sponsorship that I myself WOULD personally recommend to others. It maintains your credibility. Not everything’s about money… I can afford my own modifications, but its still great to have sponsorships dropping by every once in a while. =)
27. TheRealAnonymous | March 19th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
oh yeah… forgot to say… i like Fiqa best. =)
I feel the character development for each contestant in the show not very good. Some scenes look so fake summore… =p
28. Porcupine | March 19th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Wah!!!
Flying off to another country again!!!
Remember to get some souvenirs for us hardcore readers-cum-fans leh…
29. Michelle C | March 19th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
What are pods by the way?
About the advertorial thing, I honestly think that it is not necessary to put up statement to hint that this is actually an advertisement. Like, I do reviews on restaurants too but really, no one really cares if you get paid or not, like you said.
I mean, just do what you like. Devil may care!
30. chm | March 19th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
take care or urself yea? dun make us worry… cnt wait ur nxt blog. cheerios!
31. Nissy | March 19th, 2008 at 4:47 pm

33. ront | March 19th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
eh…the 2 pictures of Valerie….they look like 2 diff persons……certain features were highlighted in the b&w picture which doesnt seem to exist in the colored picture
34. *dAwN | March 19th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
umm.. are you going to UK??? :D
35. noob | March 19th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
So is this Malaysian DreamGirl thingy an advertorial as well? I know for a fact that selected bloggers are paid to blog on this program. Well i do believe that it’s every blogger rights to put or not to put the advertorial remark on their entries. As the blog itself belongs to them. However, on the contrary, i would say it’s more on blogging ethic to put the advertorial remark. definitely i salute u miss quaintly for keeping the integrity that your advertorials are truthful. But the million dollar question here is will marketing ppl continue engaging bloggers that gave bad reviews on their products?
36. Simon Seow | March 19th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
Actually last Saturday I already know Jean is not in Malaysian Dreamgirl already because I asked Ringo where’s Jean because she’s a friend of a food blogger that i read. Ringo told me she’s not with them that night. The rest is my own deducing work. So, my guess was right.
Woh, after a busy week, going for vacation now, so jealous. Somemore so secretive about the location
Enjoy your vacation.
37. miss p | March 19th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
can’t see the note :( i like jean tooooo
38. kennysia | March 19th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
And the question I wanna ask is, who determines this so-called “blogging ethics”?
When you buy a ticket to go watch a movie in the cinema, do you really want somebody standing at the door to tell you “Eh, this movie is fake one har. Looks real only, but acherly is fake one.”
Do you want movie makers to do that? Just to be “ethical”? It ruins the mood of the viewers.
Same thing with blog entries. Outright stating if an entry is an advertorial or not ruins the entire flow of a blog entry. Blogging is no less a form of art than it is journalism. It tells a story from the blogger’s personal experiences. And you can’t fake personal experiences.
The beauty about the world wide web is that everyone is different and everyone sets their own rules. Each blogger sets his/her own law about how they want things to be “governed” on their own blog, in their own way.
39. pinkshirtz | March 19th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
i knew from the start that jean wouldn’t be able to complete the entire competition … she’s from the same school as me n i know shes having her finals soon…. sad nya!! i actually wrote a post for her!!!
Dun worry about the advertising there … just give them a piece of your mind!!!
40. Michael | March 19th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
they simply despised paid blog entry/advertorial because no company contacted them to do so. One cannot judge others on something they have no idea of.
i smell jealousy somewhere?
41. steven lee | March 19th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
my fav’s pinkpao and sazzy falak! too bad both of em aren’t in the show. :(
p/s: hey there’s a smiley on the bottom of your page!

