The Malaysian Dreamgirl Top 3 (updated!)

and so the Top 3 of Malaysian Dreamgirl has been decided upon :)
it was interesting to see that Jay, Nadia and Hanis won Kenny’s catwalk challenge last week, with Hanis getting replaced by Adeline after she was disqualified. i think a lot of people are of the opinion that this challenge was a good barometer of the talent in this competition, and that Jay, Nadia and Hanis deserved the most to emerge as our Top 3.
the Couture Batik photoshoot in the same episode is my favourite shoot to date - exquisite dresses, gorgeous hair and makeup, and the floral-themed graphic design was a lovely touch! below are each of the Top 6 girls’ pictures along with my commentary; please read on only if you have watched the latest episode and already know who the Top 3 are :)
1. HANIS
Hanis’ pictures is absolutely stunning and my favourite of the bunch. it is flawless in my humble opinion - face, posture, dress, mood are all 10/10. yes, i do think she deserves to be in the Top 3, and i wasnt surprised when Andrew of Andrew’s Models singled her out as his favourite and the one with the most potential in the Top 6. like Cheryl Samad and Sazzy Falak, Hanis has the young and sweet look that has proven to sit very well with the Malaysian audience. she’s pretty, chatty, has presence and a beautiful personality to boot. if she decides to further her career after the show, Hanis can go SO far as a tv host and presenter. can’t you just see her hosting the next One In A Million or Akademi Fantasia? :D
contrary to what some of her detractors (and there aren’t many) think about her complaining about the other girls too much, i believe it is important for people to have opinions and to be brave enough to speak up. and i also think even when she’s complaining about other girls, Hanis still manages to be sweet and likable! haha. a remarkable ability. Hanis is going to make waves in the coming years :)
2. JAY
ah, Jay :( i know a lot of people think that she should be in the Top 3, but unfortunately she didn’t make it. at the beginning, Jay was eclipsed by some of the more eye-catching girls like Eyna and Jean and the more controversial characters like Cindy and Nadia, but as the show went on it became obvious that Jay was a force to reckon with. she was hardworking, kind and had strong beautiful features that she knew how to use to her advantage. so many people support Jay and think that she’s the best of the Top 6, but this was a support that either didn’t translate to votes, or just wasn’t enough to top the votes of the final three girls. haih. i voted several times for Jay this week, too :(
but Jay’s picture is only just alright. when i was watching her pose in that episode, i thought that her final picture would turn out really good, but strangely enough this was the one they picked at the end. why! surely there were nicer pictures. her arm in the photo looks slightly disproportionate, and it would have made better composition if we could see her other arm behind her. her facial expression was very obviously mid-twirl because it’s neither here nor there. where the other girls’ pictures looked etheral, Jay’s didnt.
i really like Jay and wished she could have made it to the final 3, but i suppose that is not to be :( when the four of us went to visit the Dreamhouse that one time, she was so very kind and polite to us. i watched her at MIFA and i thought she looked absolutely fantastic on the runway. she totally owned it :) Jay if you are reading this, i hope you take all the opportunities that the show has given you and pursue your dreams to the very end. you belong in this industry.
3. ADELINE
Adeline sure surprised everyone last week! she really broke out of her shell and did such a fantastic job in the Escada commercial shoot. she was smiling throughout the shoot, and like i mentioned before, her smile truly is her best asset, second only to her huge eyes. she’s also visibly a lot more comfortable with the camera and is a lot more expressive than she used to be, and so her progress is quite obvious in that arena. but i still think she needs a lot more work when it comes to photos; the doped blur look she’s had from the start is STILL there :(
her Batik picture is definitely her best picture to date, though still far from great. Adeline really looks like a fairy in this picture and her skin looks sooooo good. but like Jay’s, this photo would look much better if we could see her other arm, as well as more of her dress. i think she mentioned in the previous episode that she was told to do certain poses, and this often resulted in her having bad angles.. well, if the Wella shoot was anything to go by, she should not do as they say, then!!
with some polishing and training, Adeline can do very well. Andrew of Andrew’s Models mentioned that she has the potential to pursue acting, and when he said that i was a little bit surprised, because acting requires the kind of expressiveness that Adeline doesn’t have cos she’s so blur all the time! but then i thought about it and recalled the Escada commercial where she totally kicked butt, and i realized that Adeline DOES indeed come to life when she’s acting. so, Chinese tv show producers out there, what are you waiting for! :) here’s your girl.
4. RINGO
