I WILL BE BACK SOON
WORK IS SWALLOWING ME
I’M HAVING AN EXISTENTIAL CRISIS BTW
AND A MAJOR CRISIS, AS IN ACADEMICALLY, NOT PROPORTIONALLY
you know the idea about going to read law in the UK?
increasingly beginning to sound like a good idea.

  • 11. fatcat  |  April 22nd, 2009 at 5:53 am

Bet it’s calculus!!!! ARHHH! A math is so irritating.

  • 12. sue  |  April 22nd, 2009 at 6:27 am

For real? I guess you could do a GDL (Graduate Diploma in Law) at one of the law schools then continue on with either a LPC or BVC depending on whether you want to be a solicitor or barrister. If you become a solicitor and get hired by one of the law firms, they’ll pay for your GDL and LPC including living expenses of around £7000. I am suspending valueble information here wtf but hope your decision is not impulsive.

i have a friend here who did econs and then law (law tuition fees fully paid for, including allowance, and a job after graduating) by a law firm.
p/s: in london, friend is Malaysian.

  • 15. debs  |  April 22nd, 2009 at 8:00 am

Law…not always as easy as people think it is…I have a friend who is doing Law in Nottingham and he went into it very passionate about law. But he still found it quite tough going…eat a cupcake that’s how I avoid my existential crises momentarily. Mmm buttercream.

  • 16. carol  |  April 22nd, 2009 at 9:40 am

GOD some people need to stop getting on pinkpau’s case by pressuring her to blog. yes, we miss her regular posts, yes, she’s updating less now, but dammit let her do what needs to be done first la, haih.

    ohh sounds pretty bad :(

just take your time and solve it slowly :)

  • 18. povege  |  April 22nd, 2009 at 10:29 am

Studying law in UK is quite rewarding. Law is not just a boring memorising subject contrary to general belief.

  • 19. Caffy  |  April 22nd, 2009 at 11:19 am

You’re not coming back to Malaysia after this? I’m a pre-law A-levels student, and from what everyone’s being telling me, to practice law in Malaysia, your degree must either be from Malaysia, UK or at least a Commonwealth country with similar legal systems. And from what I’ve been told, the US law system is vastly different. Correct me if I’m wrong though.
Choose UK if you want to practice in Malaysia =D (oh please do come back our country needs you!)
But ultimately it is up to you – which one do you feel happier choosing?

  • 20. colin  |  April 22nd, 2009 at 11:34 am

Pls dont think for the moment. It is a life changing thing not to mention you would lose a year of your studies in US. Also, i dont think the universities in UK will accept you as a student so late into the year!! september is a new year. just a thought. why dont you just finish your degree in US, then pop over to UK and get a diploma in law and try to enter for a LPC or BVC that way.
Think it through, make up your mind and then think it through again. Escaping from one hell to another hell is the same thing. same sulfur smell…hang in there. you can do anything so long as you put your heart into it. dont ever give up. ciao

  • 21. Voon  |  April 22nd, 2009 at 12:03 pm

  • 24. rachel chin  |  April 22nd, 2009 at 3:54 pm

take it from me, from first hand experience-do NOT, i repeat do NOT go into law!!! *cries*

at least not for a whole 3 years.. you’ll go insane. i went into it really passionately.. and i am about to complete second year, very very burnt out and disliking (okay… sometimes hating) it very very much.

    sigh.

  • 25. CraSH  |  April 22nd, 2009 at 6:08 pm

hmm…. here is a suggestion… go for econs with a minor in math. that way, you will have no issues getting a job in banking or majority of the private sector.
if you still want to go for law.. then like others said, go with the LPC or BVC program in the UK maybe concentrating in business law since you have math and econs as your fundamentals.
besides, you can always take some basic law classes in columbia as electives to try it out. that is the beauty of the US system….
anyway, good luck. i am sure you will figure it out.

  • 26. lishun  |  April 22nd, 2009 at 8:37 pm

yes yes study law and come back and be a POLICY CHANGER! yayyyyyyyyyyy!

but must come back ok. i can’t change this country on my own. hehe.

  • 27. Fu Han Liang  |  April 22nd, 2009 at 8:46 pm

Don’t give up! If you can’t stand it what hope is there for me? Fun comes to die where I’m going and apparently the only thing that goes down on people is their GPA in Chicago.

well, just go where your heart takes you. you’re only Su Ann once. :D

  • 37. alynna  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 7:44 am

    Bonne chance.
Do what you want, not what others expect of you. In the end, I think that’s most important because they’re not you, and they sure as hell don’t walk in your shoes.