44. julz | March 19th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Have fun on your trip!
Be very careful of old aunties stealing your money. There was once I was there, this old grandmother ask me to buy sweet potatoes from her, gave her money but she refused to give me back my change. Anyway you’ll have lots of blast there but just be careful of your surroundings.
Faster make your trip to UK lar. Then I have an excuse to go to Harrods to eat expensive chocolates. =P
45. anti | March 19th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
I dont like Valerie. She looks so aunty and her photos arent good. Its such a pity Jean left. She was doing so well.
When you wrote the LipIce ad, I kept wondering whether you were being paid for it. Even if its just to satisfy our curiosity, for “ethical reasons”, or whatever, very hard to just tell us that its an advertorial meh?
46. kimberlycun | March 19th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
i paid pinkpau to pimp me on her blog.
47. wenqi | March 19th, 2008 at 11:38 pm

michael : haha i’m very impressed by the makeovers! maybe except for adeline’s. i think she isnt expressive enough for that kinda short hair. hehe you shall find out abt the country sooooon
alvin : ah yes it’s a courtesy, not an obligation :)
kennysia : KENNY SIA DONT BE BIASED i am so disappointed in you i used to like your blog but now im never going to read you anymore !!!!1111
pinksterz : thank you :) i really do put in time and effort to make my advertorials nice to read.
wp : yes exactly! i dont want to put it up there to deter people because i really do spend a lot of time thinking up nice angles for my advertorials T____T yeah good point about the bottom line. will take into consideration :)
tara : oh it did :))) how is london!! eh imma add you on fbook now
carol : ahh thank you for understanding about the advertorial issue :) eh actually hanis is so unpretentious to me, that’s why i like her. very cute and not fake at all. her datin comment was sooooo adorable i just had to laugh. cindy has a strange accent right?! about the forgetting to eat.. YES i cant believe it’s happening to me too. i usually have lunch/dinner with people, but this week has been so busy that i havent been seeing anyone at all. hence no opportunity to eat :P
cher wee : thank you so much :))
sandra : i actually have had only 2? or 3 advertorials on my blog so far. haha but i’m glad to hear you like reading my advertorials :))
KY : HAHA yayaya that’s what i was thinking when i hit the Publish button LOL
sharon : she’s very cool right! cant wait for the next episode. wanna see who’s the first to be eliminated
ping : yesyes i cant wait to blog too :D
jessi : ooh! do you know which specific euro ethnicity?
kenny sia : are you serious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ZOMG
alvin : eh i swear i wrote my earlier reply to you without reading your this comment first. haha yes yes it is a courtesy, not an obligation, and i think my reasons to hold back from this courtesy are quite valid. aiyah puppy you know i luv you to itty bitty bits!! lemme think about this a bit more, then we discuss this over msn, yes :)
suanie & carolyn : VERY NICE WAN I SHOW YOU!! over here
reallybites : ultimately i think that if a lot of my friends and readers preferred me to disclose that it’s an advertorial, i would. it’s just all this stupid annoying whingers that tak kena mengena with my blog that annoy me when they try to draw all kinds of conclusions about my credibility and so on. can accuse me of lying some more just because i was paid for a post. damn stupid.
michelle : michbaby i luv u!
sm : SNICKERS!!!!!!!!! *heart
chris : yalar i read from there wan that’s why i blogged abt it :P aiyah we all have our opinions about this right! eh catch u on msn, wanna tok to u abt something!
huiwen : trust me i never knew i was capable of forgetting to eat either T___T its just that all my meals are spent eating out with people, and now that i’m busy and am refusing to see ppl until i get all my work sorted out, i just kinda forget to eat. wtf damn stupid. haha yalar this kenny damn evil wan. mamak stall tablecloth -_______-
nicholas c : thank you, very good points brought up :) i still think that the specific people complaining about this are petty, because they are petty people (and these are specific individuals) and drama-mongering, but i am giving this issue more thought now :) yup my prerogative, but i would not go out of my way to be discourteous just because i have a right to. thank you for your comment! i believe your first paragraph was truncated tho.
alea : eh but her new hair nice wat! no lah you dont look like fiqa!
therealanon : alvin will you please be my spokesperson!!! why do you say everything i wanna say so much more eloquently!
porcupine : but how to pass to everyone !!!
michelle c : ya i dont think its relevant at all to say whether or not it’s an advertorial. AHHH pods.. :) you are in the best country to find them. click here!
chm : yes i got Martian to take care of me now :D
nissy : WE CAN?!?!?!?!?!
grace : i didnt think i was capable of it either :P but it just happens cos i’m busy and have to spend my dinner/lunchtimes rushing everything i have to do
ront : it’s the same for the other girls’ pictures too!
dawn : i wish =(
noob : there are two bloggers hired officially to cover the show, and i am one of them :) yes it’s our right to disclose whether or not a certain post is an advertorial, and yes again it is also about courtesy. some clients actually tell us that we can write constructive criticism if we so wish, so it’s not that bad :) they dont force us to write things we do not want. and if it’s going to be a bad review, we may as well not write about it. why give a bad product free publicity?
simon seow : first day of holiday so far! :) enjoying it !
miss p : oh i think you need to have a facebook account to see tthe note :\
kennysia : i totally agree about the flow thing. but eh how ah if we were to put the sentence at the end of the post? do you think its anticlimatic?
pinkshirtz : if she went thru with the show, means she cannot sit for finals? why would she consent to joining the show in the first place then?
michael : *giggle* this is what a lot of us have agreed upon, for certain individuals :P
steven : haha sazzy is the show’s host! she’s in there wat. but weirdly, she doesnt turn up very often
anon : im glad someone likes hanis !!! :D i like her cos she’s so unpretentious :)
julz : eh so far the people here very nice. HOW YOU KNOW WHERE I AM WAN !!!!
anti : haha i’m glad someone asked me this. no, it’s not very hard to type ‘this is an advertorial’ at the start, but i still think the reasons for having that sentence are so flimsy, and this is at the expense of ruining my entire post and its flow and message. i suppose i just have to collect readers opinions and then make a decision about it :) so far most people dont even care if i’m being paid.. they read the post anyway. only the petty people who get all stressed out about which blogger is making money are the ones making noise.. :)
kimberly : and i paid kimberlycun for the sidebar link!!!
wenqi : sigh what to do … ’nuffnang girls’ are like this wan..
iamdoryfish : yes correct!! the snickers ones are the best, and the only ones i buy. i wrote about them once, click here to read!