her elimination was seriously the shock of the century. i think nobody expected it at all. i believe her downfall was her previous remark about how she didn’t know where her votes were coming from. a lot of her fans must have felt slighted and stopped voting :( haih to be honest, i actually think that comment was blown out of proportion. i suppose it was only humble to say ‘i’m really surprised that i’m still here’, and she also said twice that she was grateful and thankful for all her votes. why did everyone choose to disregard that.
and also, it is the truth wat that her mom is her only family. many weeks ago, Mr BBQ and i were talking about Ringo’s chances in the competition. i was of the opinion that if the votes were left untampered (which they can’t be, because they’re externally audited), Ringo was winning the competition for sure, because she has SO MANY fans. but then Mr BBQ pointed out that fans will only vote two or three times at the most, but it is family members who will vote for you a few hundred times in one go. doesn’t that have a lot of truth in it? my votes in this show never exceeded 5 for a single girl. but i know that if my sister (if i had one) or even my cousin joined, i would be voting for her rabidly and campaigning like crazy. so i’m sure that’s what Ringo meant when she said she doesnt enjoy the privilege of having a huge extended family like the other contestants. however, yes, she does have her fan base, which she should have acknowledged. but yknow, she did say she was grateful and thankful to whoever was voting for her :)
so to me, Ringo’s biggest downfall was not the comment she made, but that she’s too quiet and like Adeline, hasn’t made much progress since the start of the show. her photo in the Batik photoshoot is good - i actually really like her face in this photo because it connected so well with the camera. (yaya i know the look was supposed to be ‘blank’ and everything but i think that’s such a bad direction to give. ‘faraway’ look would have been better than ‘blank’) even though her face looked a bit small in the photo, it’s still gorgeous, and she definitely made good use of the features in her dress, like propping up one leg to show the layers and holding up the veil at the back. to Ringo, if you are reading this, it’s good to have you back blogging :) come out next week ok, Stewie buy us dinner!!!
5. CINDY
this picture of Cindy is pleasant and all, but a little bit lifeless. her face, hair, collar area and that arched foot looks goooood all put together though. the one thing i would do to improve this picture is to see some life or movement in it; maybe stretch out the right leg and arch her back.
is it just me or has Cindy suddenly become a lot more likable? i see that she’s dropped her accent for good and that makes me very happy, you kneow :D it was quite painful to watch everytime she put on that accent. she did a great job in the Escada shoot, but her catwalk is still quite bad. i dont know about the robotic part, but i do know that she walks way too fast for the runway. on another note, the model from Andrew’s Models who was with Elaine Daly in the latest episode, the one called Tini? she was at MIFA too, and oh my god her runway walk is FAWESOME. she has a superstyle stomp :D i couldnt help but gape.
Cindy is a very pretty girl and many think she’s hot, but with looks alone she cannot do much. so i think she needs a lot of honing before she can make it big as a model. i think she’s made a lot of improvement from the start though, which is good cos it shows she’s learning. i’m quite excited to watch her at the Malaysian Dreamgirl finale this Tuesday, just to see if she’s getting better on the runway :)
6. NADIA
no i dont like this picture. it’s mid-jump, the posture is bad and her facial expression is lost. her dress is magnificent but is not showcased properly in the photo. and you know what i think, i dont think it’s Nadia’s fault. she looked like she was doing a good job posing through the video, and i’m sure there were better pictures to pick from, but for some reason they chose this one.
even Ringo has commented that the photographer takes a few shots of her and calls it a wrap. i don’t understand why, when you can spend a few more minutes with each girl and try to draw a perfect picture out of them. a nice picture in the first frame doesn’t mean you can’t get the perfect shot in the 6th frame. yes, the model plays the biggest part in making a good photo, but so does the photographer i believe.
Nadia is capable of much more than this picture, and a lot of people know it. but one thing with her is that she can get too technical. during this shoot, she was actually counting the number of koi fish in her dress? i mean, why! the knowledge of the number of fishes in your dress won’t help your performance any. she reminds me of Allison in this season’s ANTM, the one who was overly calculated and over-thought all her poses. and she’s also got a bit of Melrose (season 7) in her ;) very cili padi. gorgeous girl too. my heart went out to her when she was eliminated this episode, because if there is anyone who REALLY wants to win this thing, it is Nadia. Nadia if you are reading this, don’t give up :) you heard Andrew… take your gorgeous self, go out there and kick butt!!!