  • 38. sieutheng  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 10:12 am

i dun care if u read law or just be a drop out but YES GO TO UK

  • 39. anon  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 12:15 pm

hey su ann, aren’t you like 21 this year?
why does it say up there 19?
haha..sides, i think 22 is a tad bit late for you to be starting to do a law degree in the uk, speacially.
why don’t you continue with math and econs?

  • 40. Caffy  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 12:32 pm

“We can never judge the lives of others, because each person knows only their own pain and renunciation. It’s one thing to feel that you are on the right path, but it’s another to think that yours is the only path.” – Paulo Coelho.

Just do what you think is best. Good luck with that =D

  • 41. foreverjas  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 6:25 pm

good luck in everything! no matter what :)
    u can do it :D

  • 42. elle  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 6:45 pm

It’s a fantastic idea!! I think law is actually quite fun! Stressful yes, but i’d still recommend it :) You’d get really deep into debates like whether they should update the law on abortion or whether should prenups be binding on couples etc. OMG geeky sangat but still, why not law!!!

  • 43. nick  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 7:19 pm

    comp sci!! :)

  • 44. Judy  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 8:43 pm

do law if u r interested on it.. it takes lotz of times and effort to do it.. so make sure u really into it.. if not you gonna regret and suffer the whole duration of the course..

Endless article to be read, endless assignment and exams.. and one more, everyone in holiday but u will be stuck in assignments or exams.

Nevertheless, if u interested, u will have fun with it.. Not all law modules are boring, some are very challenging indeed such as criminal law.. Depends to your own view.

Think properly before going for it. thatz what i can say tho!

  • 45. Jeff from LA  |  April 24th, 2009 at 12:35 am

You should do a double degree in British and US law. There are a few joint-degree programs that allow you to get an LLB from a British university and then come to a US law school to get a JD. One of my friends at USC Law did a joint LLB-JD program where he got an LLB program from the London School of Economics and a JD from USC. I think it only takes 4-5 years total, which is really fast. I’m sure many other schools have a similar relationship.

  • 46. Bonnie  |  April 24th, 2009 at 3:25 am

    Don’t be a quitter. Period.

  • 47. ZeekNotGeek  |  April 24th, 2009 at 4:38 am

hang on there Pau. You’ll be fine in NYC! :)

  • 48. DoopDoo  |  April 24th, 2009 at 5:22 am

columbia >>>>>any law degree in the uk, its much easier to get into a law firm (magic circle) with a degree from columbia and get them to pay for the law conversion course. dont bother if you are gonna try with a uk law degree.

i’ve spent my last summer with 2 law firms in the uk. competition is very very very keen.

  • 49. Adrian C  |  April 24th, 2009 at 8:58 am

Please do not read law. The legal profession in Malaysia SUCKS.

  • 50. danielle  |  April 24th, 2009 at 12:11 pm

Wow. i am reading law in Australia and i think it is the best choice i have ever made. Law is interesting and practical in real life.

  • 51. Matt  |  April 24th, 2009 at 2:11 pm

hang in there! you’re almost done

  • 52. songjun  |  April 24th, 2009 at 5:50 pm

  • 55. Kevin Chan  |  April 25th, 2009 at 11:49 am

Hang on Paus! My exams just ended and I am also going through some stage where the option to be reading law instead of business seems to be appealing somehow. Oh well, hang on and take care!

  • 56. bebe bonito  |  April 26th, 2009 at 1:11 pm

whatever it is,there’ll always be ups n downs, but what is more important how you’re gonna deal with them.no doubt law’s gonna be excruciating hard, but if u think that’s where ur passion lies….go ahead :D

(ps:i am a victim of calculus too :S)

  • 57. Jason  |  April 27th, 2009 at 4:17 am

    GAMBATEH!

  • 58. Hasan  |  April 27th, 2009 at 10:12 am

You could just stay the course and apply to Columbia Law School. That’s a great place to do law. You won’t be able to practice in Malaysia, but why would you want to. Save your soul!

  • 59. Grace  |  April 27th, 2009 at 6:57 pm

mmmm i will clean up the mess after carol is done.

have some bubble tea & sweet potato, maybe a cupcake or two at sweet revenge and all will be well again. i swear that’s how i dealed with my NYU stress. then again, i ended up transferring out so maybe my how-to-stay-put advice isn’t all that great….