53. grace | March 20th, 2008 at 10:04 am
oh yaa..ehh dun write the advertorial line.
i like your post that doesn’t looks like an advertorial and makes me enjoy more about it. especially the lip gloss entry!!
hu cares about being paid lar…its important 4 you to actually gives out the message about the product or stuff that v must know about it.
but i dun get it why all ppl are making such big fuss over that advertorial line.
54. vvens | March 20th, 2008 at 10:42 am
where are you going?!? hehehehe
55. ahlost | March 20th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
I can’t read Jean’s… :( I like her too.. Waiting for Part 5 now.. hehehe..
56. Joyce Wong | March 20th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
I have to disagree with you on the advertorial comment. you know for a fact as well there is tremendous difference between a paid post and one that isn’t.
i read michelle’s post:
“First it was Mudah and now Lipice. Eh. Bloggers write reviews ALL THE TIME. You go to Red Box, you write about it. REVIEW. You watch a movie, your write about it. REVIEW ALSO. You eat at Jogoya, you write about it. REVIEW ALSO WHAT! What does it matter if it’s paid or not paid!”
so i replied:
Sorry, i just had to comment on what you wrote. There *is* a difference. Bloggers go to a restaurant, they review. They go to whatever la, yeah they review. And what do they write? good things. and bad things.
with paid advertorials, the clients will never allow something negative to be noted. never. hence, it’s paid. they get to choose the end draft that goes up.
if the blogger wasn’t paid of it and just sent products, then it can be considered a review cos that’s what it is.
so you see, there *is* a difference between a paid post and one that isn’t.
i wrote about it a few months back

Su Ann, how could you NOT eat for two days!!!
Take care of yourself babe - what will happen if you get an ulcer? And make sure Martian takes good care of you, although it sounds like he’s already doing that haha =)
ps: About the whole LipIce thingy, I think it’s a storm in a teacup really. I admit I was a little surprised when I finished reading a post AND THEN realised it was an advertorial, but really, what of it?
Because: 1. It was well written, as always 2. Like you said, you only chose to write about products you like and already use (case in point: those pictures of you using LipIce were taken before you were offered the opportunity to write about the product, I presume?) 3. If there had been something about LipIce you did NOT like, I am assuming you would have been frank enough to be upfront about it?
So no worries babe and have a great time wherever you’re going! I’m looking forward to a travel post already, complete with those lovely pics you always take =)
58. tze | March 20th, 2008 at 10:01 pm
honestly i think that someone who blogs about something without saying ‘this is an advertorial’ would be more believable, and bloggers who blog about things when they’re paid to do it would make me doubt the product la like how good it is bla bla bla. but that said, i know you and i know you wouldnt give good reviews if the product wasn’t good in the first place. it’s just other bloggers out there who would blog about anything and everything as long as it comes with a price tag
59. mIcheLLe | March 20th, 2008 at 10:34 pm

