A Barista’s Kinda Girl

i dont know why, but it seems that free dessert just comes my way all the time. not that i’m complaining of course, i am milking this to the very end :D

the latest in my freeloader saga - i ordered an espresso blended coffee at starbucks, but only after asking the barista if there was milk or cream in it. he said no, there’s no milk or cream at all, just coffee and espresso and ice. so okay lah i believe, cos i’m not a barista right. what do i know, right. but when i got my drink, it was so obvious there was milk in it. so i asked him again if there was milk in it, because i sure as hell can taste milk! (of course, all said very sweetly with a confused look on my face) but then he insisted that noooooo, really dont have milk. okay whatever, no milk then no milk lah.

but a few minutes later, he comes up to me looking all worried, and asks if … i’m allergic to milk. hehehehehehhee. and so i reply with Grammy-worthy shock; “yeahhhhhh! i’m lactose intolerant!!! why?!?! is there really milk in this?! but just now you said dont have!!!”

heehee. so guess who got free cake :D starbucks rocky road is the yum.

and guess who got a free venti-sized americano..!!! lactose intolerant mah. i just hope they dont see me pouring milk into this.

right now i’m having a lot of fun playing face-games with this cutie who’s sitting at the next table. soooo adorable. he’s got these orange-coloured booties on, and he keeps crying everytime he finishes the Snyder chips his dad put on a little plate for him. and now he’s got one of those little Starbucks lollipops, and is waving it around in the air.

it’s so fun being a kid. you dont have to study econs or world religion. and you dont have to deal with your mother borrowing your shoes and ruining them. all you do is sit around eating lollipops!

okay lah sometimes i sit around doing nothing but eat lollipops and Snyder chips. i’m still a kid wat.

Frappucino Nights

i’ve escaped to the ever-conducive, cakeandcoffee-stocked refuge of Starbucks to accomplish two things. one, study for upcoming econs test. two, prepare for a philosophy vs science debate that falls on the same day as my econs test.

well. it’s been over 8 hours of sitting here, and i’ve not finished either task. i shall blame this on my prioritising nonabilities - instead of reading blogs and replying emails and designing posters for deadlines further than my test and debate, i should be focusing entirely on said test and debate. and instead of trying to churn out the perfect case for said debate, i should study for said econs test first, because said debate is going to be one of those unintelligent pseudo-intellectual debates that i will, in retrospect, regret spending so much time fretting about.

siiiiigh. me needs another mug of hazelnut hot chocolate and a slice of rocky road.

wah wtf my bro just walked in and tapped me on the shoulder. argh how’d he find me!!! i told no one of my whereabouts!!! is my own brother stalking me??? is he here to buy the last slice of rocky road before i do???

… too late, bro. ALL MINE!

being in Starbucks never fails to yield amusement. last week there was this hip black dude who caught me not-so-discreetly eyeing the bling he was wearing. only a black guy can pull off bling without looking like a right fool! anyway he caught me not-so-discreetly eyeing his necklace, so i was all ‘ohmygod i love your bling, where did you get it?’! some more he totally layaned me when i asked for a picture!

takjadi pic. nvm, his eyes are not the point, the BLING is!

then there was this one time i was singing John Mayer’s Your Body’s A Wonderland a tad too loud. (it’s the damn earphones, they totally screw up your gauge of how loud you’re singing/talking) then suddenly this girl started singing along with me. and then a guy started taking pictures (or a video?? omg surely not) of me on his mobile phone. and the dude behind me tried to strike up a conversation by saying he liked John Mayer too, but i managed to brush him off by cleverly putting my earphones back on. heehee.

today, there are a lot of students around studying. no doubt prepping for their SPM exams which are just around the corner. ahhh brings back memories of my own SPM time. *nods sagely* back then my bum was practically married to the seats at Coffee Bean Ampang Point. and then come the weekend, I’d be pulling all-nighters at Mt Kiara’s Starbucks cos that’s when they open 24 hours. hehe the funniest Starbucks encounter there was this guy from the WWF who approached waimin and i to model for him, after requesting if we would kindly pick him up off the floor in the event that he passes out from caffeine OD. like, whateverrrr, man.

another Mt Kiara Starbucks moment : there was this one night i wrote Martian a poem, likening him to coffee. HAHA. back then we had this little fling thing going on. it’s so weird that we’re in a proper relationship now .. honestly back then i never thought we’d transcend the no-strings thing. one day i gotta blog about our story. how we met, how we got together. better yet, i’ll get him to blog his version too!!!

Starbucks moments aside.. right now i’m trying to tell myself that it is NOT socially apt to look over other Starbucks patrons’ shoulders to see what they’re doing. but i cant help it!!! i soooooo miss high school physics. and high school biology. and that’s what the girls at the table next to me are doing arghghhghg. they’re trying to figure out how to solve the elevator acceleration problem. OI ASK ME LAH i know how to do, i know how to do!!!

