Unfixing Conditions

July 19th, 2009

i am attempting to remove several constructs of my blogging disposition. beginning now:

1. i will write anytime i want, regardless of how brief my message is. like if i want to say, tomorrow is lavender day at work, but i dont have any office-appropriate lavender clothes. should i blatantly flout the (two day old) tradition of color-coding our clothes and wear my Hogwarts shirt to celebrate today’s opening of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince?, i will say it. in one post. without concern of whether people will have anything to respond to it, or if people actually care what i wear to work, or if it — according to some parties — will be the Downfall of My Blog.

2. i refuse to let the use of Twitter take over my blog. nobody blogs anymore these days coz Twitter is making everyone lazy. there is really only so much one can say with 140 characters, and it’s not enough. pinkpau in bite sized pieces is not nearly as fun as long and tumbling rants at quaintly.net. and Twitter is not as cool as everyone claims. more on this another time. plus Plurk is so much better, especially when all your friends are on it.

3. i will remember to set some time apart every now and then to blog proper, but will also remember not to take my blog too seriously. i generally dont take my blog very seriously, but as always, it’s easy to get sucked into that kind of thing.

4. i will not participate in anymore blog politics. i will link whoever i want to link, and blog about whatever i want to blog about, thank you very much.

okay lah i think that’s it. my grumpy mode has been abated by nice cold green tea and the promise of ice cream. but the weekend has come and gone. i think it’s very likely that i will not have an OSIM tomorrow, cos i may be working out of a little internet-less burrow. but let’s see how it goes.

also, i’m thinking of starting a private journal somewhere far away.

  • 13. Cher  |  July 19th, 2009 at 11:30 pm

I believe it is of no necessity to have another blog for your sharing in cyberspace, because I always like the way you look at things, and especially the way you express your thoughts, which beauty your astounding writing skills have revealed. Nonetheless, it is your choice to start another blog else where. I sincerely hope you can let me know the address though. I don’t know you in person, I hope this doesn’t mean much difference to making the blog a totally private one. Because I really love your writing.

I am also supportive with the idea of not thinking about how other people would react to your every post whenever you want to blog about something. If you’ve taken out the precious freedom of expression in blogging, what is there left to appreciate in the blogsphere? I always think occasional randomness in post is refreshing and interesting.

    Cheers :-)

Invite me if you want to go private, Kakak Pau?

  • 15. xiao  |  July 20th, 2009 at 12:44 am

aye to the twitter comment! bloggeth away :)

  • 16. cindy khor  |  July 20th, 2009 at 12:55 am

i do think that’s a good move/choice you are making there about your whole blogging world. caring too much of what people think while blogging could really increase the pressure to write and i just hate that kind of feeling. freedom to blog, is what i think, makes a blogger with good topics.

  • 17. Teddy  |  July 20th, 2009 at 2:26 am

A blog is interesting to read when it’s not just another mirror image of the big pile of stereotypes out there but rather, reflects the unique and genuine opinions/ stories that the blogger wishes to illustrate… so do keep this blog you, yours truly :)

The war between giving in to public demands vs personal fulfillment is always on-going… and there’s no right and wrong. The desired outcome is simply a matter of what the blogger seeks to gain from it… I guess

So, blog in ways that you’re comfortable with and suits what you seek :)

    Good luck

  • 18. MKL  |  July 20th, 2009 at 3:16 am

You said it right and that’s also my idea of blogging. You have to be in charge of your blog and you can do whatever you want. Don’t be influenced by external forces, but by the force within you. I guess when you have many followers, you tend to feel writing for them rather for yourself. Some blogs lose qualities when they become popular. I wish you good luck.

  • 19. Gin  |  July 20th, 2009 at 3:37 am

msg me when ure free T_T i need to beremo to u. sigh

  • 20. stepstep  |  July 20th, 2009 at 7:28 am

  • 21. carol  |  July 20th, 2009 at 8:13 am

limsuann wa eh ka zin tia :(

  • 22. Jenny  |  July 20th, 2009 at 10:32 am

Five years ago, used to blog only posts that made a reader laugh at least once a paragraph. And then gradually, blog posts dwindled. From once in 3 days, to a week, to a month, to 3 months, to finally shutting my blog down.

It’s not worth it, living by such restrictions. You should be allowed to write whatever you want to write. If you want to blog about crap, you should. It’s a reflection of you, and you don’t have to be scared people won’t like it.