and so we have our Malaysian Dreamgirl Top 3 - Adeline, Cindy and Hanis - and they will be competing to the very end this Tuesday the 29th of April at the Finale show in 1 Utama. i am extremely excited and i hope this involves runway :) hopefully they bring back the other 8 girls for a HUGE Malaysian Dreamgirl runway show! see you all at the finale.

I also believe that the top 3 will be Hanis, Cindy and Ringo. Hanis because she deserves it and is the public’s favourite, Cindy because her dad is rich, and Ringo because she has a bunch of diehard blogfans. I am so angry at Ringo for lying about not knowing where her support comes from as it is obvious that she knows it perfectly well. Her performance has been very mediocre. She chose to update her blog instead of calling her mom who is supposedly the only one supporting her. So obviously she knows that the only reason she’s still there is because of her blog fans. I take her lie to be a personal insult to my intelligence and everyone else’s. What do you feel about it?
However, on who really deserves to be in the top 3, I think it should be Hanis, Jay and Eyna.

I definitely don’t think Ringo deserves to be there. She’s so forgettable. She didn’t stand out at the ESCADA Challenge AT ALL. Made me wonder whether she actually played the lead role. She was already camouflaged in her black outfit and height, she of all people should’ve made more effort.

I can’t disagree any more with Caryn. Ringo has never been someone who stood out from the rest throughout the whole competition. I may sound a tad judgemental here, but to be a well-acclaimed model, height will always be one of the main criteria, besides having a great personality and physical attributions. Clearly, Ringo lacks one of them, which is the height.
As for Cindy, suffice to say that I have never favoured her ever since the competition has yet to kick-off. I could roughly tell her personalities from her blog (which you linked her before this) and that was the only time I went there. After a few weeks, she is just exactly like how she is potrayed there.
Just my two cents woth of thoughts.
And ohh yea, here’s my prediction for the finals.
The top three who I think rightly deserved their place:
1. Nadia
2. Jay
3. Hanis
Unfortunately, who can’t deny the fact that Malaysians tend to make “genius” choice when it comes to reality shows, and here’s the three that I think will get to the final:
1. Cindy
2. Ringo
3. Adeline/Nadia/Hanis (but I guess Nadia will just nick-it)

Anyway, girls that I think will be in the top 3 are Ringo, Cindy and Hanis. Ringo cos of her ‘loyal fans’, cindy cos she’s nvr been in the bottom 3 these past few weeks and Hanis cos everyone loves her (including me).
Top 3 who deserves to be in the competition are Hanis, Jay and Nadia.

Most undeserving (to reach this far and to be even in the competition right from the beginning): Ringo
4 major faux pas:
faux pas #1: lying to elaine daly about the lack of saddest moment
~ her way of responding to that question is probably the worst, if not the dumbest approach especially since the question was posed to test her character. plus, she’s in a position to win favor from judges, not vice versa. no wonder elaine daly looked pissed.
faux pas #2: dissing the judges and some of the top 12 contestants, then returned to the show upon recall
~ showcase her greed for glamor and glory and cash/prizes and hypocrisy. nobody was holding a gun to force her return - plus, why would one ever wish to go back to a place where u find the quality of judgment questionable or even deplorable?
faux pas #3: faking her surprise about never being in bottom 3 in front of national viewers and implied that her support came from her mom, her only relative and the general public, thereby hinting upon her (non-existent) liability
~ her biggest mistake to date. and her words insulted my intelligence straight-off. does she even thought once of the repercussions of what she utter, or rather, fib?
faux pas #4: revelation from her mom that she’s only in mdg for the car, not to chase after modeling fame or to achieve any modeling aspiration
~ this comment from mom had basically placed the final nail to ringo’s coffin for ever deserving the title. sorry aunty, as my mom does teach me manners and with all due respect for elders, i dont think voting for your daughter to win a car from a model-search competition is justified. Not only does it defeat the mission of mdg and create unfairness to fellow contestants, it also deprives other more deserving girls of using mdg as a springing board to make a name of themselves in the modeling field.
even without any of the faux pas, IMHO, Ringo does not have the attributes (height, looks, versatility etc.) to make it as a model.
On Cindy, she’s another story altogether, she’s where she’s right now thanks to her dad and family.

i really really really do hope Hanis become the first mdg girl, because she’s a genuine public favorite and also does have both the attractive personality and qualities to become successful in modeling (she’s so tall and slim and did a great catwalk at MIFA!!), as seen from her performance and vast improvements throughout mdg.
and clearly, the other 2 girls in my top3 list (in the real world) havent produce any outstanding performance to-date at the dreamhouse.