=(

one girl from that table has recieved a phone call, and i’m guessing from the way she’s moved away to another table, and from the way her two giggly lipglossed friends are crowding around her trying to listen in, it’s her boyfriend or crush that’s calling. so cute! i oso want.

ahh shitadilly it’s started to rain. coooooold. but a very good excuse for more hot chocolate. and cuddling.

hmmm. *looks around for hot stranger who would not say no to cuddling*

Things You Find In Messy Rooms

‘Clean Room’ has been at the top of my to-do list since forever, so today i finally decided to get off my lazy ass and actually do it.

motivation? i really need to use my desk. i dont know if i’ve ever mentioned this, but there’s a huge pile of stuff on my desk that prohibits me from using it at all. (except of course, to dump more stuff on.) gah, it’s been a whole year since i’ve seen the surface of my desk! i know that because at the veryyyy bottom of the pile are my SPM biology books, still open to the pages i was reading right before i sat for my exams in November last year :P

anyway while cleaning my room, i found a lot of crap i completely forgot i’d kept around. here are some of the more interesting ones -

1. My old diaries
there were three of them from the years 1997 - 2000. i took some time off to read them, and i cant believe how naive i used to be. back then everything was centred around my friends, both offline and online. the littlest things intrigued me, and i would write such looooong entries about them. it’s all quite funny, hehe. 2001 saw me getting a blog, and so the diaries died there.

i also found another diary from the year 2002. this one was a chronicle of my relationship with my then boyfriend. HAHA that was one hell of a dramatic relationship. i wrote down everything - our dates, how we would sneak out to meet each other, issues with the exes, issues with third parties, getting called to the principal’s office for our open relationship in school, his smoking habit and how i hated it, his mother catching us doing stuff she’d rather not have seen… hahaha and lots more. ah, young love! the cuteness of it.

2. Chocopies

from Sri Lanka! remember? they still taste yummy. i just had two! i keep telling myself to refrain from having the other two so i can save em for brekkie tomorrow. argh tempation.

3. RM 100
damn kan cheong, i was throwing out a bunch of folded a4 papers, when i decided to check exactly what papers i was throwing out. so i opened them to find .. RM 100 in between the papers!!!!!! wtf! why do i simply leave money lying around in innocent-looking sheets of a4 paper?! cis stupid me. *stuffs money in pocket*

(yay, got more money to shop)

4. Loveletter and a Photocard

the letter was for my exboyfriend, and i found it in an Isetan bag full of art supplies. i have no idea what it was doing in there! it’s dated June 2004, and was a confession of sorts. i cant remember why i never gave him the letter, cos after skimming the contents it looked like a pretty safe letter to me. hmmm.

the photocard is a pic of me and aforementioned ex, one we took in Singapore on christmas eve 2004. at Bugis Junction, one of my fav places in SG! found the photocard in a bag of trinkets i bought from Singapore, but forgot about.

5. Cosmetics

there was a whole bag of BRAND NEW UNOPENED cosmetics from MAC in this black toiletries bag i never used!!!!! wheeee :D i was completely over the moon when i found the stuff. it’s like getting free cosmetics from my fav brand, even though technically i paid for it :P

6. Exboyfriend’s Yearbook

i found a high school yearbook belonging to my very first ‘boyfriend’, buried under a whole stack of Cleo and Female magazines! i remember how i wheedled at him to let me keep it, and how reluctant he was to part with it, cos the yearbook was from his graduating year. the above pic is his class photo, hehe i’ll give you a prize if you can guess which one he is.

i dont really know if i can call him my boyf because we were never actually official. it’s so funny how when you’re 13 all these official-unofficial things matter :) i had such sweet memories with this guy. we barely talk anymore, but when we do, it’s like we never stopped communicating at all.

7. Cassette

there was this play we staged in the year 2003, my classmates and i :D it was called Snow Dumb, a parody of the timeless classic Snow White. we recorded the entire script on cassette cos we didnt wanna use microphones, and i remember we had a ball of a time! benjamin eating pizza and then fainting, before Darren the Prince Charming came to the rescue. and then … FREDDY CAME ONSTAGE. hahahahaha. omfg.

i would so love to listen to the recording on the cassette but i dont even have a cassette player anymore. damn obsolete lah, these cassette things! i cant believe even in modern 2003 we were using cassettes!

8. Kiddy Pics

i found a few albums of pics from my childhood under a few shoeboxes. the above is a pic of my cousin bro Derek, me, and my cousin sister Eva in front of a big Shangri-La styrofoam castle! this photo is from the year 1991 (check out those lacy socks, yo) - i was 3, derek was 4, eva was 5. now we are 18, 19 and 20. and so many years later, Shangri La is still around- i just went there for dinner the other day! i could have walked on the same spot we were standing in 15 years ago! so surreal.

and 15 years since the above photo was taken, we now look like this -

arent my cousins hot? *wiggles eyebrows*

the whole time i was cleaning up and finding all these forgotten treasures, i wished so much that there was someone with me. someone special whom i could show all this stuff, someone whom i could share with all the stories and memories behind the things i found.

ahh. but Martian is in Mars.
