Sigh

August 23rd, 2008

I’m writing this on my phone now while waiting to board. I’ve got a lot of things to say, like how my wardrobe looks so empty now, and how i had to choose between indomee and maggi, and how deciding what to bring was so much easier than i thought it would be, and how saying bye to everyone at the escalator in klia was so much harder than i thought it would be… but everyone in the lounge has boarded and i’m still here typing into my phone frantically, so i guess a lot of things will just have to be left unsaid.

Bye bye :(

Hi Su Ann, I know how hard that was (saying goodbye at the escalator) for I have been through it but now everything is over for me and I am back home! So just be patient, once you get adjusted in New York, and when it is time for you to come back to Malaysia after a few years, you’ll probably feel the same for New York. All your loved ones will surely be here waiting for you to come back but there are many things waiting for you in New York that are going to change your life and you’ll gain lots and lots of new experience! I am so glad that leaving home to study somewhere else has changed my life and most importantly I am able to be totally independent and make my own decision and be responsible for the choices I have made, I’m glad to learn things in life that way. I hope you will feel alright on the first few weeks being in a foreign place, I am sure with your personality you will be able to settle well. It’s just the goodbye part feeling that you have to overcome for now. Oh well, goodbye Su Ann, have a safe journey, God bless! You’ll be fine =D I’m sure your readers will be here for you wherenever you feel bored…Just leave things back home as they are, and look to the direction of the new great things that are going to happen in your life! =D

gimme a buzz on msn once you get here and if you need any help with anything :) although what i can do from chicago i dunno lah but it’s the thought that counts right right right. i am also available for mindless chatter/homesick rants/wtfs at random americanisms if you need someone to unburden yourself to - though i’m sure you have manymanymanymanymany friends who are more than willing to do the same!

    good luck pinks… it’s a new adventure :)

  • 30. anonymously sky  |  August 24th, 2008 at 7:02 am

Going away from home for a long time could be very daunting - what more, going away from your hometown/country. First few weeks could be hell… where every bit of phonecall/msg/contact with ppl that you know are held on like lifelines in a desolated, unforgiving ocean… but slowly you’ll learn to float on your own and soar into the sky spreading your wings….

You’ll be achiving greater heights, calling the new place “home”….

    Oh! the places you’ll be… ;)

All the best there girl…. never forget your roots.

From anonymous that never really did get to replace you… if you remember what i mean. ta.

  • 31. Mabel  |  August 24th, 2008 at 7:26 am

And hey, you’ll realize, that you’re gonna miss some stuff, but there’s gonna be a whole bunch more new stuff that you never knew before til now, and you’re gonna love it. Become international. the escalator, that escalator accumulated lots of goodbyes from my family to me as well. I was on that escalator 4 years ago, same situation, maybe the same thoughts and feelings as well. But things will surely be fine when you’ve settled down at NYC. Positive thoughts works the best when you are all alone! well, at least it worked on me.

So do take care! and looking forward for the next happy entry from NYC !

  • 61. gosh  |  August 24th, 2008 at 9:55 pm

You guys need a dose of reality. Feeling sad over someone leaving to pursue her dreams in the US? Madness. Whether or not she left makes no difference as you probably never met her anyway. It would be different if you regularly meet up for drinks, or if she’s your grandma. Really bodoland, this.

  • 62. Teddy  |  August 24th, 2008 at 10:00 pm

Have a safe journey, and good luck! Take care in NYC, and most importantly, make the best out of what you have in your life and be happy always :)

“On a clear spring day, a disciple looked at some branches blowing in the wind, and asked, ‘Master, is it the branches that are moving, or the wind?’ Without even looking to where his pupil was pointing, the teacher smiled and said, ‘That which moves is neither the branches nor the wind, it is your heart and mind.’”

    Have fun :)

Hey! Hope you’re starting to settle in. Get t-mobile if you don’t want to pay the ridiculous deposits. The line’s very bad especially in the dorms. Example : I lived next to the elevator last year. I was standing by my window talking on the phone. When I took a few steps closer to my bed, the line got cut off. One place that has the best t-mobile coverage in NY : UN hq(International territory’s have good t-mobile coverage). I’m probably going to switch to at&t family plan with some people if it’s cheaper by an insane amount of money. Join us if you have your ssn by then.

Things should start falling in place by the end of this week. :P Will be back by Saturday night. See ya around!!! :)

P/s : John Jay’s a good, social environment. For good air-conditioning, make some friends with the Furnald residents.

hey ;) welcome to the US! I’m from Maryland which is like only a couple of hours away from NY =] My friend somehow came across your page and gave me to look at it couple of months ago and once in a while i would go back and look at your pictures because you seem to live such an interesting life there ;)!

well…i read that you were wondering about phone plans? well in my opinion, verizon is the best service i think in NY but if u want a sim card then go with AT&T.

Best of luck in your college =]!

  • 102. Chris  |  August 28th, 2008 at 1:23 am

Dun worry it is always always hard in the first time, but time heals everything. Everything will be alright, just need some getting use to. Its part of learning how to be truly independent. The next time you walk down the same escalator, you’ll be thinking of what in flight shows they will have on the plane instead or whether its curry rice or potato with beans or sth. ofc we’ll still miss our family but its easier

  • 103. June  |  August 28th, 2008 at 6:22 am

HELLo Su ANn, Welcome to New York! I was all by myself when I came here with only very little money (say US$200) and no support . My ex decided to leave me after all his lies and promises that make me come here for him, leaving everything in M’sia. I decided to stay eventhough I know no one can support me back home because my family cannot afford. Despite of his abuse and all the odds, I have overcome and survived. I manage to pay my school fees, graduate and now a working professional. Better yet I am happily married, to a sweet and caring husband. It’s 7 years now, it’s like a marathon of life for me. I know how hard it can be. Just be brave, you can make it! New York is an amazing city but it can be very harsh but if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere. If there’s a will there’s a way. Cheers!
