Rained In
September 12th, 2009
am currently trapped in the glass building at college cos of rain. the downpour is just not letting up — i’ve been in the computer lab for the past 4 hours, idling time away and resisting the call of the bubble tea shop that’s in the same building. i’ve just printed out the first of my Calculus 3 problem sets (yes, i know, Calculus again. what could i possibly be thinking?), and am currently comparing prices of shoe racks online. i dont often take to shopping online cos i like being able to look at my potential purchases — to hold them, compare them with other products side-by-side, to feel them — but i guess this is one of many ways that i’m slowly getting acclimatized to America and their e-commerce ways.
and now i’m trying to convince The Kimonster that we should go watch a romantic comedy (The Ugly Truth!) tonight instead of some boring boy’s flick. it’s a formidable mission and i am sufficiently engaged. i guess being rained-in is kind of fun.
i’m trying my best to blog frequently, but it just seems so impossible. this usually is the best time to blog, before things get hectic and the terrifying tetris blocks of papers/assignments/exams begin falling … but even now there’s so much to think about. i just went to see my advisor yesterday to iron out some administrative stuff that should have been tackled when i first got here. now i’m a year late and scrambling. also, now that i’ve decided to pick up my old major again (after a frightened and jaded semester of dropping it for newer and safer pursuits), i’m a semester behind everyone else and i have to double my pace. ah i can already smell the morning musk of the library reading rooms. the saddest part is that i had to give up intermediate italian classes in place of my major requisites, which pretty much means i don’t get to go to italy for study abroad next year. sigh.
anyway i’ve figured out one of my blogger’s block problems. i cant blog because i keep wanting to blog about certain topics, and some of those topics need a certain mojo. but until i blog about those mojo-requiring issues, i refuse to blog about anything else — which results in a stagnating index of nothingness on quaintly.net. how now brown cow? i should just, like, blog about anything. like what i do in when i get rained in.

I totally get what you feel!! I feel guilty if I don’t blog often. It feels like I’m abandoning it yet I just want to blog when I have the inspiration to without feeling like I’m being rushed to do so…So when that happens, just blog what you feel like and write the ones you want to when the inspiration hits! There’s always a compromise ^^

i’m suffering from a lack of blogging mojo lately as well, but i didn’t want to not post anything at all and, now, i end up with a bunch of brainless posts dominated by photos just to fill the days up. initially, i didn’t want this to happen, but i should’ve known better that it would. :P

good luck in your new sem! may school be extra kind to you this term so you can continue to inspire us (ok, me) with your writing. :) and i didn’t know they had bubble tea all the way over there.

Lezione Italiano, non ancora???? Behh, avevo sperato di praticare Italiano con te. Mio Italiano e molto male. :( Venire a stare con mio in Italia per qualche giorno ;)

please re-consider the italian — while i can’t tell you what you should do, please remember this: employers don’t place *that* much emphasis on your actual major, but they will regard fluency in a foreign language, as well as time spent in a foreign country where that language is spoken, very highly. furthermore, you will not remember much of the stuff you study in your major, but i am sure that you will keep your language skills, and if you have the right foundation, can continue to increase your fluency post-college. there is also an immense sense of satisfaction in being able to speak another language well.
i did language classes all four years in college, and studied abroad in twice! one summer as well as for a semester (two different locations); i am two years out of college now and the best decisions i made at college were language related… my only regret is probably not majoring in languages and not taking up another language!
study abroad was also a fantastic experience — i went to a college not that dissimilar to columbia and was grateful for the time away from the all the stress. instead, i managed to spend time exploring, thinking, and having fun.
although you sound as if you’ve got a good head on your shoulders, so i am sure you know what you’re doing.

Woah! One don’t go to Italy to study. It’s a place for pasta and spaghetti and to binge till one drops! Then again, I’ve never been to Italy… It’s nearby Japan right? Kekeke… ;S
As for the blogger’s block.. We all suffer periodically.. Just have to tahan and it’ll pass~

I love being rained-in too! In fact, any kind of rainy weather with me indoors is great. :D And I’m scrambling too – for my final exams. Sigh! I just don’t seem to feel the sense of urgency. I keep slacking… :(((
23. Jin Rui | September 14th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
rainy weather is nice weather. no? =)
24. pinkpau | September 15th, 2009 at 6:56 am
nyrac : thank u :) especially need that good skin day thing — my dry flaky skin is coming back due to the weather
yao jia : i dont feel guilty as much as i feel frustrated; i’m one of those people who need to write things down otherwise they cant really organize their thoughts. it’s also a cathartic thing — i need to write to feel better. which explains why i get very emotional when i’m too busy, cos i dont have time to make myself feel better :P
kiasu andrew : remember my recommendation. flowers in the attic is the better series :P
jun : being alone
paperplanes : sometimes the photo-laden (i wouldnt call them brainless!) posts are really nice too :) most of us are visuals-inclined! i know some of the people who read my blog are, cos they get annoyed whenever they see a lot of text and write me emails about how i need to put up more photos… haha
junkit : this semester is looking very tough. but hopefully i will be happier than last semester, where i basically lost track of everything and stayed in the library 24/7 to get my GPA back on track. oh and the bubble tea at columbia is the best i’ve ever had :)
bs : cos it’s expensiveeeee (they raised the price) and SO MANY CALORIES
sheon : hehe should i blog about cupcakes? :P
lishun : dont know what to say about HK without missing the place immensely :(
patricia : you will be fine :) i remember the exact date i started cramming (and i mean, REALLY cramming) for SPM — it was sept 16! which is two days away. so if i could do it, you can do it much better :)
chien teng : sometimes that’s hard too
whimsicaljottings : vedo che tu sei a modena. omgggg sono molto geloso!!! com’e? hai acquistato una ferrari ancora? :P
gracea: i wish i had read your comment much earlier :( it’s very inspiring, but it is too late for me to change anything now because my schedule was pretty much built around the fact that i dropped italian as a subject. sigh. i will try my best to do an expedited italian course next semester or over the summer, though. thank you for taking the time to write me some advice :)
ky : find from where!
christock : hahaha what are you trying to say!
j : okay
grinch : haha how’s the finals going
mar : one can study anywhere :)
carol : CANT WAIT
voon : that;s you too :P
peach : i love change :)
fatcat : find a new drive besides urgency. seriously. haha it’s the best advice i can give you
jin rui : agree, but only if i have the peace of mind of actually wanting to be indoors!
25. grinch | September 15th, 2009 at 10:25 am
Haha. Too bad Federer lost to Del Porto. Otherwise it would have been 6 in a row! I like that Kim Clijsters won the women’s singles. She came out of retirement and took time of from being a mom to win a grand slam! Haha. I love the Serena drama… muahaha