I read Ringo’s blog quite often. Have nothing against her, I think she’s cute. But thats just it. You cannot be “cute” to be a top model. Plus, in the Escada ad, she was totally obscured by all the rest. And I gotta agree with Caryn about her feigning knowledge as to where her votes come from.

i really don’t know why is ringo in the competition in the first place. i never liked her from the start. even her blog did not attract my attention. the other girls in mdg improved in terms of their photoshoots n the way they carry themselves but i dont see anything coming from ringo. voters please vote wisely. this is not a best blogger search competition. its a model search competition. you really think ringo has what it takes to be a model? THINK AGAIN. her bunny teeth definitely isn’t attractive/sexy.

and one more thing to add, it was really annoying how ringo said in one of the episodes somewhere along the lines - “i’m really grateful that i was never in the bottom 3, and i’m actually quite surprised because i only have my mum as my family to vote for me, unlike the others who has their uncle aunty, makcik pakcik, yi ma ku che and all voting for them”
tell me that didn’t irritate you enough to stop voting for her.
i can’t understand how some of you can still say you’re ringo’s supporter!!!!!! for god’s sake, wake up people!

Trying to earn pity votes and pretend that she got so far on the public’s admiration of her modelling skills instead of just support from her blog fans. No conscience whatsoever. Disgusting. omg and Caryn: spot-on, probably the best faking act ever, and to think that she did it without blinking an eye.
she’s no conscience, no guilt and no sense of appreciation. just an internet addict who complained being “depressed and deprived” in a house filled with 6 other girls while gearing with the thought of winning a car. how she can still feel good abt herself while depriving other girls a shot at the modeling arena through mdg, i could never understand.
without her, ppl like eyna and fiqa would still be in the run for the title. a big sigh for them.

everyone’s opinions are quite unanimous with who’s deserving and what not. and i agree with what’s said above too.
1. i really think talent’s abundance with jay and nadia, although consistency is not something which follows them, sadly.
2. as for hanis i think she’s improving with her photoshoot although i must say her cat walk is waywayway better than the photos she take.
3. adeline ada talent but expression kosong. tis sad…
4. cindy’s facial features are not up par with what a model should have. she doesn’t stand out at all.
5. ringo’s not versatile.
likability factor plays an important part, but only vote for those we like and are talented is the way to go!! let’s also vote for the deserving ppl, and not vote blindly :)

I don’t think Ringo did that out of modesty. Everyone knows her fans are supporting her, so she should just admit it and thank them outright. She did it such a roundabout way so she could get away with not mentioning her fans, and still make them feel like she thanked them. Furthermore, she was shown plotting to get more votes from her fans by offering tickets to the finale. Thank goodness she’s out. Her face was so shocked.
Cindy still managed to get into the top 3, of course. But hopefully everyone will be voting for Hanis now instead of having their votes divided between Jay and whoever else, so that should help Hanis win. It was surprising that Adeline managed to get into the top 3 instead of Jay, but Adeline has been showing a lot of improvement throughout the episodes. Jay and Nadia should still be able to do well under Andrew’s Models. I’m just glad Ringo’s out.