60. inez | March 20th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
i cant believe Natasha was eliminated. Sazzy said she might be quite childish but heck her photos are way better than many others!
AND, Cindy is such a fake (seeing her on cam la). Behind cam, she MAY be a sweet nice innocent helpful girl. But still, not may fav.
Eyna & Fiqa, i like! i hope the results do not turn out like Malaysian Idol 2. So vote for the ones you think should win ppl!
*im sorry i have to post this here. i cant seem to find a MalaysianDreamgirl Forum or something :(

65. Uglyduckling | March 21st, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Msian dreamgirls are like sluts. Why are they told to pose like one? Boobs revealing pose? Is this our culture? If boobs can win the game, maybe abt time Kennysia join too!
66. Uglyduckling | March 21st, 2008 at 2:04 pm

my favourite dreamgirl goes to Jean too…
too bad she quit…
but good for her too, she got better future if she do well in her current career.
among the chinese Model, she the most natural, tough n inteligent..
75. Irene | March 22nd, 2008 at 1:42 am
I agree with #2 and #16 alvin, #24 nicholas C, and #56 Joyce Wong. quote nicholas “I remember you writing about change and wanting to see our society progress further. Remember that integrity starts with all of us and it really is about the little things we do.”. same reason why we voice out our dissatisfaction that our mainstream media has a biased voice because they are owned by certain political parties. the new media is certainly refreshing and powerful, but with these I feel it should also come with the minimum journalistic responsibilities, especially for the mega popular ones (I mean this as a compliment), to jump on the “it’s my personal space and I can do whatever I want” cart a little less hastily.
76. TheRealAnonymous | March 22nd, 2008 at 1:43 am
Hahaha… wow, thats a pretty BIG compliment you just gave me man… you know how much I LOVE the way you write wan lar… for you to say something like that… OMG!

81. NIssy | March 22nd, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Yes Su Ann! I bought a packet of PODS (I love the one with Snickers in it too!) at Subang Parade’s Cold Storage. It was really a pleasent surprise as usually i’d have to wait for my bf’s sis to bring ‘em back from oz. Love love PODS! :)
82. OMG | March 23rd, 2008 at 1:04 am
I just heard that Jean’s school sent her a letter saying that they were disappointed in her for joining MDG and they would not give her another chance if she failed her exams. WTF. How can they do such a thing?!
83. iamdoryfish | March 23rd, 2008 at 9:06 am
OMG, is it true? They are so cruel! I like Jean and she is my fav so far…:(
84. songjun | March 23rd, 2008 at 3:52 pm

86. miss p | March 24th, 2008 at 1:49 am
i do have a facebook account. but i still cant read it T_T
87. julz | March 24th, 2008 at 10:07 am
hahahaha you so loud. I can hear your conversation from this part of the world! =P
88. OMG | March 24th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Yea, I heard it from a close friend of Jean. IMU is way overboard to do such a thing. Somebody should expose what mean greedy people they are. In fact, Jean should have exposed them.
89. edna | March 24th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Poor Jean.
She was my fav as well.
But I guess it is not the end of the world by pulling out of MDG.
I still admire her anyway. She looks very independent, outgoing and fun in her Facebook photos.
Kudos to you Jean!
Anyway, Su Ann, whatever it is I think you write better than most blogs I have read. Keep up the good work!
90. FondueOfLust | March 27th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Valerie is my fav cos she has big (+ )( +) and a very tight (_|_). Other than that, Cindy too cos she looked slutty. I like slutty looking girls. They’re just great in bed.