  • 23. KY  |  July 20th, 2009 at 10:39 am

twitter is only a sidekick, not a full blogging platform by any means

  • 24. kadens  |  July 20th, 2009 at 10:42 am

so no linking my dear Ringo Cheeserland.com? =(((

  • 25. pinkpau  |  July 20th, 2009 at 11:06 am

we : no when there are limited resources there are politics :P you should know, wannabe economist!

    firdy : ya man

patricia : i have that, i suppose, in the form of my best friends who never judge… but i’m thinking more of a smaller journal that i’ll open to only a handful of people. but thank you so much for the encouragement :)))

tamago : aww i cant believe you just said that :) that’s way too sweet. thank you.

michelle : haha you did not grow up reading pinkskyes!!! i think you read it only in the last year it was around, right? when i was 17.

cloudyrainbows : but i have succumbed to twitter… :P i just wont let it replace my blog

    missfiona : hehe

patchi : hard lah sometimes! cos i dont know who’s reading. when i’m talking about some more personal things or certain topics i feel strongly about, i’d like to have a clear idea about who i’m speaking to. glad you like the osim :)

ljy : thank you for the support! :)

mchllchn : haha just a word! sometimes i feel like doing that. just publishing a big ‘DAMMIT’.

reallybites: if i want to go listed then how? do you think ppl will buy my shares

sheon : you’re such a gossipmonger :P got the email, thank you!!

cher : thank you for your kind words :) if i do start a private journal somewhere, do feel free to drop me an email for the url or password. i like what i have on quaintly so far, but sometimes all the different things i have to cater to are kind of stifling to my writing and stream of thought. no one is forcing me, of course, it’s just that i get very carried away sometimes with what other people think, tell and ask of me.

tan yee hou : definitely, hou yee tan

xiao : eh you never update your twitter wan :P

cindy khor : but it’s easier said than done, yes? :(

teddy : ahh teddy you hit the nail on the head with the statement that it really depends on what the bloggers are getting out of blogging for themselves or for their public. it’s a damn tough balance to strike and i think a lot of bloggers feel the same. but i’m trying to find my footing :)

MKL : i agree that many blogs lose their voice (or at least, it morphs) when they become popular. but i suppose it’s a market forces thing… they start writing what other people want to read, and at the end of the day, if that makes the bloggers happy, then so be it! :) i’m all for happy.

gin : aww what’s wrong :( i’m never on msn anymore though. meet up soon? can pass u your hat also

stepstep : thank you so much :)))

carol : haha i had to ask eng han what that meant. i massage for you kkkk

jenny : i’m trying to tell myself that. thank you muchly for the testimony :)

KY : no i totally agree. but it’s just made ppl a lot lazier or distracted in blogging; myself included.

    kadens : huh?

  • 26. Kevin Chan  |  July 20th, 2009 at 12:35 pm

Wah got blog politics one ar?

  • 27. Voon  |  July 20th, 2009 at 12:40 pm

  • 28. Snow white  |  July 20th, 2009 at 12:52 pm

No more politics blog from Su Ann? Sigh, what a waste!!!!! U know very well, we do support you…..

  • 29. pinkpau  |  July 20th, 2009 at 1:20 pm

kevin chan : you dont know ah :P now not so much already lah. ppl mellowing out

    voon : HAR. WHERE.

snow white : eh eh.. political blogs and blog politics are two very different things :)

  • 30. ShaolinTiger  |  July 20th, 2009 at 1:27 pm

Make it happen LSA, blog for yourself not anyone or anything else.

That’s the way it should be.

If you wanna post one word posts go ahead. You’ll probably still get 50 comments :P

Twitter has it’s place though, it’s a great place for dialogue and information exchange. No one said it was cool though, it’s just another tool in the toolbox if you understand how to harness it.

  • 31. eyeris  |  July 20th, 2009 at 1:55 pm

No link for me? T_T LOL

I tend to use Twitter when I wanna update something fast. Not as a substitute for blogging.

140-characters is too damn restricting for me. There’s a reason why I’m WRITER, not a COPYWRITER. Bah.

  • 32. maysnow  |  July 20th, 2009 at 3:14 pm

awww please don’t pinkpau! please be yourself and rant everything here~ your writtings resonate with me soo much and as Michelle said..you make us feel that’s we’re not alone *sniff*

that’s being said.. (selfish me speaking above).. i know how good it feel to be able to just write…anything..everything..without any considerations and strings attached… recently i started writting again in my own diary and i felt this freedom to express myself so much better than when i was writting on my blog..and even then my blog is not well known at all! haha =p

so…do whatever you desire dear pinkpau..we’ll always love and support you no matter what =)

  • 33. sheon  |  July 20th, 2009 at 4:31 pm

  • 36. Michelle  |  July 21st, 2009 at 10:15 am

Then I can’t say I grew up reading it but I was 15 then. I consider that age a growing up phase.

  • 37. Ping  |  July 21st, 2009 at 10:19 am

ohh..saw your plurk. I admire a person for their personalities and capabilities..whichever side of the divide they’re from. Just somehow think politics is too grey to be all black or white.

  • 40. patricia  |  July 22nd, 2009 at 9:26 am

shaolintiger : ya man, just another tool. am very sien of social media douchebags who keep ranting at me when i say that i think twitter is not as great as ppl hype it up to be.

eyeris : rule no #40 of How To Be A Malaysian Blogger — do not link anyone who links your blogenemy :P take a look around, you will find that it’s true.

maysnow : thank u, ur very kind :) do drop me an email if i ever do go private… i’ll send u my link / pword.