i think at this point, the competition has almost come to an end in a somewhat justified manner, regardless of the controversial voting system and how some ppl have ‘abused’ it:
1) JAY and NADIA (both of who have potentials to make it as models):
even though they didnt end up in top3, which is where they deserved to be, and thus lost their chance of securing a 1 yr-modeling-management contract, they had the privilege of visiting andrewsmodel and putting their names into the industry thanks to winning the kenny challenge. however, i think nadia needs to consider toning down her attitude and temper, especially if she’s just starting out and a little humility and patience wont hurt. anyway, although they were eliminated from top3, they did not LOSE in the intrinsic sense
2) ADELINE (the girl who made the late comeback):
another lucky gal who has the privilege of visiting andrewsmodel. slow starter and way too quiet. but at least she finally started to come out of her shell and shined at the escada challenge and was promptly rewarded. i think she still have to continue improve on her facial expression for photoshoots and her own speech and shyness, but at least we managed to se her forte in one of the many aspects of modeling - commercial shooting. she definitely has the IT girl factor going on :). and i suspect why she is in the top3 is because of her many silent voters ie those that never make noises on the internet. Wont be surprised if they are mostly chinese-educated girls and guys who’s into HK cantonese movies and the likes because i think adeline’s look does appeals to a crowd like that :)
3) HANIS (the girl who made the biggest improvement and transformation compared to how she was at the beginning of mdg):
in her usual safe spot, and best of all, she deserves it based on very transparent reasons. she was disqualified back in kenny challenge and thus lost her opportunity to visit andrewsmodel, but andrew still make a special note of her!!! :)
4) CINDY (robotic and zoom-like catwalk):
she was portrayed as a nuisance among the girls in one of the long-ago episodes, but i have to give her credit for eventually toning down some of her dramatic acts and emotions in the episodes of late. i think she still has lots to work and train on in the aspects of runway, photoshoots and the likes, but one thing i have no doubt about her is her performance in modeling stints that involves some acting (eg. commercial modeling) and public speaking (eg. radio commercials - which is why i wasnt the least surprised when she won the red.fm challenge). this girl is a born drama-queen at heart and on stage, so she’s suited for this kind of role. and yeah, she’s probably still in the show because of her daddy’s/families votes, while there are other more deserving girls with the overall modeling package who have been eliminated eg. jay, nadia, fiqa, eyna.
5) RINGO (height liability and zero modeling factor):
height is almost the first pre-requisite to make a break in modeling, so compared to all the other girls above, that’s her first-and-foremost liability, a permanent one to boot. this mdg show has also exposed a whole different persona of her (which all of us are aware of what it refers to by now) versus how she appears to be behind a computer screen. and yes, everybody knows that the only reason she even reach top6 is due to her blog fan base. on a merit level, she doesnt deserve to go this far and should be out before ppl like eyna and fiqa are. i honestly dont think she has anything going at all for her in any aspects of modeling: all her photoshoots are mediocre and lack versatility, she cant catwalk, she was effortlessly overshadowed and disappeared into oblivion in commercial challenge like escada, she tends to keep to herself and cant communicate or do not know how to sell herself well and in an appropriate way to the audience out there. she’s better off doing things she used to do: blogging.
overall, i am satisfied with the current top 3. not all of them are the most deserving ones, but at least at present, each of them has shown what they are good at: ADELINE (commercial), HANIS (many things :) ), CINDY (any modeling thing that has acting and drama component lol). it could be worst, and i am definitely glad RINGO is finally eliminated.
however, based on the full package - both personality and modeling potential, HANIS should win the mdg title
so GO HANIS!

so sad that jay is out cos she really does deserve to be in the top 3. i’ve never liked cindy since the beginning because of her attitude but i do agree that has been toned down recently but i still think jay deserves it more than cindy. cindy is still in because of her family like what the rest mentioned. it’s so unfair that money can buy votes (thru sms as well)
ringo doesn’t have wat it takes to be a model and yea finally she’s out. woohoo?
hanis should be the winner, i hope.

i just absolutely loved the way Hanis handled Cindy in the footage of the last 2mins of Ep15 part 4. hahaha!
Cindy attacked her for saying what she thinks, but Hanis just gave her this “whatever” look and laughed it off — (”Ok lah, if Cindy wants to think that way I cannot stop her.” *exasperated laugh*)
and OMGzzzz, Cindy is like totally backstabbing “someone.” Could it be Adeline? hehe

did u guys notice wat ringo talked about on the phone? In episode 15 part 4, she said she’s worry bcoz she no longer updates her blog, n scare to lose votes from her fans. She ask d guy on d line how many ardent n loyal fans she has who keep voting 4 her. The guy keep track of d number.. ‘about 50′, he said.
wat i tink is dat prior to going into the dreamhouse, she asked her fren (or possible bf), d guy on d phone, (possibly Mr. BBQ or TT) to update her blog frequently with self-promoting posts of hers n continue remind fans 2 vote 4 her n possible attract readers who read her blog out of curiosity to vote for her too. And d guy deleted her all negative comments or non-praising neutral comments on her blog lest her fans would agree with d comments n stop voting 4 her, also for new readers 2 read comments dat she’s good, she’s nice, she’s pretty, she did well bla bla bla…
She did have a strategy to gather votes…
Possibly MDG production team find out bout dis, insist her to delete d previous self-promoting post of her n probably even stop her from updating new post. thus, d revomal of previous post by Mr. BBQ and some crap dat Mr. BBQ cant guest blog anymore, replaced by TT who apparently blog nonsense…
n listen to d phone conversation of Cindy, she mentioned dat there’s some changes in d rules in d company, possibly bout voting rules..

I think one of the reason Ringo’s reader stopped voting is because the abruptly stopped posting by Mr. BBQ which was bringing in more supporter and readers. Also, the mundane and quite rude post by TT angered most readers.
